Last year, Josh Berwanger of The Anniversary launched his funky new band Gemini Parks, and now they’ve released their debut album Mom, Why is everyones a Hoe?.
“The songwriting focus on this album was to take influences of everything I listen to and blend those styles together to find as many sounds as possible, and then make them my own,” Berwanger says. “If I’m roaming or chilling around the house listening to albums it can go from Rick James, Marijata to Marc Bolan, Sister Sledge and something like ‘Up All Night’ kinda comes out from that. I hope the listener finds the album to play like a musical journey with it’s different styles and sounds.”
We’re now premiering the video for “Flat Champagne,” and here’s what Josh says about this nostalgia-inducing clip: “I have a collection of tube TVs (and also a collection of laserdiscs.) I decided to stack all the TVs I could carry by myself and then have different videos I’ve shot play on each of them while also having a gorilla pissed off he has to sit there and watch it. I had two ‘prop’ champagne bottles that aren’t supposed to hurt when broken on you. I’m pretty sure the second one wasn’t a prop, it hurt like hell and soon after I noticed blood dripping down my face.” Check it out below.
Gemini Parks play a record release show on 10/28 at Replay Lounge in Lawrence, KS with Heat Seger, Jackoffs, Pale Tongue; and they also play an MF DOOM tribute show the next night at Record Bar in Kansas City, MO with Steddy P, Vermin the Villain, The Delazers, Static Soul, FK MENACE, Heavy Gantt, and DJ Skeme.
