Flying Lotus is back with a new single, “Garmonbozia,” just ahead of his festival appearance at London’s All Points East this weekend. David Lynch fans will recognize the title from Twin Peaks lore; “Garmonbozia” is a creamed corn-looking sludge that is the physical embodiment of pain and sorrow that spirit residents of the Black Lodge eat. The whole song is about Twin Peaks: “Baby, I’ve been stuck in this room with you,” he sings over a dark, creepy, synthy beat. “In the Red Room you’ve lost your way home… Is it the future or past, tomorrow / I give you all my pain and sorrow.”
Is there more to come? In another Twin Peaks reference, Flying Lotus only says, “It is happening again.”
You may remember Flying Lotus and David Lynch collaborated on 2019 single “Fire is Coming” and FlyLo played the NYC edition of Lynch’s Festival of Disruption in 2018.
