Father John Misty‘s new double album Pure Comedy isn’t out until April, but alter ego Josh Tillman has not been shy about sharing songs from it. He released the six-minute title track, and “Two Wildly Different Perspectives” and has recently shared two more songs. “Ballad of the Dying Man” looks at a man’s final thoughts right before he leaves this mortal coil and, like the other songs we’ve heard off the record, what humor is found in his lyrics here is pitch black. FJM was also just on Lauren Laverne’s show on BBC 6 Music, where he played the 13-minute “Leaving LA” which he describes as the centerpiece to the album. “I spent a good three years on this song,” Tillman told Laverne. “It had 40-some verses, it was a challenge to get it down, to just figure out what I was trying to say.” As the title suggests, it deals with the things that drive some people out of Los Angeles.
