Surprise! Melbourne punk greats Eddy Current Suppression Ring are back, having just dropped their first album in seven years on an unsuspecting public. It’s titled In Light Of Recent Events and finds them pretty much where we left them in 2019: raw, intense and highly strung.
According to their label, the album grew out of “private weekly jam sessions throughout 2025,” as well as live performances played under aliases that included Jimmy and the Ringtones and Top Hats. The album includes the VU-inspired “Swimmin’ Hole” and “Hard To Be Moved,” which were released quietly on YouTube in the last year, plus nine other rippers.
