Two Aussie legends — Ed Kuepper (The Saints, The Laughing Clowns) and Jim White (Dirty Three) — are teaming up for After the Flood, which will be out March 21 via 12XU. The album began when they decided to do a few Australian shows together, with Ed reinterpreting songs from throughout his career with White’s unique drumming style. That turned into making a record. “We took what we’d been doing live and brought it into the studio,” Ed says. “It was important that we captured the immediacy of what we’d been doing, that it wasn’t labored over. Everything was laid down live.”
There are new versions of The Saints’ “Swing for the Crime,” Laughing Clowns’ “The Crying Dance”, “The Year Of The Bloated Goat” and “Collapse Board,” and Kuepper solo material. You can listen to “The Crying Dance” below.
Ed and fellow original Saints member Ivor Hay will also play early Saints material on tour this fall with a band that features Mark Arm (Mudhoney), Mick Harvey (Birthday Party, Bad Seeds) and Peter Oxley (Sunnyboys). The NYC show is at Music Hall of Williamsburg on 11/14.
