Dinosaur Jr brought out Marissa Paternoster, Ryley Walker & more at Ni

Dinosaur Jr. played the penultimate show of their seven-night run at Music Hall of Williamsburg on Thursday night. This has been a celebration of their 1993 album Where You Been, but no small part of the excitement comes when they’ve finished playing the album in full and start bringing out the surprise guests. Thursday had a few, including Marissa Paternoster of Screaming Females (who just announced they are calling it quits), to let it rip on “Freak Scene,” which closed out the main set.

A few songs earlier, Riley Walker joined the band on rhythm guitar for “Kracked” and “The Lung.” Ryley wrote after, “I used to sit in a room w my friends doing bong rips of Mexican brick listening to you’re living all over me I cannot believe it boys we made it.”

There were more guests, too: they brought out Sunburned Hand of the Man drummer and Dinosaur Jr. tour manager Molo as the first guest of the night to play on “The Wagon,” and then Foetus’ JG Thirlwell was on hand for covers of The Stooges’ “No Fun” and “TV Eye.”

The show’s encore also got a guest for the first time this run, when after “Feel the Pain” and “Just Like Heaven,” J Mascis welcomed his old Deep Wound bandmate Scott Helland to the stage for their song “Training Ground.”
