DIIV released their great fourth album, Frog in Boiling Water, in May, and you can stream it below. As the year winds down, we’ve been asking artists about their favorite music of 2024, and all four members of DIIV told us about a few of their favorite albums. Read their lists and commentary below.

Andrew Bailey:
Tyler the Creator- CHROMAKOPIA
Tyler is prob the best artist in the country right now, each album roll out is like a master class in universe building, and the latest character resonates w me but I don’t know why.
Vince Staples- Dark Times
Vince is just smarter than everyone, I always have a renewed sense of despair with the world whenever he drops an album, and since this album’s theme is specifically that, it really hit for me.
Ben Newman:
Total Blue – Total Blue
A kind of super group of left field musicians, this album exists in a space between new age, ambient, and fusion, but manages to execute perfectly without coming off as cheesy.
Jan Jelinek – Social Engineering
A kind of concept album by one of my favorite producers made from spam/scam emails and messages. Very strange and unsettling but addictive.
Jack J – Blue Desert
Really fun album to listen to, like some lost classic from the 80s, but still sounds fresh.
Colin Caulfield:
Chanel Beads – Your Day Will Come
Probably the album I’ve listened all the way through the most this year. I love how aggressive the vocals get at times against the dreamy, dirty metropolis vibes. Been missing walking around New York lately and this music takes me there. Really glad I found this band.
Spirit of the Beehive – YOU’LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING
When I first listened to this album I got about halfway and thought it ended. It felt like I’d heard at least an album’s worth of great ideas and songs. To me they remain one of the most underrated bands right now.
MJ Lenderman – Manning Fireworks
So many people have this high on their lists and imo it’s very deserved. Normally the Americana thing isn’t my go to but this album just flies by and “Wristwatch” gets me on a level I can’t really explain. I was walking around Santiago months ago feeling the weight of the world and listened to that song 15 times in a row – for some reason it made everything seem beautiful.
Cole Smith:
Djrum- Meaning’s Edge EP
Pristine-sounding masterpiece of electronic music production and rhythmic/textural sophistication.
Fontaines D.C. – Romance
A record that in my mind will forever cement this band as a modern day ‘important’ rock band. Instant classic, impressive career arc, love seeing the good guys win.
