Descendents have been in the air lately. Guitarist Stephen Egerton popped up at Riot Fest this past weekend to play “Hope” with both blink-182 and Hanson, and today the band and Org Music are continuing their reissue campaign with the announcement of a reissue of 1985’s I Don’t Want To Grow Up, timed with the album’s 40th anniversary.

If you need a quick primer on I Don’t Want To Grow Up, it followed the hiatus that Descendents went on after Milo Goes to College came out, Milo really did go to college, and drummer Black Stevenson joined Black Flag. When they regrouped, they had new guitarist Ray Cooper in place of co-founder Frank Navetta, and they ignored the direction that the bigger hardcore bands of the era (like Black Flag) had taken the genre in, instead opting for more of the catchy, irreverent punk of Milo Goes to College. That album helped invent the sound of so much of the pop punk genre as we know it, but I Don’t Want To Grow Up helped establish it as something that could really have the longevity that it’s gone on to have.
I Don’t Want To Grow Up has also gotten a bit of a boost in more recent years after Drain covered its song “Good Good Things” on their 2023 sophomore album Living Proof. With that song and other fan favorites like “Silly Girl,” and the title track, I Don’t Want To Grow Up is loaded.
