Deafheaven didn’t release anything new this year, but they did celebrate the 10th anniversary of their iconic 2013 album Sunbather with a remixed, remastered reissue and they’re about to wrap up a tour playing the album in full with support from Touché Amoré. We just caught the remarkable NYC stop (pics and review), and if one of the remaining dates comes near you, we highly recommend it.
With the year coming to a close, the band have made us a list of their favorite albums of 2023, which ranges from heavy stuff like Portrayal of Guilt and Lamp of Murmuur to shoegaze legends Slowdive to free jazz group Irreversible Entanglements to rapper/producer/curator Westside Gunn to experimental electronic artist Loraine James to ambient harpist Mary Lattimore and more. Needless to say, it’s very musically diverse, and there’s a lot of cool stuff on there. Here’s the full list:
