Emily Cross is back with her first Cross Record album in six years. It’s titled Crush Me and will be out March 21 via Ba Da Bing Records. “I thought of it later and it dawned on me that ‘Crush Me’ perfectly embodied the record,” says Cross of the album title. “Yes, the weight of a body laying limply atop yours, or the tight squeeze of a hug, can be pleasant. Go too far, and you’re in the hands of a cruel, adolescent god.”
The album was produced by Theo Karon and began with a two-week recording session in Germany and finished over many months while pregnant and working as a death doula. It was nearly abandoned but with the encouragement of Ben Goldberg from Ba Da Bing, she finished the album, with Seth Manchester mixing and mastering it.
The first single from the album is the gorgeous, spacious “Charred Grass” and you can watch the video below.
