We’ve been asking artists about their favorite albums of 2023, and Cloud Nothings leader Dylan Baldi took a different approach by making us a list of his 10 favorite albums and songs that he listened to for the first time this year. It ranges from Joey Ramone to Don McLean to Lynyrd Skynyrd to Owl City to music from Donkey Kong, and judging by his commentary, he’s being at least a little tongue-in-cheek. Cloud Nothings are on tour now supporting The Menzingers, and they recently signed to Pure Noise and released the great new single “Final Summer.” Dylan also recently put out an instrumental solo EP to raise money for the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF).

Dylan Baldi’s Top 10 Records I Listened To for the First Time This Year
1. Joey Ramone – Don’t Worry About Me
It’s nice that Joey was around this planet long enough to sing the words “What’s happening with AOL? What’s happening with Yahoo?”
2. Leah Kate – Super Over (tracks 6,7, and 8)
The other songs are alright too but those three tracks are legit, my favorite pop jams of the year
3. Don McLean – Addicted to Black
This record is a harsh listen but the song “Addicted to Black” is important
4. Lynyrd Skynyrd – Nothing Comes Easy 1991-2012
Listened to this whole album on a long run and really thought a lot about America…
5. Various Artists – Saturno 2000
This is legitimately good music and is ideal listening in pretty much any situation
6. Young Thug x Elton John – “High”
This was what we played to kick off every gig in Europe this summer, very good record
7. Donkey Kong – “Snakey Chantey”
After a lot of listens this year I realized this is what my dog hears in her head all the time
8. Owl City – “Under the Circus Lights”
Just naming songs now and not albums, but this is some truly twisted music that I’ll never be able to unhear
9. Chris LeDoux – “This Cowboy’s Hat”
Would love to be in a bar and watch the interaction Chris describes here, not sure how it took me until 2023 to hear this fascinating tune
10. Dan Oxenberg & Bear Galvin – Late Superimpositions
Closing this list out with a genuinely good album, beautiful quiet sad Western Mass stuff from a member of Supreme Dicks and Bear Galvin
