Back in October, Cloakroom signed to Closed Casket Activities, released the new single “Unbelonging,” and confirmed that a new album would be coming in 2025. Today, that album has been announced. It’s called Last Leg of the Human Table, and CCA’s announcement says that if Cloakroom’s 2022 album Dissolution Wave “was a space western following an asteroid miner protagonist, Last Leg brings the observer back to Earth where most things are not as they’re cracked up to be.” It comes out on February 28 (pre-order).
The album was recorded with frequent collaborator Zac Montez across three days at Chicago’s Electrical Audio in December of 2023 ahead of a few Midwest end-of-year gigs. They apparently originally set out to write a four-song EP, but the sessions were so fruitful that it turned into a full-length album. It includes samples of the Detroit mutant disco band Was (Not Was) and a NASA recording of the humming of Saturn’s rings.
After showing off a more upbeat side on “Unbelonging,” which the band themselves described as “Cloakroom meets Psychedelic Furs,” they now release new single “Bad Larry,” a slower, hazy song with a hint of alt-country, done in a way that sounds unmistakably like Cloakroom.
