The long-in-the-works documentary Butthole Surfers: The Hole Truth and Nothing Butt had its West Coast premiere on Tuesday night at LA’s Egyptian Theatre, as part of Beyond Fest. As Stereogum points out, the whole band was in attendance and after the screening it turned into an unannounced Butthole Surfers performance.
This was Butthole Surfers’ first live performance in eight years, and was all of three songs — “Cherub,” “The Colored FBI Guy,” and “The Shah Sleeps In Lee Harvey’s Grave” — but Gibby Haynes, Paul Leary, Jeff Pinkus, and King Coffey were as disorientingly chaotic and noisy as they’re known to be.
