NC-based singer-songwriter Anjimile announced a new album, You’re Free to Go, due out March 13 via 4AD. It’s the follow-up to 2023’s very good The King, and it was produced by Brad Cook, with contributions from Hippo Campus guitarist Nathan Stocker, Bon Iver drummer Matt McCaughan, and Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam. “The past two years have been a deeply transitional point in my life,” he says. The first single is “Like You Really Mean It,” which Anjimile says was “originally intended as something of a wedding present for my best friend, who got married a few years back.” He adds, “I wrote this to make my girlfriend want to give me a kiss. We live about an hour apart, and I was just by myself thinking about her. Thinking about wanting a kiss. What could I do to get a kiss from my sweetheart? Write a song about it!
