Air are back in action, touring the globe this year playing their debut Moon Safari in full, and they’ve just released their first new music since the 2014 soundtrack Music for Museum. It comes in the form of a collaboration with American singer Remy Bond titled “Summer Song.” She co-wrote it with Jean-Benoît Dunckel, and he and Nicolas Godin both play on it. “Summer Song” was produced by Jules Apollinaire (Suki Waterhouse).
“It’s very much an American song lyrically, reminiscing on the essence of the late 60s and early 70s,” says Remy, a former child actress and Top Chef Junior contestant. “I have endless love for Sharon Tate & the American sweethearts of the time, but I didn’t want it to be so super apple pie, so I reached out to AIR, which bought in rich new elements and sounds, as well as my British producers, who really brought a seasoned perspective to the project.”
You can definitely feel Air’s touch on “Summer Song” (which also owes more than a little to Lana Del Rey) and the video was directed by 16-year-old Jagger Blue who is Punky Brewster star Soleil Moon Frye’s daughter.
Air’s Moon Safari tour hits NYC at Beacon Theatre on October 21 & 22.
