Reissue-oriented indie label Numero Group has been mining the ’90s a lot recently and the latest in their archival series is on DC-area indie rock band Tsunami. Its a 5xLP box set titled Loud Is As and will be out November 8.
Led by Jenny Toomey and Kristin Thomson, who ran influential ’90s indie label Simple Machines (and famously wrote a guide on how to start your own label), Tsunami were together from 1990 though 2003, minus a couple years around the start of the millenium. Loud Is As includes: the 4-track demos released as Cow Arcade (1991); remastered versions of the band’s three Simple Machines albums, Deep End (1993), The Heart’s Tremolo (1994), and A Brilliant Mistake (1997); and all of their singles, b-sides, and compilation tracks.
The box set’s artwork was designed by Farbod Kokabi and Emily Sneddon and includes a 31-page booklet featuring rare photos, flyers, and ephemera sourced by the band. There’s also an oral history of Tsunami, edited by Joe Gross, and including Toomey and Thomson, plus band members Amy Domingues, Luther Gray, Bob Massey, Rob Christiansen, and Franklin Bruno, plus essays and more.
