9 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

SHIT ROBOT – “NO CIGAR” + ADRIAN SHERWOOD DUB

Longtime DFA artist Shit Robot (Marcus Lambkin) teamed up with Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Al Doyle for this new single that owes just a smidge to The Normal’s “Warm Leatherette” but with more groove and less subzero teutonic-ness. There’s also a killer dub version by legend Adrian Sherwood.

AVERY TUCKER – “LIKE I’M YOUNG”

Avery Tucker, formerly of Girlpool, has announced his debut solo album, Paw, due out on October 10 via Sunkiss. He’s shared “Like I’m Young,” which he calls “probably one of the most emotionally raw songs I’ve ever written,” adding, “There are lines in the song I remember writing and thinking ‘I won’t keep this in.’ I decided to take this song to the edge of myself at the time, and whenever I play the song live I walk alongside that cliff within me and feel the height.”

GULP (SUPER FURRY ANIMALS OFFSHOOT) – “WILDFLOWER”

GULP, the band featuring Super Furry Animals’ Guto Pryce and his partner Lindsey Leven, have shared a new single from their upcoming album Beneath Strawberry Moons. “The wide sky where we live can be awe inspiring at times. This song is about growth, with a nod to motherhood and our own little wildflower. Tiny, yet somehow reaching the infinite sky.”

AUTOMATIC – “MERCURY”

There’s a warmth to “Mercury” that you may not associate with coldwave loving LA trio Automatic. “Mercury” got a groovy synth bass and nice use of the breakbeat from Billy Preston’s “Uptight.” New album Is It Now? is out September 26.

STREET SECTS – “THE GLASS SHITHOUSE” / STREET SEX – “PERPETUITY”

Austin’s Street Sects are releasing two albums on August 15: a noisy punk one as Street Sects and another that is more danceable under the name Street Sex. Here’s two more caustic appetizers.

FAT DOG – “PRAY TO THAT”

UK post-punks Fat Dog start their EU tour on Thursday and just ahead of that have shared this new dance-punk banger.

PYNCH – “POST-PUNK / NEW WAVE”

The first single from London band Pynch’s second album is a cheeky trip through British indie guitar music of the last 35 years.
