So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
PANOPTICON – “THIS MORTAL COIL IS RUSTED” & “THE WHITE MOUNTAIN VIEW”
Panopticon have announced a folk album called Laurentian Blue and a black metal album called Songs Of Hiraeth, both due out August 15 via Birdrune Recordings. Here’s “This Mortal Coil Is Rusted” from the former and “The White Mountain View” from the latter.

JEHNNY BETH (EX-SAVAGES) – “OBSESSION”
Here’s a second single from former Savages singer Jehnny Beth’s upcoming solo album. ‘Obsession” has a dark, laid back, jazzy groove and is mostly instrumental. Nicely chill.

ALISON GOLDFRAPP – “SOUND & LIGHT”
Alison Goldfrapp says her new single “Sound & Light” is about “the excitement of an open vista and wanting to embrace a new feeling of emotional freedom.” New album Flux is out August 15.

HO99O9 – “UPSIDE DOWN”
The genre-crossing rap/punk/metal/etc duo Ho99o9 have announced a new album, Tomorrow We Escape, due out on September 9. The first taste is “Upside Down,” which might take you right back to the nu metal era.

MODERN LIFE IS WAR – “JOHNNY GONE”
Melodic hardcore vets Modern Life Is War announced their first album in 12 years, Life On The Moon, along with lead single “Johnny Gone.” Read more here and pre-order our exclusive vinyl variant.

JER – “THE WAY YOU TUNE IT OUT”
Prolific ska-punk musician (and Skatune Network leader) Jeremy Hunter has announced a new JER album, Death of the Heart. Read more about lead single “The Way You Tune It Out” here.

BILLIE JOE ARMSTRONG – “I GET AROUND” (THE BEACH BOYS COVER)
Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong paid tribute to Brian Wilson by sharing a previously-unreleased cover of “I Get Around,” which he calls “one of my all time favorite songs ever.” Read more here.
