So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
FUCKED UP – “BEING ANNOYING”
Fucked Up do a lot of far-out experimental stuff and melodic power pop stuff these days, but they can also still churn out nasty hardcore rippers. One of those, “Being Annoying,” was released as a 7″ last year and today it’s available to stream. It’s one song, but it’s technically broken up into two songs, “Being” and “Annoying,” the latter of which is six seconds long.

LOWER AUTOMATION – “LIFE INSURANCE”
Post-hardcore band Lower Automation will release new EP Welcome to My Deathbed on May 20 via Zegema Beach Records, and here’s the noisy lead single “Life Insurance.”

LILLIE WEST – “HOLYHOLYHOLY”
Lala Lala’s Lillie West has a new instrumental album on the way, if i were a real man i would be able to break the neck of a suffering bird, due out this Friday (4/5) via Hardly Art. It’s her first release under her own name, and the first single is “holyholyholy,” which she says is “is the first instrumental track I made. There are things going on beyond our control, bigger than we could ever comprehend. Magic is everywhere. I’m just trying to express that.”

THE DRUMS – “THE IMPOSSIBLE”
The Drums are releasing a Deluxe Edition of their 2023 album Jonny this Friday which adds an additional seven tracks — one of those you can listen to now. “I wrote “The Impossible” very quickly, over the course of a few hours, music and all; it wanted to be here with me,” says Jonny Pierce. “It’s a curious time for me to write a song about emotional devastation and unfulfilled promises, as I am currently reveling in a romance that feels fulfilling and meaningful and full of integrity. It is as if the more peaceful and nested I am, the more worried that part of me becomes. I can only assume that the survivors-brain I forged in childhood wrote this song with me. It seems to be working overtime trying to protect me from emotional shipwreck in the future. Wouldn’t it be lovely just to enjoy love while it’s here!?”

FANCY GAP (EX LOVE LANGUAGE) – “HOW TO DANCE”
Fancy Gap is the new project from The Love Language’s Stuart McLamb and songwriter/producer Charles Crossingham and this is their debut single. “‘How To Dance’ was one of the first songs Charles and I wrote together,” says Stuart. “We sat down and mapped out about 90% of it in about 30 minutes—lyrics, arrangement, and all. The vocal, guitars, and bass were all pretty much first takes. Charles helped finesse the arrangement and had the great idea to get Rami and Will for the track, who really made the whole thing feel alive,” explains McLamb. “A lot of people ask, ‘how did you get a Foo Fighter on your track??’ Legend has it that Charles worked at a guitar shop many years ago and Rami came in while on tour with the Wallflowers. Charles ended up jamming with him, and told him ‘there will be a day where I have a record worthy of you playing on it and I’m gonna hit you up.’ Sure enough, Rami kept his word. We like to joke that he’s in the band and he graciously plays along. We connected with Will while down in Muscle Shoals finishing the song with Craig Alvin. No exaggeration, his outro is one of our favorite guitar solos of all time.”

HAZEL ENGLISH – “JESSE” Ft. DAY WAVE
Hazel English and Day Wave’s Jackson Phillips have been releasing singles together, and here’s another one, the breezy, dreamy “Jesse.”

CINDY LEE – ‘DIAMOND JUBILEE’
Cindy Lee, aka former Women singer/guitarist Patrick Flegel, had previously announced a new triple album that was coming out in April, but that has now been renamed Diamond Jubilee and is out now in digital form. The Cindy Lee website lists it as a 2-CD release (even though it’s download only as CD-quality WAV files) and it’s a little unclear whether songs were shaved off in the process or this is the whole thing that was originally announced as Darling of the Diskotheque.
