So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
GREAT GRANDPA – “NEVER REST”
Great Grandpa’s anticipated new album Patience, Moonbeam arrives this Friday, and they’ve shared a final advance single, “Never Rest.” “I think we all resonate with extremes and the contrast present in our daily lives and try to express that through our song’s journeys,” Pat Goodwin says. “A truffle from Amsterdam. An odyssey across Southern Denmark on bicycle. How do you become a parent? How do you make something for your child? I’ve always loved trying to incorporate uncommon modes into our music, and felt the drone/Lydian elements brought a tension and spiritual quality to this song of transformation. The wonderful Jeremiah Moon contributed the beautiful syrupy cello parts that sold the teetering sea sickness and psychedelia of the journey. George Martin utilized these drooping glissando string moves to such fantastic effect in much of the Beatles’ more spiritual/psychedelic moments and this proved to be our North Star as we worked on the arrangement.”

AMY MILLAN – “MAKE WAY FOR WAVES”
Stars’ Amy Millan is releasing her first solo album since 2009, I Went to Find You, in May, and she’s shared another track from it, the lush “Make way for waves.” “This song has a very special place in my heart,” she says. “It’s the first song Jay and I collaborated on and was initially titled ‘gentle beginnings.’ It is the song that launched our relationship and the making of this album. The first verse was an old Stars demo sitting in a hard drive cemetery. I never forgot it and my attachment to the sentiment of the verse lyrics. I sent what I had to Jay and told him it needed a chorus and obviously a second verse. A few weeks later, he sent the song back completed and with this punch in the gut chorus that made me fall out of my chair. We were off. Lyrically I was seeking to articulate how difficult patches in life can influence you to blow it all up or throw in the towel. I was clinging to the idea that with some patience and reflection maybe calmer waters eventually return like the cycle of the moon. Mourning time passing is a right of passage, and the forlorn can make a beautiful hook. Trying not to let fear find a home in my heart.”

FOOLS GAME – “THE ITCH”
Pennsylvania metallic hardcore band Fools Game will follow up their early EPs with their first full-length, Something For The Pain, due April 18 via Triple B. Here’s the ass-kicking lead single.

CASS MCCOMBS – “PRIESTESS”
Cass McCombs and his band were on NPR’s Tiny Desk today and their set included groovy new song “Priestess.” The studio version of that is out today as well.

THE DARKNESS – “HOT ON MY TAIL”
The Darkness, whose new album Dreams on Toast is out this week, are known for their innuendo-laden lyrics (among other things). But we’ve never gotten a song like this before, a country song about…well you can watch the lyric video and figure out what it’s about.

VIAGRA BOYS – “THE BOG BODY”
The video for Viagra Boys’ new single is zombie-themed.

THE BUG CLUB – “JEALOUS BOY”
It’s the first single from The Bug Club’s upcoming fourth album.
