7 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

HORSEGIRL – “JULIE”

Horsegirl have shared a second single from their upcoming second album which was produced by Cate Le Bon. Powered by a lonely synth line, “Julie” is lovely stuff and comes with an animated video by Maria Michurina.

EMILE MOSSERI & JULIANNA BARWICK – “SNOWPOOL”

Emile Mosseri and Julianna Barwick are backed by Hand Habits’ Meg Duffy, Dougie Stu, and Kosta Galanopolous on their gorgeous new holiday track. “I met Julianna a few years back through our friend Mary Lattimore,” Emile says. “We got together and started hanging and jamming and recording music together. We’ve done a few improvisational shows at Zebulon together here in LA and jammed a bunch at my studio. Snowpool was this beautiful melody that Julianna started singing that I was drawn to and I wrote chords underneath it and arranged it for a choir. We performed it 2 years ago with a 32 piece choir at a holiday show here in LA. We recently re-recorded it and wanted to release it for the holidays. Julianna said that the song reminded her of snow falling in a pool at night, the name and the song both feel very festive and we wanted to create something in the tradition of more melancholic Christmas music, i.e. Vince Guaraldi, Lennon’s ‘Happy Christmas’ and some of those classic heartbreaking hymnals.”

LOTS OF HANDS – “MASQUERADE”

UK band lots of hands hail from Leeds which is also home to The Mekons and The Sisters of Mercy. This band sound like neither of those groups, making tranquil folk rock with some lightly psychedelic touches. New album into a pretty room will be out January 17 via Fire Talk and “masquerade” is a lovely appetizer.

PARADIME – “SO LONG”

Long-running underground Detroit rapper Paradime has shared a new track via Mello Music Group.

DAMON LOCKS – “CLICK”

Chicago jazz bandleader Damon Locks has announced a new album, List of Demands, due 1/31 via International Anthem, and first single “Click” is here. Read more here.

SUPERHEAVEN – “NUMB TO WHAT IS REAL”

After making a gradual return to the stage following a hiatus, grungegaze trailblazers Superheaven are now in the midst of a full-fledged comeback. They have a new album coming in 2025 (details TBA), and they’ve just shared their second new song in 9 years, “Numb To What Is Real.” Read more here.

THE DARKNESS – “I HATE MYSELF”

Justin Hawkins calls this new Darkness single “a joyous, raucous celebration of self-loathing” and that pretty much nails it.
