So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
YOLA – “FUTURE ENEMIES”
Yola is back with her first new music in three years, “Future Enemies.” It’s the first single off her new EP, My Way, due out November 15 via S-Curve Records. “There is a moment when you realise you’re not going to get on with someone,” she says. “They haven’t noticed yet, so you have a unique opportunity to disappear from their lives before they ever realise you were destined to be enemies. It’s a luxury to not have an endless supply of negative memories about someone cause you never made them. ‘Why don’t we just not!’ I choose to save my time for situations, spaces and people that have no ticking timer of inevitable doom, because they don’t see me or centre a reality that does not serve me or my wellbeing. Of course when you’re a woman, culturally black (as well as physically black), dark skinned (and feminine in energy), plus size (and wilfully main character in energy), from a whole different continent and living in the west- let’s say you’re going to have to be both vigilant and choosy in life, in love in work. Oh and if you also want to be real, girl!!”

CAROLINE SAYS – “ROSES”
“This is a song of longing and lament,” Caroline Sallee says of this new single from her upcoming third album as Caroline Says. “Someone pressured to win in whatever race they think they’re on facing the sting of unmet expectations.”

HOT MULLIGAN – “FLY MOVE (THE WHOLE TIME)”
Emo/pop punk greats Hot Mulligan are playing Riot Fest this weekend, they announced two Midwest holiday shows this week with an amazing lineup, and now they’ve shared a new single. Combined with their two previous singles, it makes up the Warmer Weather EP, and it’s another instantly-great one.

SPUN OUT (EX NE-HI) – “PARANOIA”
Spun Out, the Chicago band than spun out of NE-HI, have announced new album Dream Noise that will be out October 25 Shuga Records. “Lyrically, I was trying to convey how dreams overlap into real life and vice versa,” says Joshua Wells of the album’s new single. “I got taken out by a rip tide in the Pacific a few years back and that feeling of trying to remain calm physically while not being in control of your surroundings definitely informed the psychology of the tune, as well as the twists and turns of the production style.”

GLOK (RIDE’S ANDY BELL) & TIMOTHY CLERKIN – “EMPYREAN”
Ride’s Andy Bell is back with a new album from his electronic alter ego GLOK. Alliance is true to its title as it has Bell collaborating with Amsterdam-based producer and DJ Timothy Clerkin, who had done a GLOK remix back in 2019. “We didn’t discuss much in the way of direction,” says Andy. “I was having quite a creative spell at the time, to me it felt like making music was keeping me sane but when I think back, it was actually making me more insane, just in a different way.”

WILLIE NELSON – “DO YOU REALIZE??” (THE FLAMING LIPS COVER)
