So many artists, so many songs, so little time. ED ASKEW – “GRAY AIR-O-PLANE” (FEAT. SHARON VAN ETTEN)
Ed Askew died back in January 2025 and his final, posthumous album has been announced: The Final Painting will be out July 31 via Drag City. The album features contributions from Eve Searls, Canaan Faulkner, Bill Callahan, William Tyler, and more, plus Sharon Van Etten who provides backing vocals on first single ‘Gray Air-o-Plane.”

LOWERTOWN – “MICE PROTECTION”
Lowertown’s new album Ugly Duckling Union arrives this Friday, and ahead of that they’ve shared a final advance single, “Mice Protection.” “The first song written for Ugly Duckling Union, the song starts with an exhale,” they say. “After 2 years of extensive touring and emotional turmoil moving out of our childhoods houses in Atlanta, we had to reevaluate our relationship within music and the band. Mice protection was the first time back in a basement studio and the first time we realized we knew the direction for the new album. “We called the song ‘Mice Protection’ to pay homage to Avsha’s rat infested house that all of Ugly Duckling Union was recorded in. Its lyrics are an introduction to some of the core themes of the album like the ambiguity of right and wrong, reality in the scope of different perspectives, and the darkness and light that exists and within an individual.”

MONOLORD – “IT’S NEVERENDING” (FT. JÖRGEN SANDSTRÖM)
Monolord’s new album Neverending is out later this month, and they’ve given us another preview with “It’s Neverending,” featuring Jörgen Sandström (Grave, Entombed). “I did the growling on the demo, but it took me forever to record,” vocalist/guitarist Thomas Jäger says. “It was more like to illustrate the idea. But Jörgen’s voice is so powerful, and his performance on the song is really great.”

MARY IN THE JUNKYARD – “NEW MUSCLES”
It’s the latest terrific single from London band mary in the junkyard’s debut album.

LAURA VEIRS – “FLYING INTO DARKNESS”
Laura Veirs has announced new album Temple Songs which will be out August 14 and this is the first single.
