So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
LIDO PIMIENTA – “HE VENIDO AL MAR”
Lido Pimienta has released a new song for the movie Calladita. She says, “I resonated with this character and her attitude to enjoy life no matter what and in every step of the way, with open eyes and a badass attitude. In the lyrics I say, ‘I am the soil and the seed for my family’ and I truly believe this, in my heart. I do anything to see my children and my community happy and proud, and sometimes there are people more powerful and scary trying to dim our light, but we somehow persevere. ‘I don’t know where I’m going, but I got joy in my heart.’ It’s all about that line, never lowering our gaze, for nobody, never cowering or apologizing for being ourselves and to always and forever defend our right to be joyful and free.”

MAL NOT BAD – “COME ON/HARD TIMES” & “MUSTANG” FT. JUNACO
Los Angeles musician and producer Mal Not Bad is releasing their debut album, This Is Your New Life, on August 9 via Same Same. They’ve shared a new double single, the melancholy, folky “Come On/Hard Times,” and the glitchy, electronic “Mustang,” featuring Junaco.

STRAND OF OAKS – “FUTURE TEMPLE”
The latest single from Strand of Oaks’ upcoming album Miracle Focus finds him venturing into futuristic sci-fi psychedelic electropop.

FINE – “COASTING”
Copenhagen artist Fine, who has collaborated with Erika de Casier and Smerz, releases her debut LP, Rocky Top Ballads, on June 7 via Escho. The latest single is the dreamy, trip-hop vibed “Coasting,” and Fine says, “I approach sounds thinking that everything has potential, ‘Coasting’ was created in one big flow with recordings coming from many different places and time, all forced together.”

CANDY – “YOU WILL NEVER GET ME” (ft. JUSTICE TRIPP)
Richmond hardcore band Candy have shared the third single from It’s Inside You, and it’s an industrial-tinged track that features Angel Du$t/Trapped Under Ice’s Justice Tripp.

THE HOPE CONSPIRACY – “LIVE IN FEAR”
Hardcore vets The Hope Conspiracy have shared another fired-up song from their first album in 18 years, Tools of Oppression / Rule by Deception, and here’s what vocalist Kevin Baker says about this one: “Americans are the most propagandized population on the planet and have no idea that they are. The latest horrors are broadcast between commercials for pharmaceuticals and fast food. The issues that divide us get amplified through the media to keep us all on edge and loathing one another while the corporate masters literally strip mine the middle class for all its worth. Non objective voices push just the right buttons on both sides to distract and keep our eyes off of what’s really going on. The last thing the establishment would want is a well-educated and united population holding them accountable for their war crimes and genocides. We are told what to think. We are told what to say and we are told what to do. Stay in line and live in fear.”

SHYGIRL – “ENCORE” FT. DANNY L HARLE
Shygirl announced a new EP of remixes of this year’s Club Shy EP, CLUB SHY RMX, and it also includes clubby new banger “encore,” featuring Danny L Harle.

LAINEY WILSON – “HANG TIGHT HONEY”
Lainey Wilson is releasing her new album Whirlwind on August 23 via BBR, and its latest single is the propulsive country-pop-rocker “Hang Tight Honey.”

MALICE K – “THE OLD HOUSE”
Malice K announced his debut full-length album, AVANTI, due out on August 23 via Jagjaguwar, and shared new single “The Old House,” which recalls Elliott Smith. “There’s a new family living in the house where I grew up in Olympia Washington,” Malice K says. “My mom was the last person to live there, and she put it up for sale a little over a year after I moved out in my teenage years. She, and everyone else went through too much emotionally in the last few years to keep it. I have so many beautiful memories of growing up there, and it’s a shame it had to end so sadly. I don’t know whether it’s the abrupt ending or the memories, but most of the time in my dreams when I go home, or I’m living somewhere, it’s in that house. I’ve lived so many places since I left home, but I don’t know if I’ve ever considered any of them home. Every night I still live in that house. Essentially that’s what the song is about.”

ULCERATE – “TO SEE DEATH JUST ONCE”
New Zealand death metal experimentalists Ulcerate have shared another towering taste of Cutting the Throat of God.

MONSTERS OF FOLK – “DISAPPEARED”
Monters of Folk, aka Jim James, M. Ward, and Bright Eyes’ Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis, are celebrating the 15th anniversary of their self-titled album with a new expanded edition, due out on June 14 via ATO Records, featuring five previously unreleased songs. They were recorded during a 2012 session featuring a “Fifth Monster,” Centro-Matic’s Will Johnson, and the first of them is “Disappeared.” “That session was very much kept in the moment,” Will says. “I remember looking over at Jim playing drums on ‘Disappeared,’ joyfully bashing away, and it harbored that same exuberance of starting your first band: that moment in the garage where things take flight, and the energy and happiness just lead you onward.”

BALWEZO WESTIJIZ – “ENDLESS BLACK NIGHTMARES”
Swedish band Balwezo Westijiz began as a dark ambient project but have since turned into a black metal band, and their new album Tower of Famine comes out June 14 via Profound Lore. The first single is the eight-minute “Endless Black Nightmares.”

WINTER – “SHANIATWAINLOVESTORY”
Winter’s new EP, …and she’s still listening, comes out later this month, and the latest single is “shaiatwainlovestory.” “I watched Shania Twain’s documentary and felt enraged by how her husband left her for one of her best friends,” Winter says.

SLUDGEWORTH – “TOGETHER NOT TOGETHER”
Chicago punks Sludgeworth’s new 7″ with their first two new songs in over 30 years comes out this Friday (5/17) via Red Scare, and here’s one, “Together Not Together.”

“This is a song I wrote for Blondie, but they didn’t want it, so I decided to reclaim it for myself,” says John Grant of “All That School For Nothing” from his upcoming album The Art of the Lie. “It was much more electronic at first but when I sang it, it became clear that it was much more of a Cameo or Whodini vibe, which I’m all for!”

OF MONTREAL – “SOPORIFIC CELL”
Kevin Barnes says “Soporific Cell” was influenced by “the Afro-Futurism of Saul Williams’ “Neptune Frost”, the novels of Ursula K Le Guin, and the band Hot Chocolate.” You know what? We hear it. New album Lady On The Cusp is out Friday.

OURI – “BABY HAS A FROWN”
Montreal artist Ouri will soon be on tour with Charlotte Day Wilson and ahead of that has released a new single. “This song is an infinite dance of polarities. I wanted it to feel like a mantra and a choreographed pursuit. A slow and deep euphoria playing on loop in your head. Following ‘Twin’ and ‘blueprints of us’, I’m accelerating into this new sonic world where all my sides merge as one.”

Composer and sax master Colin Stetson will release new album The love it took to leave you on September 13 and this is the expansive first single.

NAP EYES – “ICE GRASS UNDERPASS” & “FELINE WAVE RACE”
Halifax indie rock band Nap Eyes are back with their first new music in four years. “It’s been a long band winter for us, so to speak, since the pandemic began back in 2020,” says singer/guitarist Nigel Chapman. “During this time, there’s been a good amount of existential and vocational pressure. And of course, you never really know what tomorrow will bring. So today, we’re very grateful and glad to finally be sharing new music again.”

SHONALI (ULTRABABYFAT) – “UP ALL NIGHT”
Shonali, who you may remember from Ultrababyfat, has announced new solo album One Machine At A Time which will be out July 26 via Little Lamb Recordings. She says its inspired by all the music she loves, including “indie rock, soul, psychedelic and retro sounds of the 70s, 80s, and 90s along with the folk singer-songwriter and country influences of my time growing up in Nashville, Tennessee.” First single “Up All Night” is a lot of fun.

JAKE XERXES FUSSELL – “LEAVING HERE, DON’T KNOW WHERE I’M GOING”
“This song is from the ‘lonesome road’ family of songs, which there have probably been about as many variations of as there have been people to sing them,” says Jake Xerxes Fussell. “This one in particular is another I picked up from my departed friend Art Rosenbaum, who learned it from Joe Rakestraw—fiddler, guitarist and singer of Athens, Georgia. I also included a verse here that I heard from a Berea College archival recording of a somewhat similar song called ‘Alabama Water’ performed by the great Tennessee/Kentucky banjoist and singer Virgil Anderson. I thank Joseph Decosimo for introducing me to that one.” Jake’s new album When I’m Called is out July 12.

Nada Surf have announced Moon Mirror, their 10th album, which will be out September 13 via their new label home New West Records. The band made it at the legendary Rockfield Studios in Wales with Ian Laughton (Supergrass, Ash). Here’s the earworm first single.

New Orleans’ droney shoegaze duo Belong (Michael Jones and Turk Dietrich) have announced Realistic IX, their third album and first in 13 years, which will be out August 9. Check out two songs now.

Tindersticks are back and have announced Soft Tissue, their 14th studio album, which will be out September 13 via City Slang. The video for “New World” omes with a music video directed by Staples and featuring stop-motion animated ceramic figures that were created by his daughter, Sidonie, who also designed the album artwork.
