So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
HINDS – “STRANGER” (FT. GRIAN CHATTEN)

Jet spent the 2000s making some undeniable songs, some cheesy ones, and receiving the most legendary Pitchfork takedown of all time. Today, they released their first song in 15 years. Have at it:

HALSEY – “EGO”
Halsey has announced a new album, The Great Impersonator, due October 25 via Columbia, and she’s shared its third single, “Ego.” All three have been different, and this one kinda sounds like early 2000s pop rock in the vein of Sheryl Crow, Michelle Branch, etc.

LYKKE LI – “MIDNIGHT SHINING”
Lykke Li’s third album, I Never Learn, turned 10 this year, and she’s shared a previously unreleased track from the sessions that produced it, “Midnight Shining.”

A$AP ROCKY – “RUBY ROSARY” (ft. J. COLE, prod. THE ALCHEMIST)
After pushing back his new album Don’t Be Dumb, A$AP Rocky has shared another song from it. “Ruby Rosary” has a smoky beat from The Alchemist and it features J. Cole.

GIRL SCOUT – “HONEY”
Swedish band Girl Scout have announced their third EP, Headache, due out on November 8 via 235 Music. The first single is lush indie pop track “Honey,” which vocalist Emma Jansson says “is about the bittersweet experience of close friends growing apart, heartache and the inevitability to keep everyone in your life at the same time. The lyrics delve into the complex emotions of frustration, concern, and helplessness while witnessing the imbalance of that relationship. It was originally written as an acoustic number, but we discovered that it was better suited as our interpretation of a 2010s indie rock song.”

KURT VILE – “SINS OF MY YOUTH” (TOM PETTY COVER)
Earlier this week, The War On Drugs shared their cover from the Tom Petty covers album that doubles as the soundtrack to the new Vince Vaughn show Bad Monkey, and today their old friend Kurt Vile shared his contribution. Kurt takes on “Sins of My Youth” from the final Tom Petty album, 2014’s Hypnotic Eye.

JANE REMOVER – “MAGIC I WANT U” & “HOW TO TELEPORT”
Following her two July singles, Jane Remover has unveiled two more eclectic, genre-eschewing new tracks, “Magic I Want U” and “How to Teleport.”

JASON ISBELL AND THE 400 UNIT – “THIS AIN’T IT” (LIVE FROM THE RYMAN)
Jason Isbell has shared the second taste of his upcoming live album Live From The Ryman Vol. 2. Isbell’s live album are as great as his studio albums, and making this song extra special is a pro-shot live video from the show.

HATCHIE – “AUGUST” (TAYLOR SWIFT COVER) & “EYES WITHOUT A FACE” (BILLY IDOL COVER)
For Bandcamp Friday, Hatchie has made two previously Patreon subscriber-only covers available to purchase for 24 hours, with proceeds going to Palestinian Children’s Relief Fund.

BODEGA – “N.A.S.S.”
“’N.A.S.S.’ or ‘New Age Spineless Sophists’ is a diss track against the myriad superficial rock and pop groups who employ subversive signifiers yet are wholly without a living aesthetic, intellectual, or emotional point of view (ie. advertisers instead of artists),” says Bodega’s Ben Hozie. “This song dates way back to 2013 when my musical compatriots and I sometimes rehearsed in the now-defunct Brooklyn rehearsal space ‘The Sweat Shop’ and had gigs at a little bar in East Williamsburg called Legion —> Thus when I speak-sing ‘Legion from the Sweat Shop’ I was referring to my weekly routine as a wannabe Brooklyn boho as much as overpriced ‘alt’ fashion made in real sweatshops.” This one’s from the deluxe edition of Brand on the Run that will be out November 1.

OPETH – “§3”
Opeth have shared the second early taste of their new album The Last Will & Testament. “So put yourself in my position for a minute,” Mikael Åkerfeldt says. “Your band has this new album. You like it. In fact, you love it! It’s got this elaborate concept running through all 8 songs on there. You’ve written it over the timespan of say 6 months, effective time. You’ve invested a lot of passion into putting it together. You’ve recorded it together with your friends/colleagues. You’ve had a good time in the process. Now, said album is on the verge of being released and you’re expected to talk about it. Prepare your audience for its coming. Talk it up! You do want people to hear it, right? You love the album so it should be easy, right? At this point, all you have to do is put together a few words for the new ‘single.’ But you’re confused with the use of the term ‘single,’ as you connect it to the olden days where ‘singles’ often had the word ‘hit’ next to it. And you know that won’t happen! Still you want people to hear it. Your loving ‘fans’ might think it’s awesome. But you don’t want to come across as a salesman. On top of that you’re not a complete self-absorbed asshole who thinks you’ve got the Midas touch (well….). Also you have a bad case of that inborn Swedish modesty, sprinkled with some impostor syndrome. What do you say? ‘§3′ is out now!”

IAN BLURTON’S FUTURE NOW – “ENDS OF AUGUST”

Chaparelle, the project of Zella Day and Jesse Woods, have shared their second single, the loungey, country-tinged “Sex & Rage.”

VICTIME – “RÉSONNE ENCORE”
Quebec’s VICTIME will release new album En conversation avec on October 25 via Mothland. They make a cool racket on this new single, and the video is stylish too.

JERRY CANTRELL – “AFTERGLOW”
Jerry Cantrel’s new single “Afterglow” comes with a video from veteran director Matt Mahurin, who made Alice in Chain’s videos for “Angy CHair” and “No Excuses.” Matt says, Two of my all-time favorite videos I’ve directed are ‘No Excuses’ and ‘Angry Chair” for Alice In Chains in the early 1990’s. To be able to once again offer my visual work to Jerry’s ‘Afterglow’ some thirty years later was a blast. From opera aria to pop tune, everybody sees a movie playing in their mind’s eye when they listen to a song. Jerry inspired a welcome fever dream that I was grateful to lure out of my mind’s eye.” Jerry’s new album I Want Blood os pit October 18.

HALF PAST TWO & CATBITE – “WRONG FOR YOU”
Half Past Two and Catbite are both known for making very catchy ska bands, and now they’ve put their heads together for a collaborative track that feels like the perfect middle ground between both bands. It was produced and mixed by We Are The Union’s Reade Wolcott.

GODTHRYMM – “THE LIGHT” & “A PROMISE”
UK death-doom supergroup Godthrymm (current and former members of My Dying Bride, Anathema, Vallenfyre, and more) are planning to follow last year’s Distortions with a new album called Projections, but first, they’ve shared two songs that they call a bridge between the two LPs.

ROME STREETZ & DARINGER – “STARBVXKZ”
Two boom bap devotees, rapper Rome Streetz and producer Daringer, have teamed up for a collaborative project. Titled Hatton Garden Holdup, it drops on October 4, and first single “Starbvxkz” is exactly what you’d hope it’d be.

TORENA – “NO MERCY”
California hardcore band Torena announced a new album, No Control, due October 4 via DAZE. It was recorded with Taylor Young, and Taylor also lends some screams to this track.

MONEY – “FREEBASER”
Oklahoma City grungeazers Money drop off “Freebaser.”

RUNAWAY BROTHER – “SECRET TECHNIQUE”
Cleveland indie/emo band Runaway Brother have released their first song in six years, and it finds a way to be slow and sludgy one minute and upbeat and power poppy the next. It works!

S.H.I.T. – “ROTTEN COLUMN”
Toronto punks S.H.I.T.’s new LP For A Better World drops October 18 via Iron Lung Records and La Vida Es Un Bus Discos. If you like hardcore that’s fast, raw, and in touch with classic punk, don’t miss this one.

BOLDY JAMES – “SUPER MARIO”
The very prolific Detroit rapper Boldy James is in more upbeat form than usual on this new neck-snapper.

MEDICINE – “FALSE ALARM”
It’s the first single from longrunning shoegaze/psych band Medicine’s upcoming self-titled 11th album.

OCS (OH SEES) – “DREADFUL HEART”
OCS, the OSEES folk duo spinoff featuring John Dwyer and Bridget Dawson, are releasing Live at Permanent Records on November 29. The album documents two special benefit shows OCS did in Los Angeles in December 2023. “It was a lot of fun and there was a lot of libation and celebration,” John Dwyer says. “We surrounded ourselves with good friends and came up with this charming off kilter set of recordings. I think they capture the casual energy of the evening in the mood of the crowd.”

34 TROLLEY (SCREAMING FEMALES, CATBITE) – “COMING FOR YOU?”
34 Trolley is a new funk-punk band with Screaming Females’ Jarrett Dougherty on drums, Catbite’s Brittany Luna on lead vocals, and other familiar faces. Listen to their first song and read more here.

GREEN DAY – AMERICAN IDIOT 20TH ANNIVERSARY BOX TRACKS
Green Day have released three tracks from the American Idiot box: the Mike Dirnt-sung B-side/bonus track “Governator,” a live version of “St. Jimmy” from the band’s 2005 VH1 Storytellers performance, and a demo of “Wake Me Up When September Ends” that also comes with a video montage.
