So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SABRINA CARPENTER – “PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE”
In case you haven’t heard, Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” has been an early Song of the Summer contender since it dropped in April, and it’s one of the year’s best pop songs. She since announced that it’ll appear on her next album, Short n’ Sweet, due August 23 via Island, and today she released that album’s second single, “Please Please Please.” This one’s on her softer side, and it comes with a video starring her boyfriend, Saltburn star Barry Keoghan.

LATTO – “SUNDAY SERVICE” (REMIX ft. MEGAN THEE STALLION & FLO MILLI)
Latto’s “Sunday Service” gets an all-star rework with Megan Thee Stallion and Flo Milli turning it into a triple threat of charismatic hip hop women.

ISABELLA LOVESTORY – “VIP”
Alternative reggaeton/neoperreo singer Isabella Lovestory is rolling out new singles ahead of a new album (expected this fall), and she just followed “Botoxxx” with “VIP,” a mostly-Spanish, partially-English song that feels like an instant banger no matter what language you speak.

RACHEL CHINOURIRI – “IT IS WHAT IT IS” (YUNÉ PINKU REMIX)
After releasing her debut LP, What a Devastating Turn of Events, in May, Rachel Chiouriri has shared a new remix from yuné pinku of album track “It Is What It Is.” “I’ve always been incredibly attracted to the way she blends her musical genres and offers something totally unique in the electronic space,” Rachel says of yuné. “She’s a force and a woman doing her thing.”

ZACH BRYAN & NOELINE HOFMANN – “PURPLE GAS”
Zach Bryan follows recent single “Pink Skies” by duetting with newcomer Noeline Hoffman on a version of her own “Purple Gas.” It’s a lovely, somber duet and it has the same artwork as “Pink Skies”… does Zach have another new project on the way?

SBTRKT – “BET YOU NEVER”
UK producer SBTRKT has followed last year’s The Rat Road (his first album in seven years) with a catchy, sample-fueled one-off track called “Bet You Never.”

DOECHII – “MPH”
Doechii follows up the addictive “Alter Ego” with another brash, dance-infused rap song, “MPH.”

MARGO PRICE – “WAYS TO BE WICKED” (TOM PETTY COVER FT. MIKE CAMPBELL)
Margo Price’s new Tom Petty cover features The Heartbreakers’ Mike Campbell, who co-wrote the original song. It’s from Petty Country: A Country Music Celebration of Tom Petty, due out on June 21 via Big Machine Records.

PETEY – “HOME ALONE HOUSE 2” (ft. OWEN)
Rising singer/songwriter Petey has teamed up with Owen (aka American Football vocalist Mike Kinsella) for a somber new acoustic song that’s definitely within Owen’s classic wheelhouse. It’s from an upcoming acoustic EP that arrives on June 21.

MATT POND PA – “LOST LANGUAGES”
Matt Pond has shared a lovely new indie folk song called “Lost Languages,” along with an ASL interpretive video. “‘Lost Languages’ is about learning how to communicate in a new way after life falls apart,” Matt says, “the way we keep waking up and trying to make sense of the world.”
He also announced three shows: Hamden, CT’s Space Ballroom on 8/23, Eastern, MA’s Riverfest on 8/24, and Brooklyn’s Word of Mouth Bookstore on 8/25. West Coast dates TBA soon.

NATHANIEL RATELIFF & THE NIGHT SWEATS – “GET USED TO THE NIGHT”
South of Here, the fourth album from Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, is out later this month, and they’ve shared another single, heartland ballad “Get Used to the Night,” which pays tribute to the late Richard Swift.

HARD CHILLER – “CLOSE BY”
Hard Chiller, the new band with members of From Indian Lakes, RX Bandits, The Velvet Teen, and more, have shared the second single from their upcoming debut EP Heavy Cell, and it’s another great dose of Hum/Failure-style spacey alt-rock.

GIANT WALKER – “MAKE ME” & “HALCION”
UK band Giant Walker have announced a new album, Silhouettes, due September 20 via Church Road, and both singles are melodic, sludgy rock songs recommended if you like Baroness, Torche, Queens of the Stone Age, etc.

FACTOR CHANDELIER – “WITHOUT A TRACE” (ft. CODEFENDANTS)
Canadian producer Factor Chandelier has announced a new album, Cold, Cold World, due September 4 via Fake Four Inc, and lead single “Without A Trace” is a slow-paced indie-rap song featuring Codefendants (aka Fat Mike of NOFX, Sam King of Get Dead, and Ceschi).

PETTI HENDRIX – “BETTER OFF DEAD”
Petti Hendrix’s new song is a pop punk anthem that works as well in 2024 as it would have in 2004, and it’s the latest in a string of promising singles. For more on Petti, there’s an interview on AltPress that’s worth reading.

KAITLIN BUTTS – “COME REST YOUR HEAD (ON MY PILLOW)” (ft. VINCE GILL)
Country singer Kaitlin Butts taps Vince Gill for the latest taste of her Oklahoma!-inspired album Roadrunner!.

FEID – “SORRY 4 THAT MUCH”
Feid remains one of the most consistently rewarding reggaeton singers around, and he’s also extremely prolific. Here’s his latest single.

LACERATION – “EXCISED”
Bay Area death-thrashers Laceration have signed to 20 Buck Spin for their sophomore album, I Erode, due July 26. Lead single “Excised” shows no mercy.

LAIKA SONGS – “FIELD OF VISION” (ft. ONELINEDRAWING)
Brooklyn’s Laika Songs will release Slowly Spiraling Towards the Light next week (6/14) via Galaxy Train Records, and this new single features onelinedrawing (aka John Matranga).

CASH COBAIN – “RUMP PUNCH”
Fresh off announcing a tour supporting Ice Spice, Cash Cobain has released his hazy new single “Rump Punch.”

ROBERT PLANT & ALISON KRAUSS – “WHEN THE LEVEE BREAKS”
Robert Plant takes a new whack at Led Zeppelin classic “when the Levee Breaks” with regular collaborator Allison Krauss. As you might expect, it’s a slightly more subdued version than what’s on Zeppelin IV.

ORVILLE PECK & KYLIE MINOGUE & DIPLO – “MIDNIGHT RIDE”
What do you get when you mix Orville Peck, Kylie Minogue? You get “Midnight Ride” from his new Stampede EP. Says Peck, “Doing this song with Kylie and Diplo was a dream come true. Kylie was the first person I asked to be on Stampede because I knew exactly the kind of magic we could all make together.”

PAIGE STARK – “I’LL NEVER LEAVE YOU”
Paige Stark just released the Good at Love EP which includes a cover of this Harry Nilsson classic. Even when love is really good and right, it’s hard,” Paige says, “It shakes you to your core and forces you to ask yourself who you really are,” Stark says. “And if you don’t respond, it shows you. And I love that, but it’s challenging. I wanted the EP to have that kind of emotional journey…questioning and resolving. So the Nilsson cover felt right for the end. I mean, I love a happy ending.”

THOMAS BANGALTER (DAFT PUNK) – “CHIROPTERA”
Daft Punk’s Thomas Bangalter has released CHIROPTERA, the soundtrack for a dance performance created with artist JR and choreographer Damien Jallet and featuring 154 moving bodies at Paris Opera House on November 12th 2023. NERVOUS EATERS – “ROCK N ROLL YOUR HEART AWAY”
Boston rock vets Nervous Eaters will release new album Rock n Roll Your Heart Away on August 23. The title track is an ode to legendary venue The Rat.

YANNIS & THE YAW (YANNIS OF FOALS + TONY ALLEN) – “UNDER THE STRIKES”
Yannis & The Yaw, aka Foals frontman and late afrobeat legend Tony Allen, are releasing an EP started a decade ago and this is the second single. Allen’s unique drumming style powers this.

SPLIT SYSTEM – “FORCE FIELD”
Aussie punks Split System let loose another mutant ripper.

ASTREL K – “SOUTH TODAY” & “C-YA! (EXTENDED MIX)”
Originally released on a bonus 7″ on Astrel K’s album The Foreign Department earlier this year, these two tracks have now been made available digitally. Says Rhys Edwards (who also leads Ulrika Spacek), “‘South Today’ is very much a standalone track exploring the more experimental electronic sides of this project it started by sampling my 94 year old welsh grandmother and ends in the sounds of broken glass. Although the title refers to my old regional news programme the content of the song depicts a horrible way to say goodbye, tied in with the dominant theme of the album, but apart in terms of its orchestral yet electronic nature. Side B of the 7”, is an extended version of the ‘C YA!’ interlude that appears on TFD.”

OSEES – “CASSIUS, BRUTUS & JUDAS”
OSEES have announced new album ORCS 80 which will be out August 9 via Castle Face. “This album was a self imposed ambitious project for us. Something to kick in the creative flow,” says bandleader John Dwyer. “The last few years, having been a challenging time in general, felt like a good time for a pivot. The last two albums were so guitar and keyboard centric, I wanted a weird and fun set of parameters for us to work with.” Here the first single.

TRAVIS – “BUS”
UK band Travis release their new album L.A. Times in July and this is the new single. “I was on holiday, staring out the window, watching all the boats bobbing on the sea,” says frontman Fran Healy. “I was trying to write a song and nothing was coming. It reminded me of all the years I spent waiting on buses. You never think it’s going to come, but if you wait long enough it usually turns up. Looking out at the sea at all the little sailing boats, I imagined all the bands and artists sitting in them waiting on that freak gust of wind to blow them to fame and fortune. We caught a huge one in ’99 so I can testify to the random nature of it. In the middle of all these thoughts came a cool little melody and the song was written a few minutes later.”
