So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
NILÜFER YANYA – “JUST A WESTERN”
Nilüfer Yanya’s great new album My Method Actor is out this week and here’s one more appetizer before we can dig into the whole thing. “The melody feels freeing to me,” Nilüfer says, “but the lyrics are ‘there’s no way in, no way out’ and the concept is about facing your fate. I don’t know if I believe in fate but it feels real in the song.”

MEN I TRUST – “HUSK”
Men I Trust begin a run of shows next week, including dates with Khruangbin, and ahead of those they’ve shared a smooth new single, “Husk.”

TR/ST – “PERFORMANCE”
Robert Alfons will release new TR/ST album Performance this week and here’s the title track.

THE LINDA LINDAS – “NO OBLIGATION”
The Linda Lindas have shared the title track to their new album No Obligation, which is out in October. “Eloise wrote this ripper because we won’t adhere to what anyone else thinks we should sound like or who they think we are,” the band say. “We don’t make music out of obligation— we make music out of love. And we’re so grateful for all of the opportunities music has given us, like going to Japan and making this video with a team including Naoko from Shonen Knife!”

SEAFOAM WALLS – “HUMANITARIAN PT. II”
Miami indie band Seafoam Walls will release Standing Too Close To The Elephant In The Room on October 18 and here’s the latest single, the jazzy “Humanitarian Pt. II.”

JORDANA – “ANYTHING FOR YOU”
“‘Anything For You’ is a break-up song,” Jordana says of the latest single off her new album Lively Premonition. “It’s a song about attempting to find yourself again after someone has depleted the energy you had in your soul. You are searching for a new self, or aiming to recover what once was there.”

MOREISH IDOLS – “PALE BLUE DOT”
South London band Moreish Idols are back with this new single that’s out now via Speedy Wunderground. The band say: “Pale Blue Dot has been through many iterations, from simple drum machine / guitar demo, to evil krautrock demon hellscape. A spontaneous decision led by Dan Carey brought us to his studio at 8 in the morning to quickly run the song in a new, shortened arrangement, played on acoustic guitars and simplified down to its bare bones. It was a beautiful morning, and we all felt we were hearing the song the way it was meant to be heard: just straight to the point. The track encourages you to kill your darlings, soak in the vastness of everything, and commit to your own obliterating but necessary ego death. Pale Blue Dot has been through this same journey and for that it’s a very special one for us.”

ALLEGRA KRIEGER – “ROOSEVELT AVE”
Allegra Krieger’s new album Art of the Unseen Infinity Machine is out this Friday, and she’s shared a final advance single ahead of its release, “Roosevelt Ave.” “I wrote this song in a sort of fever dream state,” she says, “inspired by some abrupt life changes & a walk through Queens down Roosevelt Ave. During this time in my life, everything felt very vivid, fragile, and temporary.”

GOAT – “GOATBRAIN”
Swedish psych band Goat have shared a second groovy single from their forthcoming self-titled sixth album. “Don’t stay in your brain,” advise Goat. “Go further in. And out.”

TRACE MOUNTAINS – “HARD TO ACCEPT”
Dave Benton’s new album as Trace Mountains, Into the Burning Blue, comes out later this month, and he’s given us a final early taste with “Hard to Accept,” which he says “reflects on those moments when communication breaks down in a relationship and we’re left to piece everything together. When I brought the song to Craig, I was excited to collaborate with him because of his impressive work on the Japanese Breakfast records. I thought his arranging instincts would be a good match, and we quickly got to work crafting the rhythm section arrangement. In our first recording session together, munching on dried mango and blueberries, Craig and I breathed new life into ‘Hard to Accept’ with a vibrant, danceable quality while being careful to maintain its emotionality. He really took his time with my vocal, capturing breath and air in the recording that made the performance sound more intimate. I think we were able to strike a balance between the heavy feelings and a more upbeat, cathartic vibe—combining tears, laughter, and a sort of defiant, night-drive-blasting-music, ‘No, really… I’m good’ attitude.”

REYNA TROPICAL – “CARTAGENA” (SYLVAN ESSO REMIX)
Sylvan Esso have remixed Reyna Tropical’s “Cartagena” from this year’s Malegria. “I was sipping on my mezcal on a sunny Austin day in March watching Sylvan Esso making the crowd wild with the sickest DJ set when suddenly I heard a guitar that sounded like mine and realized I was hearing this underworld version of ‘Cartagena,’” Reyna says. “Nick is one of the most amazing producers I know so hearing him turn one of my favorite songs on Malegría into a thicc sexy club hit was the best surprise of 2024. So excited for this to be out in the world!”

CURSIVE – “BLOODBATHER”
Cursive’s new album Devourer is out this Friday, and ahead of that they’ve given us a final preview with “Bloodbather,” which Tim Kasher says is “the internal dialogue I assume most of us have, the squabbles of conscience to be a more upstanding person when you’d much prefer to wallow in your vices.”

MAT KEREKES – “MOTORBIKE”
Citizen singer Mat Kerekes has announced a new solo album, To Dream of Something Wicked, due October 18 via Wax Bodega, and first single “Motorbike” explores a breezy indie rock side in a uniquely-Mat Kerekes way.

EMILY FREMBGEN – “HARD 2 LOVE”
Emily Frembgen’s new album No Hard Feelings comes out this Friday, and she’s shared one more early single, earnest folk track “Hard 2 Love.”

PHARMAKON – “METHANAL DOLL”
Pharmakon is a master of abrasive, unsettling noise music, and this latest taste of Maggot Mass is no exception.

KÁRYYN – “GROUND”
KÁRYYN’s new single features in an Apple campaign and was partially inspired by Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ The Women Who Run with the Wolves. “It’s about pulling back to see the bigger picture, and beginning anew,” she says. “‘Ground’ is a call to end hesitation and take action: ‘No more time for conversation, no more time for sentiment, bring me the science, show me the proof'”

LESS THAN JAKE – “BRAND NEW DAY”
Ska-punk vets Less Than Jake have been in the midst of dropping new singles lately, and today’s addition “Brand New Day” takes on the darkness of modern times in a catchy LTJ way.

MERCE LEMON – “CROW”
“Every year the crows migrate over Pittsburgh,” Merce Lemon says. “I wrote this song after sitting on my roof in 2019, watching the sky turn black with fluttering wings, flying in mass towards the blue water tower planted on the hill in the distance.” It’s from her new album Watch Me Drive Them Dogs Wild.

THE ALCHEMIST – “FERRARIS IN THE RAIN” (ft. SCHOOLBOY Q)
The Alchemist is releasing a new album called The Genuine Articulate next week (9/20) via ALC, and it’ll include “Ferraris in the Rain,” which finds Alchemist and Schoolboy Q trading verses over a smoky Alchemist beat.

NEVA DINOVA – “LONELY HEART”
Canary, Neva Dinova’s first new album in 16 years, is out later this month, and they’ve shared another track from it, “Lonely Heart,” which features Megan Siebe on lead vocals for the first time. “Distracted and oppressed by tragedy and the superficial nature of finding love, a disfigured young lady doubts her ability to be loved,” Jake Bellows says. “Her shame wants to keep her isolated. But deep down she believes in love and resolves to try.”

DREAMLESS VEIL – “CYANIDE MINE”
Dreamless Veil, the new black metal band with members of Inter Arma, Artificial Brain, Psycroptic, and more, have shared another taste of their upcoming debut LP Every Limb Of The Flood.

ANNA MCCLELLAN – “ENDLESSLY”
Anna McClellan announced a new album, Electric Bouquet, due out on October 25 via Father/Daughter, and shared the slowly rising “Endlessly,” which she says is “definitely a mile marker song for me. I think it retains all of the common traits of my songwriting while reaching a new level of maturity. It feels important and urgent to express this idea that we are each other’s truths. We can’t look to the supposed leaders of our system or the media for truth. They only lie and cause further destruction. ‘The truth is in knowing you/ Let it all come through.’ I wrote this song from the gut and I live my life off of my gut and I think in this time of such chaos and death, tapping into intuition and moving toward what it is telling us is the only way forward. I think God may be just another word for the gut.”

CROSBY, STILLS, NASH & YOUNG – “HELPLESSLY HOPING” (LIVE AT FILLMORE EAST, 1969)
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young have unearthed recordings of their September 20, 1969 show at NYC’s Fillmore East–which took place during their first tour, one month after their famed Woodstock performance–for a new live album. Live At The Fillmore East, 1969 comes out October 25, and you can hear “Helplessly Hoping” now and read more here.

LOUISA STANCIOFF – “HEIST”
Louisa Stancioff has followed her debut album, this year’s When We Were Looking, with “Heist,” which she calls “an exploration of the desire for control and the difficulty of achieving full autonomy, especially in a male dominated society. The dark and whirly soundscape, in conjunction with the intense imagery and metaphor, intend to create a provocative setting for the story of an untethered yet determined character, who revels in her devious schemes that may ultimately lead to her demise. I wrote the song on tour out west a few years ago. We were in two separate cars driving through the desert in Arizona, and I was in my car alone with no air conditioning going 85 on the freeway with the wind in my hair just singing this made up song about a heist. It was kind of a joke until it wasn’t anymore.”

PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS – “FIX ME”
Planes Mistaken For Stars vocalist Gared O’Donnell passed away from stage III esophageal cancer in 2021, but what we didn’t know at the time was that Gared wrote and recorded one last album with Planes amid his cancer treatment and global lockdown. It’s coming out this fall, and you can read about lead single “Fix Me” here.

Montreal psych/komische three-piece Yoo Doo Right have announced new album From the Heights of Our Pastureland which will be out November 8 via Mothland. THis is the sprawling, 13-minute opener.

FAZERDAZE – “CHERRY PIE”
New Zealand artist Fazerdaze is finally following up her 2017 debut album with Soft Power and this is the new single.

TEMPLES – “DAY OF CONQUEST”
UK psych band Temples have announced the Other Structures EP which features six unreleased and remixed tracks from Temples 2014 debut album, Sun Structures, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary.
