So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JAMIE XX FT. THE AVALANCHES – “ALL YOU CHILDREN”
“The Avalanches have always been an inspiration for me,” says Jamie xx of his collaboration with the Australian crate-diggers. “Their sample technique and how they piece together different sounds is incredible and collaborating on a track with them has showed me new ways of making music.” It’s from Jamie xx’s upcoming album In Waves.

HALEY HEYNDERICKX – “SEED OF A SEED”
Haley Heynderickx is back with her first new music in 6 years. “I first sent a demo of ‘Seed of a Seed’ to my friend Tré Burt and he loved it,” she says. “For three years he kept asking me if I’d finished the ‘better better’ song. It felt like a throwaway song to me, at first. It’s so simple, but I didn’t realize how much angst I’d woven into it: a desire for simplicity, and how far away that felt. It seems I accidentally pressed my story—the last four years of my life—into a tiny little tune and I love it now, too.”

TRACE MOUNTAINS – “IN A DREAM”
LVL UP member Dave Benton has announced a new Trace Mountains album, Into The Burning Blue (due September 27 via Lame-O Records), and he’s shared the seven-minute, War On Drugs-y single “In A Dream.”

JHENÉ AIKO – “GUIDANCE”
Jhené Aiko’s smooth new single “Guidance” is paired with a jazzy piano verson.

KATE BOLLINGER – “WHAT’S THIS ABOUT (LA LA LA LA)”
“This was one of those songs that arrived in my head fully formed,” Kate Bollinger says of her summery new single, “kind of like it was delivered to me by someone else, and as its conduit I banged around on guitar trying to find where the chords were. It’s sort of an ode to Of Montreal’s Cherry Peel and Apples in Stereo’s Tone Soul Evolution.” Kate’s new album Songs From A Thousand Frames Of Mind is out September 27 via Ghostly International.

LAEL NEALE – “ELECTRICITY”
“I wrote the song during an ice storm a couple of winters ago that caused a 5-day power outage while I was living on my family’s farm in Virginia,” Lael Neale says of her new single. “I experienced intense withdrawal from all these things we’ve come to depend on so heavily in our modern life – like lighting, heat, refrigeration, and entertainment. I felt a range of sensations from utter emptiness to complete liberation. I realized we’re essentially electrified beings now, but through unplugging entirely we have a chance to gain a new perspective and reset ourselves.”

THE SOFTIES – “TINY FLAME”
Rose Melberg and Jen Sbragia are gearing up to release their first album as The Softies in 24 years and have shared a third single from the record. “Sometimes the same heat that can set a heart aflame can also burn some shit to the ground,” say Rose of “Tiny Flame.”

LAURA JANE GRACE & THE MISSISSIPPI MEDICALS – “KARMA TOO CLOSE”
Laura Jane Grace announced her debut EP with her backing back the Mississippi Medicals. Give An Inch is due out on September 6 via Dial Back Sound, and they’ve given us another early taste with lo-fi ripper “Karma Too Close.”

JADE HAIRPINS (FUCKED UP) – “LET IT BE ME” & “MY FEET ON YOUR GROUND”
Jade Hairpins, aka Jonah Falco and Mike Haliechuk from Fucked Up, will release their second album on September 13 via Merge and here are two more songs from it. “Le It Be Me” opens the album with a little Queen-style bombast, while “My Feet On Your Ground” is just a little funky and definitely horn-enhanced.

SLEEPER’S BELL – “ROAD SONG”
Chicago’s Blaine Teppema and Evan Green lovely folk pop as Sleeper’s Bell and are back with their first new music in three years. “Road Song” is instantly appealing with its skittering beat, gentle guitars and Blaine’s easygoing vocals. Also: sax!

COCO & CLAIR CLAIR – “KATE SPADE”
Coco & Clair Clair’s new album Girl is out in August, and they’ve shared the second single, “Kate Spade,” which they say “was one of the first songs we finished for the album after a night out in Amsterdam. It’s a little naughty and a little catty, but overall it’s meant to be uplifting. Big up yourself vibes because there’s always gonna be someone out there who wants what you have.”

CHELSEA WOLFE – “TUNNEL LIGHTS (††† REMIX)”
Chelsea Wolfe will release the Undone EP on August 30 that features remixes of songs from She Reaches Out To She Reaches Out To She by Boy Harsher, Justin K Broadrick, Forest Swords, Full of Hell, Ash Koosha and ††† who put their spin on “Tunnel Lights.” Say †††, “We’ve known Chelsea since we both lived in Sacramento. When we were approached to do this remix, it seemed like a perfect time to collaborate. We feel like our sounds work very well together.”

SCOUT GILLETT – “CLOSER”
Scout Gillet’s new self-released EP Imagination, MO is due out on September 5, and she’s shared another track from it, “Closer.” It’s inspired by The Cars, The Pretenders, and Pat Benatar, and she says, “I never had the guts to tell them. So I just wrote a song about it and I never got a kiss – so I figured I’d try to make a hit.”

MARY LATTIMORE & WALT MCCLEMENTS – RAIN ON THE ROAD
Mary Lattimore and Walt McClements made new album Rain on the Road in one day at McClements’ LA apartment and mixes melodic composition with a little music concrete.

JABEE – “HEAR ME WHEN I PRAY”
OKC rapper Jabee has announced a new album, The Spirit Is Willing, But The Flesh Is Weak, nd here’s the Conductor Williams-produced chipmunk soul of lead single “Hear Me When I Pray.”

DOWNHAUL – “SOLSTICE”
Downhaul have announced a new album, How To Begin, due September 20 via Self Aware Records, and the first single is the Americana/indie/emo hybrid “Solstice.”

TEAM CHINO – “NERVES” & “BEG”
Tulsa, OK’s Team Chino have dropped a new two-song promo on Sunday Drive Records, and these songs sound straight out of the ’90s/grunge/alt-rock era.

HEART TO GOLD – “TNT”
Heart To Gold have announced a new album, Free Help, due November 15 via Memory Music, and here’s the grungy, emo-y lead single “TNT.”

Boston rock weirdos Kal Marks have announced a new album, Wasteland Baby, due September 13 via Exploding In Sound, and they sound as eccentric and angular as ever on new single “Insects.”

After a few weeks of teasing, The Hard Quartet — the new group featuring Stephen Malkmus (Pavement), Matt Sweeney (Chavez), Jim White (Dirty Three) and Emmett Kelly (Ty Segall) — have officially announced themselves, shared their first single.

Porridge Radio announced their new album, Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me, and unveiled the first single, which you can read more about here.

CHRISTOPHER OWENS (EX-GIRLS) – “I THINK ABOUT HEAVEN”
Former Girls singer/guitarist Christopher Owens is back with his first new music in seven years. Set against a shimmering mix of acoustic and electric guitars, “I Think About Heaven” is sunny and optimistic, with Owens singing “I think about heaven and I smile / Things don’t seem so bad.”

GOAT – “OUROBOROS”
Named for the famous image of a serpent eating its own tail, “Ouroboros” mixes ’60s cinematic funkiness with ’90s hip hop culture and filters it though Goat’s masked, globe-trotting worldview. It’s a banger and Goat’s self-titled sixth album will be out October 11.

HOTLINE TNT – SOMERSAULT EP
Hotline TNT, who released Cartwheel last year, have taken some of that album’s songs and handed them over to friends for a new remix EP, Somersault, that’s out digitally now. It includes remixes by They Are Gutting a Body of Water, DJ Sabrina the Teenage DJ, downstairs J, Car Culture, and Poisonfrog.

PEARL & THE OYSTERS – “BIG TIME”
As the title implies, Pearl & The Oysters’ upcoming album Planet Pearl is a bit of an extraterrestrial affair, “written from the perspective of castaway space explorers marooned on Earth.” The first single is “Big Time,” which sonically owes a lot of ’70s and ’80s yacht rock, while the video pays homage to John Carpenter’s classic sci-fi action film They Live.

NAP EYES – “PASSAGEWAY”
“I had the last verse of this song written for a long time, along with a bunch of earlier verses that I didn’t like as much that I eventually discarded,” says Nap Eyes’ Nigel Chapman of the latest single from the band’s upcoming The Neon Gate. “Eventually one quiet day when I was not doing too much of anything, I started to come up with the lyrics of the earlier verses—just in my head without an instrument or speaking them out loud, which is unusual for me. So the song was generated by this out-of-the-ordinary writing method, but I think this resulted in a song that is pretty different from anything else I’ve written to date. During the live tracking at our friend René Wilson’s home and studio, Brad was playing acoustic guitar in the stairwell, Josh and Seamus were playing in the main room, while I sang in an adjacent bedroom.”
