So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE BLESSED MADONNA – “GODSPEED” (ft. DJ E-CLYPS)
Over a decade into her career, UK electronic musician The Blessed Madonna has announced her first full-length album, Godspeed, due October 11 via Warner Music UK. It features appearances by Kylie Minogue, A-Trak, Ric Wilson, James Vincent McMorrow, Danielle Ponder, and more, and she just released the title track, which features DJ E-Clyps.

MAGDALENA BAY – “TUNNEL VISION”
Speaking about the latest electro-bop from their new album Imaginal Disk, Magdalena Bay say, “artificial intelligence won’t approximate humanity until it learns how to hate itself.”

COFFIN ROT – “PERVERTED EXHUMATION”
Portland, OR death metallers have announced their sophomore album, Dreams Of The Disturbed, due September 20 via Maggot Stomp. Here’s the gruesome lead single “Perverted Exhumation.”

OCEANATOR – “DRIFT AWAY” FT. NNAMDÏ
Oceantaros’ new album Everything is Love and Death is out at the end of August, and they’ve shared another new track from it, “Drift Away,” which features NNAMDÏ. “I had listened to Dopesmoker the night before and was in a sludge-y kind of mood,” Elise Okusami says. “The bass was the first thing to come for the song and the whole thing was built around that. Some of the lyrics came right away, too, but the rest was worked out during demo-ing and in the studio. I kind of see this song as like the anchor song of the record, not necessarily in terms of tone but in terms of vibe. The video was all shot when we went to do the album cover photo shoot, and I wanted it to just be a kind of drifting, unsure, nebulous sort of thing. The leapt from a sinking ship to a crumbling pier line was in there early on and kind of sums up the feeling of leaving one unsure and tenuous situation for another. Since I wanted to do kind of just like a talking drone-y thing for myself the whole time, I thought it would be cool to have a guest vocalist on there. NNAMDÏ absolutely killed it. I am so pleased with what he did on the track and I think it really brings it into an even spookier world.”

WISHY – “JUST LIKE SUNDAY”
Wishy’s Nina Pitchkites calls their new single, “Just Like Sunday,” “mostly a love song about yearning and bending to the will of someone you care about while also letting go of your inhibitions. When we first were writing and demoing out the song, we likened this track to the cadence of a Goo Goo Dolls song, which meant that the working title was subsequently called ‘What If Goo Goo.'” It’s from their anticipated debut LP Triple Seven.

ORANSSI PAZUZU – “VALOTUS”
Oranssi Pazuzu have shared the second single from their upcoming album Muuntautuja, which arrives October 11 via Nuclear Blast, and after going in a more electronic, mostly-non-metal direction on the title track, “Valotus” proves there’s still plenty of metal on the new album too.

ILLUMINATI HOTTIES – “THE L”
“The L is about knowing when to back down – it’s a lesson I’ve had the great fortune to have many chances to learn over and over again,” Sarah Tudzin says of the latest single off her new album as Illuminati Hotties, Power. “It’s about putting your pride aside in favor of resolution. We could go separate ways, but I’ll take the ‘L’ instead. The vocals in the bridge are from the original demo, and capture how tiny and vulnerable I feel when I’m surrendering to love and compromise. It’s very hard when you’re independent and sure-headed and stubborn to figure out how to navigate partnership, but I’ve thrown my hands up in this song… love always comes out on top.”

JANE REMOVER – “FLASH IN THE PAN” & “DREAM SEQUENCE”
Ahead of her tour with JPEGMAFIA, Jane Remover shared two new singles, “Flash in the Pan” and “Dream Sequence.” In an Instagram story, she writes, “Flash/dream = hello/goodbye but its not part of a project or nothing just wanted to put something out for the tour which u should go to.”

BLOOD SERMON / 3ND7R – UNSTABLE ELEMENTS
Two European hardcore bands, Stockholm’s Blood Sermon and Padua’s 3ND7R, have just dropped a split EP via DAZE/Quality Control HQ. Both bands have different takes on metallic hardcore, and the whole thing rips.

LESS THAN JAKE – “WALKING PIPEBOMB”
Ska-punk vets Less Than Jake have released their second single of 2024. It sounds like classic LTJ, and it’s clearly a little fired up; here’s what saxophonist JR Wasilewski says about it: “The world has been contentious as of late. Many voices battling for who can scream the loudest about whatever the talking point of the moment is. For myself, I focus on being kind to everyone and staying out of the fray. But, from time to time, people do their best to drag me down to them – and are successful. These are the moments when I want to explode. I can’t contain my rage. This song is representative of how I feel at those moments.”

BENT KNEE – “NEVER COMING HOME”
Boston art rock band Bent Knee’s new album Twenty Pills Without Water comes out August 30 via Take This To Heart, and here’s the twitchy new single “Never Coming Home.”

DEARY – “SELENE”
UK shoegazers deary are back with a new single featuring Slowdive’s Simon Scott on drums. “We drafted Simon in on drumming duties and he provided a solid foundation which allowed the song to play out above him,” says the band’s Ben Easton. “Sonically, we allowed ourselves more space to build the instrumentation of the track, not to throw in vocals where they weren’t needed and let the song transcend on its own. I think it’s one of the best things we’ve written together.”

X – “RUBY CHURCH”
LA punk legends X release their self-titled ninth and final album on Friday and here’s one last early taste. John Doe Describes “Ruby Church” as “a jeweled sanctuary where the hero protects and inspires the people around him with a gift of joy,” and adds “The lyrics were written shortly after our beloved friend Paul Rubens passed. He had a super power to laugh his crazy laugh, give a knowing smirk and bring everyone along.”

MISO EXTRA – “SLOW DOWN” FT DJ BORING
“When DJ Boring first came to me with this beat I knew it was special and that we had to work together to develop this idea,” says Miso Extra of her collab single with DJ Boring. “This track for me evokes a feeling of exhaustive euphoria at the end of a night out, coupled with that trance-like state of desire to want to get home. When I was tracking the vocal for the song I was getting really frustrated that I wasn’t getting the delivery and intonation quite how I wanted it so much so that in one of the takes I blurted out “I didn’t get it” which eventually ended up being used as a sample on the track.”

SUUNS – “OVERTURE”
SUUNS new album The Breaks is out September 6 and it shows a new side of the band, like on “Overature” which somewhere between classical and EDM. It almost didn’t make the album. “It’s so bonkers, like a little two-and-a-half-minute bomb,” says the band’s Joseph Yarmush. “I think the vocals for me are what actually draws me the most to that song. I never heard that type of singing from Ben before. It just hit me in a way that I was like, ‘we have to put this on the record’.”

KING BUZZO (MELVINS) & TREVOR DUNN (MR. BUNGLE) – “SIDEWALK BEGGING”
Just ahead of their joint tour, The Melvins’ King Buzzo and Mr Bungle’s Trevor Dunn have shared this cover of this classic by Texas punk legends THe Dicks. “The Dicks were one of the best bands ever and it was sad hearing of Gary Floyd’s passing,” King Buzzo shares. “‘Sidewalk Begging’ was recorded completely live in one take!”

CHIME SCHOOL – “THE END”
Cat lovers alert: Chime School’s video for “The End” is full of furry felines, from the real kind to stop-motion animated kitties. The jangly song is from the band’s upcoming album The Boy Who Ran the Paisley Hotel.

OK COWGIRL – “OUR LOVE”
Brooklyn band OK Cowgirl release their debut album Couldn’t Save Us From My Gut on August 16 and here’s another single from it. “Our Love” “encapsulates such an emotional time of rebirth for me,” says singer/songwriter Leah Lavigne. It comes with a lovely sunrise beach scene video.

BRYAN FERRY – “SHE BELONGS TO ME”
Bryan Ferry’s new 81-track Retrospective comes with 16 “rare and unreleased” tracks including “Star,” Ferry’s first new original song in a decade, and this new version of Bob Dylan’s “She Belongs to Me.”

FATHER JOHN MISTY – “I GUESS TIME JUST MAKES FOOLS OF US ALL”
Father John Misty is releasing a “Greatish Hits” comp that includes this new country-disco number.

SNAIL MAIL – “TONIGHT, TONIGHT” (THE SMASHING PUMPKINS COVER)
Snail Mail’s Smashing Pumpkins cover was previously only available on vinyl copies of the I Saw the TV Glow soundtrack, but it’s now available on streaming services too.

CARIBOU – “VOLUME”
“‘Pump up the Volume’ was the first time in my life I heard electronic music,” says Caribou’s Dan Snaith. “it completely blew my mind.” His new single is built out of samples of that song but he makes it his own.

GEORGIA GETS BY – “SOME KIND OF ANGEL” & “SPLIT LIP”
Georgia Gets By announced a new EP, Split Lip, and shared two singles from it, which you can read more about here.

GUIDED BY VOICES – “I AM A SCIENTIST” (30TH ANNIVERSARY VERSION)
Guided by Voices‘ breakthrough seventh album, Bee Thousand, turned 30 earlier this summer, and to celebrate they’ve recorded a new version of the album’s single, “I Am a Scientist.” Bee Thousand helped usher in the lo-fi wave of the ’90s, but here with the killer current lineup of GBV, it takes on more of an arena-ready power-pop feel.

American Football are celebrating the 25th anniversary of LP1 with a reissue and an album with covers of every song on the original LP. The Iron & Wine cover of “Never Meant” is out now, and you can read more here.

Every Time I Die/Dillinger Escape Plan supergroup Better Lovers have finally announced their anticipated debut album, Highly Irresponsible, and you can read about the lead single here.

FOXING – “GREYHOUND”
Foxing have announced their new self-titled album in a slightly unorthodox way. They put up a 23-minute “press conference” video with no one in the audience except a bunch of empty seats with publications’ logos on them (and just for the record, we were actually invited), and in it, they announce the album and premiere the eight-minute lead single “Greyhound.” Read more here.
