So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THOU – “UNBIDDEN GUEST”
Thou have shared another taste of their anticipated new album Umbilical, and it’s a dark, abrasive metal song that comes with a truly amazing music video.

SOUR WIDOWS – “STARING INTO HEAVEN/SHINING”
Bay Area indie rock trio Sour Widows are finally gearing up for their debut album Revival of a Friend, following some increasingly good EPs, and here’s the eight-and-a-half minute closer “Staring Into Heaven/Shining.” As we’ve come to expect from this band, this song earns the lengthy runtime and takes some climactic turns throughout.

BONNY LIGHT HORSEMAN – “OLD DUTCH”
Bonny Light Horseman have given us another taste of their upcoming 20-song double album Keep Me On Your Mind/See You Free. It finds the folk trio at their most impactful, with some uplifting group harmonies to boot.

THE STORY SO FAR – “ALL THIS TIME”

ELADIO CARRIÓN – PORQUE PUEDO EP
Eladio Carrión has followed his recent album Sol Maria with this new EP, and he says, “With Sol Maria being a more commercial album, I felt I owed my fans some trap.”

THE HOLY GHOST TABERNACLE CHOIR – “JUDGE JUDY & EXECUTIONER”
Savannah, Georgia’s Holy Ghost Tabernacle Choir mix Slint-style spoken word and harsh metallic screamo on the hilariously-titled “Judge Judy & Executioner.”

BURNING BUSH – DEMO 2024
Kansas City raw punks Burning Bush have dropped a new demo on the always-trustworthy Delayed Gratification Records.

DOMINIC ANGELELLA – “SATELLITE TELEPHONE” / “ANALOG CIRCUIT”
Dominic Angelella (who’s played in mewithoutYou, Hop Along, and more) has dropped two new solo songs: the motorik indie rock of “Satellite Telephone” and the slower, more singer/songwriter-y “Analog Circuit.”

SUPERCRUSH – “LOST MY HEAD”
Supercrush vocalist Mark Palm’s label KR Records is putting out a Seattle scene comp, From Far It All Seems Small, on May 24, and it’ll include this very ’90s song from Supercrush themselves.

ERIN RAE – “EARLY BLUE” (F.J. MCMAHON COVER)
“I’ve listened to this song by F.J McMahon about a million times,” Erin Rae says of her new cover of “Early Blue.” “Felt good to my spirit to sing it so I recorded a version with my friend Ryan McFadden at his studio in here in Nashville.”

ALAN VEGA – “CYANIDE SOUL”
Here’s another track from Alan Vega archival album Insurrection. “Discovering another album’s worth of unreleased Vega tracks was shocking and there is so much material to continue to go through,” says producer Jared Artaud. “After we produced and mixed “Mutator,” we found these unfinished songs on ADAT tapes that had not been mixed. One of them was Cyanide Soul. This track really struck me by its minimalism and its dark and haunting beauty. My objective with Vega’s material is always to curate and finish the work in a way that Alan would have been proud of. There are a number of artistic decisions that go into putting these albums together and it’s an honor to be able to release and share this music.”

RAVEENA – “PLUTO”
Raveena is back with her first new music in two years. About “Pluto,” she says, “This record is so inner child for me. It’s a song about loss, but woven into the most joyful soundbed. When making it, I was remembering the feeling of having my little walkman and listening to the most euphoric pop songs, dancing around the yard or looking out the window on a long drive at ten years old. I want to bring back the sweetness that feels like it’s suspended in that time of the early 2000s and 90s. I love the amalgamation of sounds we landed on in this song- it’s such a classic R&B record in so many ways, with all these hidden gems of unique instruments like swarmandal and electric sitar.”

JOHN CALE – “SHARK-SHARK”
“Sometimes you write a song purely for a mood,” John Cale says of his new single “Shark-Shark” and it’s video by Abigail Portner. “‘Shark-Shark’ has two versions – both a nod to finding humor in music. When you’re feeling too much of the real world, the best diversion is something that puts a grin on your face. I don’t know how Abby & team kept this shoot together – being ‘unserious’ was a lot of fun!” New album POPtical Illusion is out June 14 via Domino.

FINOM – “CYCLOPS” (VIDEO DIRECTED BY MARISA DABICE)
Finom (fka Ohmme) have shared “Cyclops” from their upcoming album Not God, and the pugilistic video was directed by Mannequin Pussy’s Marisa “Missy” Dabice. “Your band is your own personal Odyssey,” Says Finom. “You have to want to go on it, you have to fight for it, you have to live for it. I think this song is reacting to some of the subtle undercurrents and mental demons we’ve had to fight off when it comes to persisting as a band. But also, really thinking about battling a cyclops and all of the injury you endure to make it through to the other side.”

O. – “MICRO”
Sax and drums duo O. release their debut album on June 21 and here’s another song from it. “Micro” is funky, percussive and just a little freaky.

SWAMP DOGG – “UGLY MAN’S WIFE”
“I wrote ‘Ugly Man’s Wife’ with one of my favorite co-writers, Bob Jones, now deceased,” says Swamp Dogg. “I promised him that I would record it on my next album. I kept my word.” New album Blackgrass: From West Virginia to 125th St will be out May 31.

GOOD LOOKS – “CAN YOU SEE ME TONIGHT?”
Good Looks’ second album is out June 7 and here is the third and final single. “Can You See Me Tonight?” is another winner.

JESS CORNELIUS – “LAPS IN THE DRUGSTORE”
Here’s another song from Jess Cornelius’ new album CARE/TAKING that’s out June 14. “I started writing ‘Laps in the Drugstore’ several years ago, but it was just the opening chords and melody,” Cornelius says. “It wasn’t clear how to finish it or what it was really about. But it stuck in my head and eventually I came back to it in the middle of making the album. And then it made sense — I’d been so scared of changing my situation even though it was crushing my self-esteem. And once I finally did, the future opened up. Something comes behind, every single time.”

SLOW PULP – “SLUGS” (YEULE + KIN LEONN REMIX)
“I have love love loved Slow Pulp for a long time, I’m so happy to work on this remix for them, they are inspiring in so many ways, and their music helped me through some really hard times,” says yeule of their remix of “Slugs” which also features Kin Leonn. “When I heard the new record, I couldn’t stop listening to Slugs. Both Kin Leonn and I put a lot of love in this remix, one of my favourite tracks off the new record.”

7EBRA – “NORMAL SONG”
Swedish twin sisters Inez and Ella Johansson are back with a new 7ebra single. “When we originally had the idea for the song, it was sort of a lighthearted joke actually” says Ella. “But it quite quickly resonated with us, and we realized that this could maybe turn into a proper song. We recorded it with Jens Lindgård at Gula Studion here in Malmö, and I think his production matches the story and juxtaposition of the song perfectly. On first listen it maybe sounds like a lighthearted festival banger, especially with the big pumping chorus, but then you realise it’s actually quite sad.”

NEW STARTS (DARREN HAYMAN) – “UNDER THE STRIPLIGHTS”
Darren Hayman of Hefner has a new band titled New Starts. “I wanted a band again,” says Hayman, “and not a band that just backed me up and played my old songs. When we form our first bands in our teens we just find some friends and work through the musical differences. I usually look for players who play in a way I’m used to. This time I looked for variance and was led by people’s personality.” This is their first single and debut album More Break-Up Song is out August 1 via Fiki Recordings.

MIKI BERENYI TRIO (MEMS LUSH, MOOSE) – “VERTIGO”
Lush cofounder Miki Berenyi has shared the debut single from her new group, the Miki Berenyi Trio, which includes her partner and Piroshka bandmate KJ ‘Moose’ McKillop (also of ’90s shoegazers Moose) and Oliver Cherer. “‘Vertigo’ is about anxiety and the efforts to talk myself down from the precipice – the usual cheerful stuff,” Berenyi says of the single, which adds electronic percussion to the ethereal sound she’s honed with previous groups.

MARTHA SKYE MURPHY – “PICK YOURSELF UP”

EFTERKLANG – “PLANTS”
Danish group Efterklang have announced a new album, Things We Have In Common, which will be out September 27 via City Slang. This is the new single featuring Mabe Fratti.

THE BUG CLUB – “QUALITY PINTS”
Scrappy Welsh duo The Bug Club (bassist/vocalist Tilly Harris and guitarist/vocalist Sam Willmett) have signed to Sub Pop and released their first single for the label. “Quality Pints” is the kind of indie punk ripper that feels custom built to send audiences into a shout-along, beer-fueled frenzy.
