So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
DOECHII – “ANXIETY”
Doechii has been everywhere lately, and now she officially released her years-old YouTube drop “Anxiety,” which finds her prominently sampling Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know.” The chorus of original version was also sampled by Sleepy Hallow on his song of the same name, which Doechii is credited as a featured guest on.

SISTER. – “BLOOD IN THE VINES”
NYC-based trio Sister. have shared a new single, delicate, atmospheric folk track “Blood in the Vines,” which they say is “about a young and confused friendship, the story of two people in close quarters observing each other and learning how to parse through strife and desire and sameness and difference. Our entire band wrote ‘Blood in the Vines’ collaboratively; it stemmed from a prompt to write a song in thirty minutes and we finished it in one sitting.”

YAEJI – “PONDEGGI” (FT E WATA)
Yaeji pays tribute to the Korean street snack beondegi (silkworm pupae!) on her delicious new single.

SPELLLING – “DESTINY ARRIVES”
“I wanted to have some moments on this album like on The Turning Wheel that honor my love of strings and the whimsical, romantic Stevie Wonder Secret Life of Plants-style synth theatrics,” SPELLLING says of the latest preview of her new album, Portrait of my Heart. “I’m really happy those elements of SPELLLING get to shine on this track. ‘Destiny Arrives’ kind of acts as this sweet moment of purity and optimism amongst the more punchy and aggressive songs on Portrait of My Heart.”

THE JESUS LIZARD – “I’M TIRED OF BEING YOUR MOTHER”
The Jesus Lizard are releasing an EP called Flux on Record Store Day that features their non-album singles from the Rack sessions, and here’s the final one.

ILLUMINATI HOTTIES – “777”
“I wrote and produced this song with the legendary Jay Som,” Sarah Tudzin says of her new illuminati hotties track. “Melina was generous with her spirit. She heard “vast” & “cathartic” and ran with me through overgrown fields to find it.”

YHWH NAILGUN – “ANIMAL DEATH ALREADY BREATHING”
Brooklyn experimentalists YHWH Nailgun have shared the latest taste of their anticipated debut LP 45 Pounds, and it’s another dark, percussive, adventurous rock song.

WEATHERDAY – “RIPPED APART BY HANDS”
Swedish emo/noise pop artist Weatherday shares an acoustic guitar-fueled dose of bedroom pop from their upcoming album Hornet Disaster.

TEI SHI – “BEST BE LEAVING”
Tei Shi has shared her first new music of the year, “Best Be Leaving,” which she says “is a song about letting go of someone you love. It’s about the lonely fact that sometimes relationships hit a place where the best thing you can do is walk away. Throughout life we’re all saying goodbye to or walking away from someone at any given moment…it’s part of navigating our lives and the world, and for me that was real in a few different, important relationships in my life when I wrote the song. ‘Best Be Leaving’ is kind of my bittersweet soundtrack to that realization.”

RHYS LANGSTON – “ATE THE TUNING FORK WHILE I TAXIED IN THE CREPUSCULAR” (ft. OPEN MIKE EAGLE)
LA rapper Rhys Langston is gearing up to release a new album called Pale Black Negative, and while we await details, he shared this groovy, jazzy rap song that features Open Mike Eagle.

GIRLPUPPY – “SINCE APRIL”
girlpuppy’s new album Sweetness arrives later this month, and she’s given us another early taste with “Since April.” “I wrote this song very early in my breakup when I was grieving ‘every single day,’” she says. “The original demo was so different from what Alex and I ended up creating, but I love this version so much more. It brings an attitude to the song that transforms it beyond just sad lyrics and chords.”

JANE PAKNIA – “SOLACE”
NYC’s Jane Paknia takes inspiration from hyperpop on “Solace,” the lead single from her Millions of Years of Longing EP that’s due out in June. “I devoted the song to SOPHIE and Alice Coltrane,” she says, “two artists that were in my heart and on my mind during the composition and who are a big part of the ‘you’ I was so effortfully stepping towards at that time. They were my ‘solace’, the combo of their names! I really intended for a crying in the club vibe in this one…to make something so sensitive and also pulsing felt like an accomplishment, an alchemizing of the discomfort I was experiencing. Lonely, unsure, but ‘The dream’s enough to have by my side.’”

COCOROSIE – “PUSHING DAISIES”
The latest single off CocoRosie’s new album Little Death Wishes was inspired by a billboard they saw that read “Women Drive Drunk Too.”

BABE RAINBOW – “AQUARIUM COWGIRL”
Aussie psych-pop Babe Rainbow will release new album Slipper imp and shakaerator on April 4 via King Gizzard’s p(doom) Records, and here’s a sugary appetizer.

ELTON JOHN & BRANDI CARLILE – “SWING FOR THE FENCES”
Elton John and Brandi Carlile’s new collaborative album, Who Believes in Angels?, arrives next month, and the latest single is “Swing for the Fences.” Brandi says it “was a little gem I took into the studio with me: I’m a gay woman, Elton’s a gay man and we both have families, and our dreams have come true. I was thinking, wouldn’t it be cool to write an anthem for young gay kids out there that calls them into a bigger, more elegant, more fabulous life. Just like ‘go, go! don’t let anything hold you back!’” Elton adds, “When we recorded ‘Swing For The Fences,’ it was the moment that crystallised where the album was going. It was hard to get to that point, but we knew we had to rise to the occasion and we all just felt this massive sense of joy and euphoria. After our initial difficulties, all the uncertainties started to dissipate when this song came together. It just sounded great.”

THE TAXPAYERS – “I AM ONE THOUSAND”
DIY art-punks The Taxpayers are gearing up to release new album Circle Breaker on March 21 via Ernest Jenning Record Co. Get a taste via the anthemic “I AM One Thousand.”

KING HÜSKY (MEM KVELERTAK) – “WISH I HAD A DOG”
When not shredding in Kvelertak, Vidar Landa makes strummy indiepop as King Hüsky and will release his self-titled debut under that name on May 9. “Wish I Had a Dog” is pretty charming.

ROSE CITY BAND – “HELLO SUNSHINE” (RELATIVELY CLEAN RIVERS COVER, FEAT. SANAE YAMADA)
Fellow music Blog Raven Sings the Blues has curated Hello Sunshine: A Tribute To Relatively Clean Rivers which features current jammy indie rockers saluting obscure ’70s band Relatively Clean Rivers. Among the artists on it are Ripley Johnson’s Rose City Band.

THE HARD QUARTET (MALKMUS / SWEENEY / KELLY / WHITE) – “LIES (SOMETHING YOU CAN DO)” / “COREOPSIS TRAIL”
The Hard Quartet – Emmett Kelly, Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney, and Jim White – are back with their first new music since releasing their great debut album in October, a two-track digital single that’s out now. “Lies (Something You Can Do)” is an Emmett Kelly-led number that was recorded in July, while “Coreopsis Trail” dates from the album sessions.

DAVID LOWERY – “I WROTE A SONG CALLED TAKE THE SKINHEADS BOWLING”
Camper Van Beethoven and Cracker bandleader David Lowery has announced a solo album, Fathers, Sons and Brothers, which will be out May 30 via Cooking Vinyl. He describes it as a musical autobiography that celebrates “his youth, family, friends and the highs and lows of his lengthy 40-year career in the music business.” This song is pretty self-explanatory.

FANTASY OF A BROKEN HEART – “WE CONFRONT THE DEMON IN MYSTERIOUS WAYS”

BILLY NOMATES – “THE TEST”
Billy Nomates, aka Bristol, UK-based singer-songwriter Tor Maries, has announced her third album, Metalhorse, which will be out May 16 via Invada (the label founded by Geoff Barrow of Portishead / Beak>). Like on 2023’s CACTI, she co-produced it with James Trevascus (Dirty Three, Nick Cave), but this is her first album made with a full band. The Pretenders-ish “The Test” is terrific.

RODEO BOYS – “ALL AMERICAN MAN”
Lansing, Michigan’s Rodeo Boys have announced a new album, Junior, produced by Tom May of The Menzingers and due out 4/25 via Don Giovanni. Read more about lead single “All American Man” here.

TURNOVER – “HUMMING” (ALTERNATIVE)
Turnover have announced a few different 10th anniversary editions of their game-changing 2015 sophomore album Peripheral Vision. The digital version includes a few alternate versions of PV-era songs, including this newly-released version of “Humming.” The vinyl version includes an exclusive BrooklynVegan “candied avocado” variant that’s limited to 500 and up for pre-order now.
