So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
KOYO – “TEN DIGITS AWAY” (DELUXE)
Koyo have announced a new three-song EP, Mile A Minute, including two reworked versions of previously-released songs. One is this acoustic version of non-album track “Ten Digits Away,” which vocalist Joey Chiaramonte calls “a true effort of tender love and care to celebrate a milestone track in a new light.” The EP comes out November 12 via Pure Noise

WICCA PHASE SPRINGS ETERNAL – “I KNOW THE RAVEN”
The first single from Wicca Phase’s upcoming Midnight at the Castle Moorlands EP was very much in the emo-trap vein, while new single “I Know the Raven” finds the former Tigers Jaw vocalist in lo-fi acoustic mode.

LAUREN MAYBERRY – “SOMETHING IN THE AIR”
CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry’s debut solo album is expected out later this year, and she’s given us another early taste with “Something in the Air,” which she calls “a song that really came out of nowhere,” saying, “I was in London finishing another song with my friend, co-writer and producer Dan McDougall. We were taking a break in the shared kitchen in the studio complex when a pretty iconic British musician, who I won’t throw under the bus here, came in and started making conversation about electricity, 5G and how it’s making us all sick. Dan and I went for a walk around the block before going back to the studio and were unpacking those theories, and why people want to believe them – and the chorus lyric just appeared.”

WEATHERBOX – “GOD’S HOUSE”
Having recently returned with the song “Manson Dust,” indie-emo eccentrics Weatherbox have now released another great new single.

GRUMPY – “FLOWER”
NYC-based artist Heaven Schmitt is releasing their new EP as Grumpy, Wolfed, on October 25 via Bayonet, and the latest single is the whimsical chamber pop track “Flower.” “Relationships aren’t forever, but love can be,” Heaven says. “Flower is about how, for me, at this stage of my life, love isn’t about building a permanent commitment to someone, it’s about nurturing a bond so that it may last a lifetime. In ‘Flower,’ I accept the end of a relationship with a peacefulness and gratitude that it happened at all. When I love someone, I know that love is bound to change shape, rather than dissolve, post romance.”

MITOCHONDRION – “THE PROTANTHROFUGE”
Canadian death metallers Mitochondrion have announced a new album, Vitriseptome, due November 1 via Profound Lore, and the first taste is the beastly “The Protanthrofuge.”

KASSIE KRUT – “RECKLESS”
Kassie Krut, featuring Kasra Kurt and Eve Alpert (formerly of Palm) and Matt Anderegg (Mothers, Body Meat) have signed to Fire Talk and shared their first single from the label, “Reckless,” which they say “is an exercise in restraint. We challenged ourselves to write a song with one bass note, one drum beat and just a couple simple chords. Sometimes we experience self-doubt so it was fun to create a tougher version of ourselves – someone who’s fast and mean – as well as playing w the misconception that Kassie is an individual and not a band. Also our project name is a little strange so we took the opportunity to spell it out for the listener.”

NAKED ROOMMATE – “BROKEN WHISPER”
Naked Roommate, the Oakland, CA band featuring Amber Sermeńo and Andy Jordan who used to play in The World, will release their second album, Pass the Loofah on October 25 via Trouble in Mind. The band cite Kid Creole & The Coconuts, Lizzy Mercier Descloux and ESG as influences and you can definitely hear that on “Broken Whisper.”

KATIE MALCO – “BABETTE” FT. SOAK
“I wrote ‘Babette’ after a phone call with someone, where I felt I didn’t say any of the right things, they couldn’t hear me (literally and metaphorically), and ultimately, when I hung up, I felt that I didn’t fit into their life,” Katie Malco says. “I think the phone call is an analogy for not always knowing how to fit into social situations. I’m either too quiet and reserved or too loud and boisterous, but I can’t help it. I guess my personality can be a little too extreme in one direction or the other, and when I wrote ‘Babette,’ I felt helpless to change it.” It’s the latest in a series of singles Malco is releasing with guest appearances from female and non-binary artists.

A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS – “FEAR OF TRANSFORMATION”
“Sometimes fear builds up and pins you in a cage,” A Place to Bury Strangers’ Oliver Ackermann says of his band’s new song. “A conversation occurs in my head where I have to convince myself to just fucking do something to break out of it.” New album Synthesizer is out this week.

SAMPHA – LAHAI DELUXE EDITION
Sampha has unveiled the deluxe edition of his fantastic 2023 album Lahai, which features three bonus tracks: “Dancing Circles 2.0,” “Re Entry,” and “Sensory Nector,” the latter two of which were only available on physical media previously.

LIELA MOSS – “DARK KITCHENS”
Duke Spirit singer Liela Moss is back with new solo album Transparent Eyeball next week and here’s one last preview. She says: “It’s another Nasty vibe flickering in the background of what we have built for ourselves! I felt like this ominous bassline invited me to give some lyrical space to this snapshot of convenience culture.”

ANDREW BIRD & MADISON CUNNINGHAM – “WITHOUT A LEG TO STAND ON” (BUCKINGHAM NICKS COVER)
Andrew Bird and Madison Cunningham’s full album Buckingham Nicks cover as Cunningham Bird comes out later this month, and they’ve given us another preview with their rendition of “Without a Leg To Stand On.”

THE FLESHTONES – “YOU SAY YOU DON’T MIND IT”
Super Rock pioneers The Fleshtones have shared another song from their upcoming album It’s Getting Late (…and More Songs About Werewolves). “After 48 years, we’re finally figuring out how to play our instruments and make records, but not to the extent that it’s boring,” says frontman Peter Zaremba. “It’s still exciting and a challenge.”

HILDEGARD – “CRUEL”
Helena Deland and Ouri have announced a new album as Hildegard, Jour 1596, due out on October 18 via Chivi Chivi. The first single is “Cruel,” which they say is a “dialogue between lovers or friends, where one seeks stability while the other is drawn towards disruption and change.”

NICOLAS MICHAUX – “PEACE OF MIND #2”
Belgian artist Nicolas Michaux puts a indie rock spin on chanson styles on his new album Vitalisme that’s out October 18. Check out “Peace of Mind #2.”

MOUNT EERIE – “I SAW ANOTHER BIRD”
Mount Eerie’s new album Night Palace is out next month, and he’s shared another track from it, the fuzzy, lo-fi “I Saw Another Bird.” “Behind the dry smirk of the title (sequelling out from A Crow Looked At Me) there are huge feelings that get opened,” Phil Elverum says. “We are ridiculous little people toiling on the ground, but the sublime darts around above us always. We can pause, chill, and resume the conversation with the big unknown. This song tells how, in a toe tapping way.”

BARTEES STRANGE – “SOBER”
Bartees Strange has announced his third album, Horror, which will be out February 14 via 4AD. While Bartees has a growing side career as a producer, he worked on this album with Jack Antonoff and Yves & Lawrence Rothman, who both contribute to this single.

CLAIRE ROUSAY – “III”
claire rousay announced her second release of the year, a new score to Viktor Kubal’s 1980 animated film The Bloody Lady, and shared the first preview, “iii,” which you can read more about here.

GEORDIE GREEP (BLACK MIDI) – “BLUES”
black midi‘s Geordie Greep releases his anticipated solo debut, The New Sound, this week, and he’s just shared another song from it as an appetizer.

WAXAHATCHEE – “MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING”

HEAVY MOSS (MEMS KING GIZZARD) – “STAR”
Australian group Heavy Moss were formed in 2022 by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard bassist Lucas Harwood and Sam Ingles, who had both spent time in early 2010s band Atolls, with the rest of the lineup rounded out with Kyle Tickell on vocals and guitars and Bec Goring on bass. With a synth-heavy, dreamy psychedelic sound, Heavy Moss put out a couple singles in 2023 and will release their debut album, Dead Slow, on November 22 via King Gizzard’s p(doom) records. This is the first single.

FRED THOMAS – “EMBANKMENT”
Fred Thomas (of Saturday Looks Good To Me) has announced a new solo album, Window in the Rhythm, and it comes out this Friday (10/4) via Polyvinyl. The nearly-nine-minute lead single “Embankment” is out now, and you can read about it here.
