So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SHANNON & THE CLAMS – “BEAN FIELDS”
Shannon & The Clams’ new album was written in the shadow of tragedy — Shannon Shaw’s fiance died just days before their wedding — but “Bean Fields” is a celebration of life.

JUDAS PRIEST – “THE SERPENT AND THE KING”
Judas Priest’s first album since 2018, Invincible Shield, is out next month, and they’ve shared another new single from it, “The Serpent and the King.” “We’ve talked about the sinner, we’ve talked about the saints, and we’ve talked about the painkiller but we’ve never talked about God and the devil getting into the universal boxing ring, so to speak,” Rob Halford told Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 about the song. “That’s the message. We’re talking about this age-old thing that’s been going on since the universe began. It’s God, it’s the devil. It’s black and white, it’s positive, negative, it’s good, it’s evil, it’s love, it’s hate. It’s all of these different textures wrapped up into this fierce non-stop, relentless track, ‘The Serpent and the King.'”

THE JESUS AND MARY CHAIN – “GIRL 71”
The JAMC don’t usually stray too far outside their usual sonic world but “Girl 71” is a little more raw, minimal and chunky with an unusual riff for them. It’s also a duet with Rachel Conte which scratches a little of that “Sometimes/Always” itch. New album Glasgow Eyes is out March 8.

BLEACHERS – “ME BEFORE YOU”
The final advance single from Bleachers’ new self-titled album is the jazzy, horn-laden “Me Before You.”

EN ATTENDANT ANA – “MAGICAL LIES” / “INTERLUDE” B/W “TEENY TINY TYCHE”
Parisians En Attendant Ana follow up last year’s fantastic Principia with this 7″ EP that’s out via the Sub Pop Singles Club. Both songs are terrific.

ELLIS – “WHAT I KNOW NOW”
no place that feels like, the new album from Ontario musician Ellis, is out in April, an the latest single is “what I know now.” “when I showed this song to a close friend before it was finished, she commented on how sad it was and I found that kind of funny because although I understand where she was coming from, this song doesn’t feel sad to me,” Ellis says. “It was so cathartic to write and the cheekiest I have ever allowed myself to be. Ultimately, ‘what I know now’ is a diss track to the music industry, but even though the verses are very specific to my own experience, I think the chorus serves as this very universal refrain – that hindsight can really be such a bitch.”

THE REDS, PINKS & PURPLES – “LEARNING TO LOVE A BAND”
“’Learning to Love a Band’ is about that blissful moment when you realize you truly love and understand a band’s music, but it’s also about being in a band, and that honeymoon phase you find yourself in which inevitably ends,” says RPPs main man Glenn Donaldson. “I love music, and I love the people I have played music with over the years (mostly).” New album Unwishing Well is out April 12.

KATIE PRUITT – “ALL MY FRIENDS”
Katie Pruitt’s new album Mantras is out in April, and she’s given us another early taste with “All My Friends,” which isn’t an LCD Soundsystem cover. “‘All My Friends’ is inspired by a Christian Wiman poem about getting older and witnessing your friends change their beliefs in search for themselves,” she says. “Some of their beliefs you may not agree with but if it makes them a kinder, happier and more loving person, then what’s the harm?”

THE HIGH LLAMAS – “SISTERS FRIENDS” (FEAT. RAE MORRIS)
Here’s another glitchy teenage symphony from god courtesy The High Llamas. This one is a duet with Rae Morris. “This song traces a homeless man and his dog from London to The Isle of White off the UK southern coast,” frontman Sean O’Hagan notes. “The man makes a living playing a Japanese instrument called a Shakuhachi.”

NORAH JONES – “STARING AT THE WALL”
“This is one of my favorites,” Norah Jones says of the latest single from her new album, Visions. “It was kind of a left turn from everything else on the album. It’s the first time I played guitar with Leon [Michels], we were just trying to come up with something different. I got on guitar and he got on drums and it just took off. It’s just so fun to play music sometimes, and I feel like on this album there were a lot of those times. He had a really cool guitar sound going for me so it just felt good.”

MARK KNOPFLER – “WATCH ME GONE”
Former Dire Straits bandleader Mark Knopfler has announced new album One Deep River which will be out April 12 via British Grove / Blue Note. “The dreams of a teenage kid…to me it’s always been the fuel that keeps you going,” Knopfler says of the album’s first single. “That’s why I’ll still cross the street to look at a window of guitars—it’s just that bit of your teen years that it reminds you of, so you try to keep it alive. I remember going to City Hall seeing Van Morrison or Bob Dylan, wishing I was doing that. Statistically what are the odds of making it as an act? But I was a comically driven young person, who was determined to make it.”

CAREER WOMAN – “NEMO” FT. HANNAH TELLE
Melody Caudill’s new single as Career Woman, “Nemo,” features Hannah Telle, who voices Max Caulflied in the video game Life is Strange. “Life is Strange is a huge part of my identity,” Melody says. “I first played it in middle school and instantly fell in love with the world and characters, especially Max Caulfield. She was the first character I really identified with, especially how she grew from an introverted photographer unable to put herself out there to someone with great confidence and the ability to make decisions for herself. I’ve always struggled with confidence, and the game addressed that in a way that also connected to my artistic tastes, queerness, and love for sci-fi and the idea of time travel/multiple realities. Hannah Telle is not only the voice actor of Max, but an amazing musician that shares the same kinship with Max—so by extension I’ve always felt a kinship with her in real life. I’ve been a fan of Hannah for years now, so when I reached out to her about singing a verse in ‘Nemo’ and she said yes, there were a lot of feelings there. The recording process was just as magical, if not more, than I thought it would be, and we shared a tearful moment talking about the game. I’ve always made references to LiS in my songs—like in Balcony (‘taking pictures silently’) and Not a Betty (‘I’m a Kate’), so to collaborate with someone connected to the universe in such an intimate way was life changing for me. In the song, Hannah sings a verse where she ‘plays’ my older self, following the lines where I sang about my past. It only felt appropriate to connect us in this way, since we share so much of our identity. I hope the emotional connection is felt through the song, because we both poured so much of ourselves into it.”

HAHA SAME (FRANKIE COSMOS / STOLEN JARS) – “GUESS WHAT TO DO” B/W “CALLING IT A NIGHT”
haha same is the newish project from Greta Kline of Frankie Cosmos and Cody Fitzgerald of Stolen Jars and here’s two songs via the Sub Pop Singles Club. “A word that kept coming up when we talked about collaborating was ‘easy’,” says Kline, “we bounced sonic ideas around and got excited about little details. Sometimes Cody would be laying down a part in the song and I’d be sitting on the floor with his dog Moon, writing lyrics. Then we kind of unfolded the stories behind the songs together, asking questions and clarifying the meanings behind each line.”

BAT FOR LASHES – “THE DREAM OF DELPHI”
“Motherhood I thought would take me away from my art, but it opened up this massive world,” Natasha Khan says of her sixth Bat for Lashes album that’s out in May. This is the title track.

Kings of Leon announced a new album, Can We Please Have Fun, and shared the first single, which you can read morea bout here.

ATOMIC LIFE (THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN) – “HIT ME FIRST”
In addition to playing in The Dillinger Escape Plan (who are reunited) and thoughtcrimes, Billy Rymer also drums in the new alt-rock band Atomic Life. Adea Frances sings, and the band also includes thoughtcrimes member Cody Hosza (who’s also currently Glassjaw’s touring bassist). They have a self-titled EP on the way, which will include “Hit Me First.”

ADEKUNLE GOLD – “THE LIFE I CHOSE”
Nigerian singer Adekunle Gold returns with more dancefloor-moving Afrobeats.

BAD BLOOMS – “QUICKSAND”
Bad Blooms is a band led by Liz Fackelman, who also plays trombone and sings in NJ ska/post-hardcore band The Best of the Worst. Their new EP Goodbye comes out March 1 via Choke Artist, and new single “Quicksand” is a jazzy indie pop song that definitely isn’t ska but does have some great horns.

Poisoned Seeds are a new-ish Vancouver hardcore band fronted by Go It Alone guitarist Brad Collis that also features members of Hollow Ground, Day Of Mourning, and Blue Monday. They’re releasing their S/T debut LP on 3/1 via WAR Records, and you can read about new single “Drenched” here.

Rui Gabriel is one half of duo Lawn, with whom he’s made three albums, but he’s just announced his signing to Carpark as a solo artist. With that news, he’s released his debut solo single, “Target,” a low key, warmly melodic track featuring backing vocals from Kate Teague.
