So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE KILLERS – “BRIGHT LIGHTS”
The Killers have been rolling out new singles over the past couple years, and today we get another arena heartland anthem called “Bright Lights.”

DAVID GILMOUR – “DARK AND VELVET NIGHTS”
David Gilmour’s first solo album in nine years, Luck and Strange, is out next month, and he’s given us another early taste with “Dark and Velvet Nights.” “The music sprang out one day,” he says. “It was so exciting to have come across this groove. Polly had given me a beautiful poem for our wedding anniversary, which was sitting on the desk right next to me, so I picked it up and sang it on the track, to hear what it would sound like with words. I played it to Polly, and she said, ‘Lovely, great, I’ll need fiddle with it a bit. So she added a couple of verses, and there it was – very serendipitous.'”

SNOW PATROL – “ALL”
Snow Patrol will release new album The Forest Is The Path on September 13 via Polydor, and here’s the bombastic ballad “All.”

FLOWER FACE – “MANIAC”
Montreal singer-songwriter Flower Face has a new album, Girl Prometheus, due out on November 1 via Nettwerk, and the last single is “Maniac,” a hushed folk track. “It’s very tongue-in-cheek,” Ruby McKinnon says. “I wrote it as this upbeat little indie pop song that contrasts the uncomfortable honesty of the lyrics. Like how sometimes you have to laugh so you don’t scream and cry. It’s me admitting a lot of unpleasant truths about myself, laying it all out on the table and saying yeah, I suck in a lot of ways, but I can acknowledge and accept that, which is not the case for a lot of people.”

JAMILA WOODS – “TEACH ME” (prod. ODDCOUPLE)
Jamila Woods has released a new single that Jamila wrote after receiving from the Portal Project to create a song about climate justice. All proceeds of the song will be donated to the Sudanese American Physician’s Association’s “Sudan Food Donation Program,” “which is dedicated to addressing the critical issue of food insecurity, particularly in the conflict-affected regions of Sudan.”

EDDIE VEDDER – “ROOM AT THE TOP” (TOM PETTY COVER)
Pearl Jam vocalist Eddie Vedder’s new cover of Tom Petty’s “Room at the Top” is from the soundtrack to new Apple TV+ series Bad Monkey.

PHANTOGRAM – “HAPPY AGAIN”
Ahead of their tour with Kings of Leon, Phantogram have unleashed the anthemic alt-pop song “Happy Again.”

LONDON GRAMMAR – “FAKEST BITCH”
“’Fakest Bitch’ is self-explanatory to be honest,” London Grammar’s Hannah Reid says. “Everybody has had someone, at some point in their life, that’s made them feel that way, but what I really like about it is that it’s kind of a bit shocking. For me anyway, just how direct the negativity is but it is again about reflecting on those parts of yourself that are a bit ugly too and looking at yourself in the mirror and learning and growing from that. I wanted to again talk about something quite negative but the lyrics in the verse are quite poetic and beautiful.” It’s from their new album The Greatest Love.

POWERS PLEASANT – “RUMBLE” (ft. JOEY BADA$$)
Pro Era producer/DJ Powers Pleasant has a new album in the works, and it’ll include this booming new single with fellow Pro Era member Joey Bada$$.

GILLIAN WELCH & DAVID RAWLINGS – “HASHTAG”
Gillian Welch and David Rawlings’ 10th album together, Woodland, is out later this month, and they’ve shared another single from it, “Hashtag.” “We wrote Hashtag for Guy Clark,” Welch says. “Guy taught us what it was like on the road. He took us out opening for him all over the states, to our first shows in Texas, Oklahoma, California, and South Carolina. He showed us the parallel universe of the troubadour.”

CIARA – “RUN IT UP”
Ciara has dropped a new song in the midst of her tour with Missy Elliott.

FUTUREBIRDS – “EASY COMPANY” FT. WAXAHATCHEE
Futurebirds released their new album Easy Company, and it includes the rootsy “Easy Company,” featuring vocals from Waxahatchee’s Katie Crutchfield.

BAY FACTION – “DRIVE HOME”
Bay Faction are back with the snappy indie pop of “Drive Home,” their first song in years.

RA RA RIOT – “FRIENDLY NEIGHBOR”
Ra Ra Riot follow their first new music in five years, May’s “The Wish,” with a second new single, “Friendly Neighbor.” “I wrote the beginning of the lyrics one night while my neighbors were having a party,” Wes Miles says. “But it sort of more broadly turned into something about alienation, and how it feels like basic social interactions are breaking down because of the messed-up rewards of the internet. I felt like the walls we shared — it wouldn’t have mattered if they were three inches or three miles thick.”

KUBLAI KHAN TX – “SUPREME RULER”
Kublai Khan TX will release their new LP Exhibition of Prowess on September 20 via Rise, and its new single is a bludgeoning metalcore song that clocks in at less than one minute.

40 WATT SUN – “ASTORIA”
40 Watt Sun’s new album Little Weight comes out September 6 via Cappio Records, and his glacial-paced rock is in fine form on new single “Astoria.”

SINCERE ENGINEER – “I HATE MYSELF” (88 FINGERS LOUIE COVER)
Chicago punks Sincere Engineers contribute an acoustic cover of hometown heroes 88 Fingers Louie’s “I Hate Myself” for Hopeless Records’ 30th anniversary Hopelessly Devoted To You covers series.

Bruiser Wolf drops off a characteristically eccentric rap song with “Rope Chain.”

38 SPESH – “SPESHAL METHODS” (ft. METHOD MAN & TI-LAR)
Boom bap devotee 38 Spesh will release Mother & Gun next week (8/16), and its new single features one of his most legendary forebears, Method Man.

MILO AUKERMAN (DESCENDENTS) & PUNK ROCK KARAOKE – “PAY TO CUM” (BAD BRAINS COVER)
Descendents’ Milo Aukerman joins Punk Rock Karaoke (members of Circle Jerks/Bad Religion, Dickies, Pennywise, and Goldfinger) for the Bad Brains classic “Pay To Cum,” plus a Dickies song. Read more here.

GREEN DAY – AMERICAN IDIOT 20th ANNIVERSARY TRACKS
Green Day announced a 20th anniversary American Idiot box set, and they released a few tracks from it: the “Holiday / Boulevard of Broken Dreams” demo, “Minority” live at Irving Plaza in 2004, and the B-side “Favorite Son.” Read more here.
