So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
RUSTIE – “BLACK ICE MUDRA”
Rustie has been silent for a long time, but he just dropped his first new song in nearly a decade, and it finds his bright, artful, EDM maximalism in fine form.

ELA MINUS – “COMBAT”
Ela Minus is back with her first new music in four years, a single that inhabits a liminal space and is kinda in Enya’s orbit. “The foundation of ‘COMBAT’ comes from a recorded performance I did a few years ago,” Ela says. “It was then that I improvised the chord progression that became the soul of the song. Jesse Scheinin did a beautiful performance of the woodwinds I wrote for it.” Minus adds, “It’s about the intensity of feelings and emotions that it hopefully evokes. You come out the other end of the struggle stronger. I hope the music speaks for itself.”

CASSANDRA JENKINS – “PETCO”
Cassandra Jenkins says new single “Petco” is “about looking for connection & coming up a little short. Writing from a pointedly angsty and existential place allowed me to be more playful with songwriting. I needed a space to explore the lizard brain, and deep down the song stems from the sincere belief that we are wired, on the most basic instinctual level, to love and to be loved.” This one’s got distinct ’90s alt-rock vibes and is from her upcoming album My Light, My Destroyer.

FRIKO – “WEIRD FISHES/ARPEGGI” (RADIOHEAD COVER)
Following the release of their great debut album, Where we’ve been, Where we go from here in February, Friko have shared a take on Radiohead’s “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi,” a song they’ve been playing live.

HALSEY – “THE END”
Halsey has a new album on the way, and first single “The End” finds her in sad singer/songwriter mode, and Alex G has a co-production credit.

IAN SWEET & PORRIDGE RADIO – “EVERYONE’S A SUPERSTAR”
Ian Sweet and Porridge Radio teamed up for a new collaborative single for Abbey Road Studios’ Amplify x Pitchfork London series. “We all went into this day with no expectations but also wide eyes and a lot of excitement!,” IAN SWEET says. “To be at Abbey Road was a dream, and to be reunited with Porridge Radio was also a dream, so it was so fun to see our old friends again in a totally new context and to make something special together. We all clicked in a really magical way right off the bat. Everyone sort of took their places and fit in where they had to. We came out of it with something I feel so proud of, and something I never knew would exist. Writing with Dana and seeing her process as a lyricist was really enlightening as well. It had been a long time since I’d written lyrics with someone else…I was excited to see where her mind went and how our two styles found one unique voice together.” Porridge Radio adds, “It was amazing to come into a room of 7 musicians with absolutely no idea what was going to happen and lock-in together to write and record a song that we actually all love in one day. Creatively it was so exciting and such a fun process and we’re so proud of what we made.”

FLOATING POINTS – “DEL ORO”
Floating Points drops a glistening, thumping dance track with “Del Oro.”

REDCAR – “THAT’S US / WILD COMBINATION” (ARTHUR RUSSELL COVER)
Redcar, formerly Christine and the Queens, covered Arthur Russell at a recent tribute event at London’s Barbican, and he’s now shared a studio version of the cover.

STAND STILL – “WE KNOW THE SCORE” (ft. PAIN OF TRUTH)
Long Island Movielife/Silent Majority acolytes Stand Still have shared another song from their upcoming debut LP Steps Ascending, and this one features LIHC band Pain of Truth.

KATE DAVIS – “DDR”
Kate Davis’ new single follows April’s “Cunty Bang Bang.” “Anyone remember the Dance Dance Revolution home mat?” she says. “”he particular crunch under the various foot force of neighbor kids. The impeccable song list. I go back to these times when life gets real.”

CRYPT SERMON – “THUNDER (PERFECT MIND)”
Philly doomers have shared another rifftastic howler from their upcoming LP The Stygian Rose.

HACHIKU – “TIME WASTED WORRYING”
Anika Ostendorf is back with her first music as Hachiku since her 2021 collaboration with Jen Cloher, bubbly indie rock track “Time Wasted Worrying.” “I like to envision them as a choir of reassuring angels behind me,” Ostendorf says, adding, “When I was around five, my grandmother told me: ‘If you don’t have a thought in your mind, you’ll die.’ I internalised this, fearing sudden death, and don’t think I have stopped thinking since. I have now learned the value of a calm and quiet mind and recognised that I indeed spend a lot of wasted time worrying. This song is like a little reminder to myself to take care of myself, be kind and self-compassionate and take it easy! And perhaps my grandmother is watching from above, her mind at ease, knowing that things unfold as they should, whether we worry or not.”

LIAM BENZVI – “DUST”
Strange Names’ Liam Benzvi has announced a new solo album, …And His Splash Band, due September 27 via Fat Possum. It features songs with Blood Orange, SSION, and Ren G, and lead single “Dust” finds him in woozy alt-rock territory.

ANNABEL – “SMALL VICTORIES”
Annabel’s first new album in nine years, Worldviews, is out next week, and they’ve given us a final early taste with “Small Victories.” Andy Hendricks told FLOOD Magazine that ““It’s about the struggle of always seeking validation and realizing that temporary comfort is a dead end. Basically, I’m trying to give less of a fuck, even though I know part of me still will.”

I LOVE YOUR LIFESTYLE – “PLOT TWIST”
Swedish emo band I Love Your Lifestyle have announced a new album, Summerland (Torpa Or Nothing), due 8/2 via Counter Intuitive. The first single is also the closing track, an explosively catchy emo anthem called “Plot Twist.”

SUSS – “OVERSTORY”
Ambient country vets SUSS release their new album, Birds & Beasts, later this month, and the latest single is the beautiful “Overstory.”

KNITTING – “SPIRIT GUM”
Montreal band knitting include members who’ve played in Julie Doiron, Nap Eyes, Lonely Parade and other and have signed to Mint Records for their debut album, Some Kind of Heaven, that will be out September 6. New single “Spirit Gum” is sticky stuff and the video is pretty endearing.

FINE – “BIG MUZZY”
Fine’s debut LP Rocky Top Ballads, is out this Friday, and she’s shared the ethereal “Big Muzzy.” “Much of the ideas on the record were created in passing,” she says. “I’ve been sort of training myself, using different methods, to access a state of play and intuition more easily. The guitar riff on ‘Big Muzzy’ is a sample played on a computer keyboard — made in a state of play.”

HARMONY – “MISS AMERICA”
Harmony Tividad (formerly of Girlpool) wrote and produced her new single with Wyatt Bernard. It follows April’s “Thot Daughter.”

MERCURY REV – “PATTERNS”
Mercury Rev have announced a new album, Born Horses, which will be out September 6 via Bella Union. It’s their first album of new, original material since 2015’s The Light in You. Check out the spectral first single.

JAMIE XX – “TREAT EACH OTHER RIGHT”
Jamie xx announced the follow-up to 2015’s In Colour, and shared a new single, which you can read more about here.

QUIVERS – “OYSTER CUTS”
Australian band Quivers will release their first album for Merge, Oyster Cuts, in August, and they’ve just shared its lovely title track.

LOS BITCHOS – “DON’T CHANGE”
London band Los Bitchos have announced their second album, Talkie Talkie, which will be out August 30 via City Slang. They’ve added a decidedly ’80s patina to their world-travelling instrumental sound with help from producer Oli Barton-Wood (Wet Leg, Nilüfer Yanya) as you can hear on “Don’t Change.”
