So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SPEED – “THE FIRST TEST”
Speed have shared the second taste of Only One Mode, and it’s a moshy hardcore anthem with a flute-filled breakdown. Should go without saying, but this shit rules. Check it out and pick up our black & white vinyl variant.

KATY KIRBY – “HEADLIGHTS”
Katy Kirby announced a deluxe edition of her 2024 album Blue Raspberry, and shared one of two bonus tracks that will appear on it. “‘Headlights’ isn’t as open-hearted as any of the songs that ended up on Blue Raspberry,” Katy says. “We could call it an ode to the cumulative, low-level suffering that accompanies all human life. Or we could just say that it’s kind of a bratty little ballad about being fucking tired, you know?”

COWBOY BOY – “GREAT SCOTT”
Cowboy Boy will release a new album, Lipstick On A Pig, on August 2 via Get Better Records, and new single “Great Scott” is a catchy indie-punk song named after the beloved Allston, MA venue that closed during the pandemic.

THE FELICE BROTHERS – “FLOWERS BY THE ROADSIDE”
“This song was written one especially bleak winter day as a means to teleport to summer,” Ian Felice says. “Midway through the first and only take of the song James walked across the room, picked up a toy glockenspiel and plucked out a melody that had occurred to him. It was recorded in 2018 in our old cinderblock studio outside of Hudson, NY.” It’s from The Felice Brothers’ new album, Valley of Abandoned Songs.

JOHN GLACIER – “STEADY AS I AM”
John Glacier will release the Duppy Gun EP on June 20 via Young, and new single “Steady As I Am” finds her half-speaking, half-rapping over some intoxicating production.

CHARLY BLISS – “CALLING YOU OUT”
Charly Bliss’ third album, FOREVER, is out in August, and after announcing a tour yesterday, they’ve shared the second single, “Calling You Out.” “Falling in love with someone wonderful, I didn’t know how to not fall into the same bullshit that was part of all my previous relationships – namely jealousy,” Eva Hendricks says. “I wasted a lot of time at the beginning trying to poke holes, to see if it was all for real. I think I was trying to protect myself, I’ll find the catch before the catch finds me! But there was no catch.”

VEEZE – “POP YO SHIT”
Detroit rapper Veeze’s first single of 2024 is the druggy-sounding “Pop Yo Shit.”

NOURISHED BY TIME – “I GUESS I GOT MY ANSWER”
Scenic Route’s new Road Less Travelled compilation, which is out on June 14, features a new track from Nourished by Time. It follows his 2024 EP Catching Chickens.

HIATUS KAIYOTE – “LOVE HEART CHEAT CODE”
Hiatus Kaiyote have shared the syrupy, soulful title track of Love Heart Cheat Code.

MAITA – “I USED TO FEEL DIFFERENT”
MAITA’s new album want comes out in July, and the second single is “i used to feel different.” “The upbeat song of the record, it explores the wistful desire to return to a state of wonderment we had when we were younger,” bandleader Maria Maita-Keppeler says. “For me, personally, I remember a time of creative abundance, freed from the need to work and think about money. Modern adult life can feel so constricting and regimented, and I romanticize the idea of a world of art, love, and ease.”

200 STAB WOUNDS – “RIDE THE FLATLINE” (ft. CODE ORANGE’S JAMI MORGAN)
Cleveland death metallers 200 Stab Wounds have shared a brutal new single from their upcoming sophomore album Manual Manic Procedures, and they get an assist from Code Orange vocalist Jami Morgan on this one.

SNOW PATROL – “THE BEGINNING”
Snow Patrol will release their eighth album (and first in six years), The Forest Is The Path, on September 13 via Republic. The first single is the sweeping, cinematic “The Beginning.”

LOLA YOUNG – “MESSY”
UK artist Lola Young has followed up a string of singles (including the viral “Conceited”) by announcing her new album, This Wasn’t Meant For You Anyway, due June 21 via Island. It’ll include her five recent singles and the just-released “Messy.”

BRONSKI BEAT – SMALLTOWN BOY (ABSOLUTE. REWORK)
Bronski Beat’s iconic queer synthpop anthem “Smalltown Boy” was released 40 years ago this week and a new reissue of the single is on the way to celebrate. That will include this new remix by ABSOLUTE. which comes with a remix of the original, also iconic, music video.

WASHED OUT – “RUNNING AWAY”
“Starting work on a new album often means a lot of failed experiments,” says Washed Out’s Ernest Greene. “Basically, I’m just waiting around until I stumble into something new that I can build an album concept around. For Notes From A Quiet Life, that song was ‘Running Away.’ It had all of the ingredients that ended up shaping the aesthetic for the album: a more minimal arrangement, sonic clarity, and more of an emphasis on classic songwriting technique.”

WILD YAKS – “FORTUNE TELLER”
Brooklyn indie stalwarts Wild Yaks will release new album Monumental Deeds on June 21 and here’s the latest single. “Fortune Teller is about realizing I wasn’t a science-based reasonable person but a broken simp reading several horoscopes a day and obsessed with CoStar because I was willing to use ‘magic’ or any means to try and predict my romantic fate or understand what might be going on in the mind of the narcissist vampire that was using me for supply and was lying to me and manipulating me and was never gonna love me because they were incapable of love or compassion or empathy,” says frontman Rob Byrn.

WE ARE WOLVES – “TRANSITION”
Long-running Montreal band We Are Wolves will release their first album in eight years this November and features contributions from ontributions from A Place To Bury Strangers’ Oliver Ackermann and Joseph Yarmush of SUUNS. Here’s the first single. “‘Transition’ is about the exaggerated surplus of information we’re constantly confronted with,” say the band. “By trying to navigate through this flow and overstimulation, we find ourselves completely lost, polarized, and dissociated from reality. We’re continually in a state of transition, without ever having a grip or foundation to rely on.”

PREFUSE 73 – “VAST WILDLIFE POISON”
“I always have a movie or some random visuals playing on mute behind me in the studio,” says Prefuse 73 of the creative process for new album New Strategies for Modern Crime Vol. 2. “It could be horror from any era or just an old Fellini film; they tend to be playing on a loop. I will turn around from the mixing board and just stare at the images to get inspired.”

Arizona group Belaganas, who you may have seen open for Kneecap on tour, have just shared new single “Let It Burn” that’s out now on PIAS. If you like Kneecap or Viagra Boys, this might be for you.

ABSTRACT CRIMEWAVE (PETER BJORN AND JOHN, CAESARS) – “THE GAMBLER” FT. LYKKE LI
Abstract Crimewave, the Swedish superduo of Björn Yttling (Peter Bjorn and John) and Joakim Åhlund (Teddybears, Caesars), have announced new album The Longest Night that will be out in October. It features guest appearances from Chryssie Hynde, Dungen, and on this poppy first single, Lykke Li.

HABIBI – “IN MY DREAMS”
Habibi’s new album Dreamachine is out tomorrow and here’s one last appetizer before you can dig into the whole thing. “This song encapsulates the mood of the album: a relentless longing, like something that feels out of reach, but that we are deeply connected to,” says the band’s Lenny Lynch. “That emotion is steering the song, as it unfolds like an inward dive into the pulp of Dreamachine.”

STEVE EARLE – “I AIN’T EVER SATISFIED” (ACOUSTIC & LIVE)
Steve Earle has announced a new live album, Alone Again, which will be out July 12 via Howe Sound Records/Missing Piece Records. The album features 15 songs from his 2023 acoustic tour and you can listen to “I Ain’t Ever Satisfied” (originally on his 1987 album Exit 0)
