So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SMOTE – “THE OPINION OF THE LAMB PT. 1”
UK psych band Smote will relaese new double album A Grand Stream on August 23 via Rocket Recordings. Here’s an edit of the first single. “This is Smote’s take on a party song,” says Smote’s Daniel Foggin, “a quasi-dance track so to speak. The monomania is so prevalent here and pushed as hard as it possibly can be.”

KISSISSIPPI – “LAST TIME”
Kississippi announced a new EP, damned if i do it for you, due out on July 26, and shared the first single, the sparkling ’80s pop-inspired “Last Time.” “As I took the stage with only a drum machine and mic, it hit me that I was essentially doing karaoke to these songs about unrequited love, knowing that the person I wrote them about was in the next room with someone else.” Kississippi says. “‘Last Time’ is about realizing someone you love has moved on before you know it, and the irony of having to do it live, in front of an audience.”

GOAT GIRL – “WORDS FELL OUT”
Goat Girl’s third album Below the Waste is out this week and here’s one last early preview, a song Lottie Pendlebury wrote while watching drummer Rosy Boyd struggle with addition. “The song is about the helplessness felt amongst our friends as we attempted to nurture Rosy, a time that felt really hard to find words for,” Lottie Says. “I wrote it to sort through the emotions that are pushed aside in the midst of dealing with a crisis. The opening line ‘I only want the best for you’ is the central theme, not only of the song but also our friendship.”

MAXIM LUDWIG – “MERCURY AVENUE” FT. ANGEL OLSEN
Los Angeles artist Maxim Ludwig has shared a new collaboration with Angel Olsen, his previous collaborator and soon-to-be tourmate, “Mercury Avenue.” “It’s about not going toward darkness, being brought back to life and living through love,” Ludwig says.

GUIDED BY VOICES – “FICTIONAL ENVIRONMENT DREAM”
Guided by Voices release their 40th album, Strut of Kings, at the end of June, and here’s the latest single. “Fictional Environment Dream” is another anthemic Bob Pollard earworm that swings for the fences and connects. How does he do it again and again and again?

BEABADOOBEE – “COMING HOME”
beabadoobee’s new album This Is How Tomorrow Moves is out in August, and she’s given us another early taste with “Coming Home.” ““I wrote it in a hotel room in LA when I was away from my boyfriend, my loved ones, my two cats,” she says. “It opens with all the little mundane things like doing the dishes, that I miss because I’m always away. Really, it’s just a cute little love song with a weird non-existent structure.”

ERIN RAE – “ON HER SIDE”
Singer/songwriter Erin Rae has shared “On Her Side,” a song that began its life when Erin recorded it on a four-track in her old apartment in 2021, and then later brought in additional musicians to flesh it out with 12-string, organ, and bass. It’s a raw, somber, and lovely folk song.

RAVEENA – “JUNEBUG” FT. JPEGMAFIA
Raveena’s new album Where the Butterflies Go in the Rain comes out later this month, and JPEGMAFIA features on the new single, “Junebug.” “I love inviting people with vastly different sonic landscapes to my music,” Raveena says. “To me, it is proof of our oneness and divine inter-connectedness. JPEGMAFIA brought the perfect energy to this summertime song – and I think we both aligned on this song with our mutual love for the tropics, with me being from India and Peggy from Jamaica.”

RAY LAMONTAGNE – “STEP INTO YOUR POWER”
Ray LaMontagne’s new album Long Way Home comes out on August 16, and he’s just shared its soulful new single “Step Into Your Power.”

PEGG – “GERONIMO” FT. FUSILIER
Pegg, the project of Xander Duell, have announced their debut self-titled album, due out on August 23 via IS NOT MUSIC. Bartees Strange produced the album, and the first single is “Geronimo,” featuring Fusilier. “I went into this project seeking inspiration,” Duell says. “I found an imposing composer to collaborate with named Jon Bap aka Maurice II, and those explorations led to inspiration as the circle expanded. Some brilliant collaborators help explode / expand this record – Bartees Strange, Blake Fusilier, Teeny Lieberson, Buz Donald. I’m motivated by an internal guiding voice, but adding the genius of others allowed us to reach higher and expand further. We really tried to reach heaven from the River Church.”

MAASSAI – “NEVER ENDING THINK PIECE”
Brooklyn abstract rapper maassai will release DEC0N$TRUCT!0N, a collection of “unmixed/unmastered songs i’ve made over the last 3 years that i’ve finally decided to let go,” this Sunday (6/9). The first song released is the clattering, 72-second “Never Ending Think Piece.”

HERIOT – “FOUL VOID”
UK futuristic metalcore band Heriot have announced their debut album, Devoured by the Mouth of Hell, and they’ve also shared new single “Foul Void.” Read more here.

IRA GLASS – “NANCY’S HELL”
After a pair of self-recorded demo EPs, Chicago band ira glass have unveiled their debut studio single, “nancy’s hell,” a rousing punk song that’s out via Fire Talk.

FAX GANG & PARANNOUL – “LULLABY FOR A MEMORY”
Discord-born, multi-continental cloud rap collective Fax Gang and South Korean shoegazer Parannoul have announced a collaborative album, Scattersun, and they’ve shared lead single “Lullaby For A Memory.” Read more here.

DENZEL CURRY – “HOT ONE” (ft. TIACORINE & A$AP FERG)
Denzel Curry has announced King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2, a sequel to the underground mixtape he put out all the way back in 2012. It features TiaCorine and A$AP Ferg on lead single “Hot One,” and other guests on the album include A$AP Rocky, 2 Chainz, Maxo Kream, Mike Dimes, and more. CONFIDENCE MAN – “I CAN’T LOSE YOU”
Confidence Man announced their new album today which they say was influenced by ’90s rave which you can hear on first single “I Can’t Lose You.” The video has the duo flying in a helicopter naked over London. (No green screens, they really did it.)

Illuminati Hotties announced her new album, POWER, and shared the second single, which you can read more about here.

SUUNS – “THE BREAKS”
Montreal’s SUUNS have announced a new album, The Breaks, which will be out September 6 via Joyful Noise. It finds them in ethereal dreampop territory crafted from loops, synths and samples, as you can hear on the album’s euphoric title track.

W.I.T.C.H. – “AIN’T NOBODY” (CHAKA KHAN COVER)
“I personally was inspired by Chaka Khan’s music in the ‘80s,” says W.I.T.C.H.’s Patrick Mwondela. “This project took me back to W.I.T.C.H.’s Disco days when we produced the albums ‘Moving On’ and ‘Kuomboka’. Of all of Chaka Khan’s songs, we chose ‘Ain’t Nobody’ as it’s such an iconic dance floor filler!”

BLEACHERS – “PRISONERS OF PARADISE” (JESSE MALIN COVER)

CHRYSTABELL & DAVID LYNCH – “SUBLIME ETERNAL LOVE”
Last week David Lynch got fans excited, promising “something for you to see and hear.” Would it be a new movie? A new TV series? Well, it turns out he was talking about the first single and video for the new album by he and Chrystabell, titled Cellophane Memories, that will be out August 2 via Sacred Bones. Lynch directed the video for “Sublime Eternal Love.”

BAR ITALIA – “THE ONLY CONSCIOUS BEING IN THE UNIVERSE”
The lead track on bar italia’s new EP, “The only conscious being in the universe,” is the highest fidelity song from the London trio we’ve heard yet, with the closest they’ve come to traditional pop structure as well.
