So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
TUNDE ADEBIMPE – “SOMEBODY NEW”
Here’s the last preview of TV on the Radio frontman Tunde Adebimpe’s debut solo album before the whole thing drops on Friday. “I’m positive I fell asleep on a couch with the TV on sometime in 1982 and fever dreamt this exact thing,” Tunde says of the video for “Somebody New” which he directed and plays out like an episode of American Bandstand or Soul Train.

ADULT MOM – “BENADRYL”
“Benadryl is a song about going through chemotherapy when I first got diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021,” Stevie Knipe says of the latest single off their new album Adult Mom, Natural Causes. “I wanted the writing and production to reflect the distinct isolation that comes from cancer treatment and illness, and how little by little, things start to feel a little bit brighter, and then dark again.”

THE DANDY WARHOLS – “I WILL NEVER STOP LOVING YOU” FT DEBBIE HARRY (A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS REMIX)
The Dandy Warhols are releasing the ROCK REMAKER EP on May 15 which feature remixes of songs from their ROCKMAKER album, by GLOK (Ride’s Andy Bell), Trentemøller and more and you can hear the remix of their Debbie Harry collab “I Will Never Stop Loving You” by A Place to Bury Strangers. “I’ve been a massive fan of Oliver (both A Place To Bury Strangers and Death By Audio) for ages, so I’m honored that he picked ‘I Will Never Stop Loving You’ to remix,” says the band’s Peter Holmström. “His flavor of audio destruction and Debbie Harry’s sublime vocals… Perfect!”

PATRICK WOLF – “HYMN OF THE HAAR”
Patrick Wolf’s first album in 13 years, Crying the Neck, arrives in June, and he’s given us another preview with “Hymn of the Haar.” “I wrote ‘Hymn of the Haar’ over three years of writing walks and researching the history and psychogeography of the White Cliffs of Dover near where I live and work in East Kent,” he says. “Studying from the romantic mythologising aspect of Alice Duer Miller’s famous work and the cliffs famous wartime anthem to observing Dover relentlessly exploited as the centre of ‘crisis’ after ‘crisis’ within the British media. I felt the need to write this, my own private relationship with of this beautiful and bewildering stretch of land, bringing me so much solace over the years, its antidote. Ultimately it became a song that accepts, as I have at my age, that we can only learn how to live alongside our miseries in order to be temporarily free of them, arriving and departing, temporarily obscuring our path and vision in the hymn of the passing mist of cloud, the sea fret, the haar. It was with this song I began to make out a relationship between Crying the Neck and my second album Wind in the Wires, where at 21 I was fighting to be free by being free of my sorrows but 20 years later I finally achieved that freedom in the acceptance of living alongside them. The final line is taken from a 10th Century poem written in Old English called ‘The Wanderer’: ‘Oft him anhaga are gebideð’ translating to ‘Often the solitary one finds mercy.'”

BILLY NOMATES – “PLANS”
Billy Nomates says of the second single to her upcoming album METALHORSE: “As I get older, and I’ve just had this diagnosis, and the world’s a fucking mess, the idea of being able to have fun or fall in love with someone is the ultimate rebellion, isn’t it? It just feels totally radical these days. And it seems to happen less as life gets more complicated. Things are only going to get worse, there’s no point being blue sky about it, but there’s also fun to be found in this two minute whizz around that we all have.”

Julien Baker and Torres have shared a final advance single from their anticipated new country album, the harmony-laden “Bottom of a Bottle.”

PAN AMSTERDAM – “NYC TOWN”
‘”NYC Town’ was written during a turning point in my life,” says Pan Amsterdam (aka Leron Thomas). “I started to contemplate the fact that I had been in New York City longer than I had lived in Houston where I’m from. Certain dreams never came to fruition and still other inspirations and aspirations presented themselves. The lessons learned and lessons still not learned. To be an important fixture in someone’s life and then become total strangers over time. The joke the city plays on you when your interests change and you’re presented with a new deck of cards filled with new people and personalities to interest you while you take a break from yourself. To take a break but don’t mistakenly try to escape from yourself. To question if your changing up was escapism or for self-growth. Do the two coexist all the time? Well we know that’s not true. Then the ultimate question. Did I come to New York to escape from myself or to grow? Probably a bit of both. Then trying to convince yourself that you’re in the best city on earth even though you kinda don’t think so. Then, watching other people do it. I’ve never seen so many people say a city out loud to each other than in NYC. You don’t hear people walking around saying “Paris” in Paris. Or “Denver” in Denver. But on the way to the Deli around the corner, I might hear someone say “New York” at least 10 times before I hit the front door of the deli. It’s like we’re all in the overpriced melting pot together and the joke is on us. Just suckers trying to convince ourselves that it’s a nice town. ‘NYC Town'” New album Confines is out May 23 via Heavenly.

M(H)AOL – “I MISS MY DOG”
M(h)aol’s new album Something Soft is out next month, and the latest single is spiky post-punk track “I Miss My Dog,” which Constsance Keane says “is a song about my dog Poppy, and the experience of losing a pet. She passed away in July last year, and I still sometimes wake up thinking she’s with us. I think losing a dog is something that people either understand or they don’t, and this is a song for those of us that do.”

DERADOORIAN – “NO NO YES YES”
There’s a strong ESG vibe to Deradoorian’s new single from her upcoming album Ready for Heaven.

MOURNING [A] BLKSTAR – “LET ‘EM EAT” FT. FATBOI SHARIF
Afrofuturist collective Mourning [A] BLKstar have a new album, Flowers for the Living, on the way, due out on May 16 via Don Giovanni. New single “Let ‘Em Eat” features a verse from Fatboi Sharif. “The song is about perseverance—about acknowledging the journey, the time spent, and not worrying about any outside noise,” co-founder LaToya Kent says.

DEMISE OF LOVE (DANIEL AVERY, WORKING MEN’S CLUB) – “BE A MAN”
Demise of Love, the trio of Daniel Avery, James Greenwood’s Ghost Culture, and Working Men’s Club, will release their debut EP on May 30 and here is the second single from it. Strong ’90s industrial things going on here.

Oklahoma’s Broncho will release new album Natural Pleasure next week and here are two low-fi earworms to tide you over till then.

CRYPTOPSY – “UNTIL THERE’S NOTHING LEFT”
Montreal brutal death metal vets Cryptopsy have announced their ninth album, An Insatiable Violence, due June 20 via Season of Mist. Here’s the absolutely vicious new single.

GRUESOME – “A DARKENED WINDOW”
Death metal staples Gruesome have announced a new album, Silent Echoes, due June 6 via Relapse, and the first taste is “A Darkened Window.”

NEFARIOUS (EXODUS, DEATH ANGEL, HIRAX, etc) – “ONE NATION ENSLAVED”
Nefarious is a new San Francisco thrash supergroup with Hirax vocalist Katon W. De Pena, guitarists Rick Hunolt (Diehumane, formerly Exodus) and Doug Piercy (Heathen, Anvil Chorus, Blind Illusion), bassist Tom Gears (Blind Illusion, Ancient Mariner), and drummer Will “Beastman” Carroll (Death Angel). Their debut album Addicted To Power arrives June 18 via Relentless “Metal” Records, and they’ve just shared a taste.

STAY INSIDE – “MONSIEUR HAWKWEED”
Just about a year after self-releasing their great 2024 album Ferried Away, Stay Inside have signed to Tiny Engines and they confirmed that they’ve got another new album arriving this fall. Title and exact release date are TBA, but they did just share new single “Monsieur Hawkweed,” which finds the Brooklyn emo band continuing to lean into their indie-Americana side. Read more here.

Big Thief‘s Adrianne Lenker has announced Live at Revolution Hall, a mammoth 43-track, 32-song live album, which will be out April 24 via 4AD. It was recorded “mostly” across three nights in June at the Portland venue on 2024 Bright Future tour.
