So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
ROB49 – “ON DAT MONEY” (ft. CARDI B)
Cardi B just said that her new album is coming “this year.” We’ll see if she follows through, but meanwhile she delivers a typically-great verse on the new song from New Orleans rapper Rob49 and stars alongside him in the video.

BIG SEAN – “YES”
Big Sean has announced a new album, Better Me Than You, due August 9 via Def Jam. As he’s done in the past, this one finds him going harder than you might expect from his often-goofy persona.

RAKIM – “NOW IS THE TIME” (ft. B.G., HUS KINGPIN & COMPTON MENACE)
It’s no exaggeration to say that rap as we know it wouldn’t exist without Rakim, and judging by the new singles from his first album in 15 years, G.O.D.’s Network (Reb7rth), he’s still got it.

STARFLYER 59 – “909”
Shoegaze vets Starflyer 59 will release their new album Lust For God on August 16, and lead single “909” finds Jason Martin delivering a brooding baritone over the song’s woozy, wall-of-sound guitars.

LIL YACHTY – “LET’S GET ON DEY ASS”
Lil Yachty has followed his ambient-leaning collaborative album with James Blake with a song that’s more in his typical rap style, “Let’s Get On Dey Ass.”

MAXO KREAM – “EYE KNOW”
In addition to appearing on the new Denzel Curry album that’s out today, Texas rapper Maxo Kream has shared his own new song. “Eye Know” finds him sounding as charismatic as ever over an energetic beat from Evilgiane.

BENNY THE BUTCHER – “SUMMER ’24”
Having released his new album Everybody Can’t Go earlier this year, Benny the Butcher is already back with another new single, “Summer ’24.”

ALICE PHOEBE LOU – “THE WORLD ABOVE”
After announcing that she’s supporting Clairo on tour in the fall, Alice Phoebe Lou has shared her first new music of the year. About “The World Above,” she says, “This song feels like a hand reaching down and pulling me up from the abyss, helping me rise to the surface after a difficult time. I wrote it in a moment of intense self-reflection as I began embracing who I am, loosening from the grips of addictions and feeling as though I am enough. It’s a celebration of self and acknowledgement of the paradox of our depths and darkness as well as our infinite lightness.”

THE REDS, PINKS & PURPLES – “MY TOXIC FRIEND” & “NEW MARKET SPACE”
Glenn Donaldson has been getting noise on recent Reds, Pinks & Purples releases including this very catchy, very fuzzy new two track single.

JOY OLADOKUN – “DRUGS”
“I wrote ‘DRUGS’ about feeling like my vices weren’t vice-ing hard enough,” Joy Oladokun says of her new single. “I think it became really easy for me to medicate my anxiety or anger or disillusionment instead of addressing those things head on. This is song is about realizing that and finding a new way to get by.” It’s from her new album, which is still to be announced.

AMY RIGBY – “BRICKS”
“Every few years I’m an instructor at a songwriting camp in northern Michigan,” says Amy Rigby offering some backstory on her new song from upcoming album Hang In There With Me. “The guy who runs it writes detailed song prompts for everyone and this is the second song I’ve written at the camp (the first was From Philip Roth at Gmail to R Zimmerman at AOL dot com, opening track from my 2018 album The Old Guys). The prompt for Bricks was about DIY and a breakup and in three minutes it helped me channel some actual long-buried trauma into a revenge fantasy. I love writing songs! Eric and I had a blast recording this.”

LAURA JANE GRACE & THE MISSISSIPPI MEDICALS – “KARMA TOO CLOSE”
Laura Jane Grace unleashed another new punk song with her band The Mississippi Medicals, “Karma Too Close.” “How’s your Karma? Coming a little too close for comfort? Mine too,” she says. “Take heart, keep your focus, keep going and also don’t forget to kick back and listen to the rippin electric sitar solo that Mike Patton plays.”

MORGAN WADE – “TOTAL CONTROL”
Country rocker Morgan Wade has shared a propulsive, heartland rock-infused new single from her upcoming album Obsessed.

BAYSIDE – “ASIDE” (THE WEAKERTHANS COVER)
The latest single from Hopeless Records’ Hopelessly Devoted To You 30th anniversary cover series is Bayside’s take on The Weakerthans’ classic “Aisde,” which appeared in volume 4 of the compilation in 2002.

MABEL – “FEMALE INTUITION”
UK pop singer Mabel has shared “Female Intuition,” a hard-hitting, R&B-infused dose of empowerment pop.

SAVE FERRIS – “LIGHTS OUT IN THE REPTILE HOUSE”
Halloween came early with the spooky new single from ’90s ska-punk vets Save Ferris.

JÓNSI – “FLICKER” & “CHERRY BLOSSOM”
Jónsi of Sigur Rós has announced a new album, First Light, which was originally conceived as a score for a video game but “evolved and transcended its initial purpose,” according to a press release. Two songs are out now, and you can read more here.

UNTO OTHERS – “ANGEL OF THE NIGHT”
Portland, OR goth rockers Unto Others have announced their third album and first for Century Media, Never, Neverland, and you can read about new single “Angel of the Night” here.
