So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
WIRE – “23 YEARS TOO LATE” (24 YEARS LATER EDIT)
Punk icons Wire are releasing an expanded edition of 2007’s Read & Burn 03 for Record Store Day and it now includes four versions of single “23 Years Too Late” including this new edit (and video).

NYC screamo band OLTH surprise-released a new album, O., which you can stream now. They say it’s “For Hallie” and “Inspired by MOB Records.”

MY NEW BAND BELIEVE (EX-BLACK MIDI) – “LOVE STORY”
Former black midi member Cameron Picton will release his first album with new band My New Band Believe on April 10 and here’s the first single from that. Cameron says, “With this whole record, I was trying to make another case for how the modern singer-songwriter album could sound, both in terms of its production and the writing of the songs themselves. I felt some more popular examples of the genre released between 2019-2023 would make the big feel inconsequential and the small nothing at all, so with this I’ve tried to give consequence to the small to make the big feel real.”

MUNA – “SO WHAT”
MUNA’s new album Dancing on the Wall is out in May, and the latest single, “So What,” is another synth-pop banger. “We’re at the point in our career where we’ve been to a lot of fancy parties in beautiful rooms with important people and we know the particular sadness of realizing it doesn’t make you feel better,” they say. “We’ve learned the hard way that validation is hollow and we actually just want connection. This is a song about going to one of those parties and leaving worse off than when we got there.”

TANYA DONELLY & CHRIS BROKAW – “SAINTE NICHOLAES”
Tanya Donelly (Belly, The Breeders, Throwing Muses) and Chris Brokaw (Come, Codeine) release The Undone is Done Again — their collaborative EP of interpretations of traditional medieval folk music, sung in Latin and Middle English — on April 17 and here’s another song from it. “Medieval purists be forewarned, we go where we want.”

PRINCE DADDY & THE HYENA – “24-03-04_BIRTHDAY_B4”
Prince Daddy & The Hyena vocalist and guitarist Kory Gregory said the band wrote and completed their exuberant new single “24-03-04_Birthday_B4” in a day, on mushrooms, and that it was his “best birthday ever.” It’s from their new album Hotwire Trip Switch.

POND – “TERRESTRIALS”
Australia psych band Pond will be on the road with Djo this summer and to celebrate they’ve shared this new single. Might there be an album announced by the time the tour actually starts? Stay tuned.

DYLAN BRADY – “PIÑATA STORE MINIMIX”
Dylan Brady of 100 gecs announced a new EP, Needle Guy, due out this Friday (3/20) via Dog Show/Atlantic. It’s his first solo release since 2018, and here’s a preview, “Piñata Store MiniMix.”

A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS – “WHERE ARE WE NOW”
APTBS’ Oliver Ackermann says “Where Are We Now” is about “looking back at friends you lost touch with. Wondering where they ended up. Remembering when everything felt possible.” That and noisy psych. B-Sides comp Rare And Deadly is out April 3 via Dedstrange

DOUG GILLARD – “YES SHE LOVES ME”
“This is a love song,” Doug Gillard says of “Yes She Loves Me,” the latest single from his new album Parallel Stride. “I came up with the music one evening, probably within a half hour. The lyrics came to me pretty quickly after that, which is rare for me.”

OFFICE DOG – “FRONT ROW SEAT”
New Zealand indie rock trio Office Dog are back with their first new music in two years, the very catchy “Front Row Seat.” Let’s hope we get more soon.

THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS – “OUTSIDE BRAIN”

BROWN HORSE – “WRECK”
Twangy British band Brown Horse are set to release new album Total Dive on April 10 and for an early taste here’s “Wreck.” It’s anthemic and just a little ragged. Nice.

WIDOWSPEAK – “IF YOU CHANGE”
NYC dream pop duo Widowspeak announced a new album, Roses, due out June 5 via Captured Tracks. About lead single “If You Change,” vocalist Molly Hamilton says she “thought about the fear of change, and when things (situations, objects) feel stuck in time because of a fear of ruining them. You always hear ‘mint condition’ as though it is as an asset, but it also means that thing hasn’t been used, lived with, loved. It never gets to fulfill its destiny.”

VEPS – “IF I WAS A MOTHER”
Oslo indie rock group Veps are back and will release a new album later this year via PNKSLM. Details have not been shared but this very catchy new single has.

FENTANYL – “COBRAR EL DOLOR”
Bay Area hardcore punks Fentanyl (featuring members of Spiritual Cramp, SPY, and World Peace) announced a new self-titled album (which follows their 2024 self-titled), due out May 1 via Convulse, and shared the first single, “Cobrar el Dolor.”

BUTTHOLE SURFERS – “JET FIGHTER” (ORIGINAL VERSION)
Butthole Surfers reissued some of their classic albums via Matador a couple years ago, and here’s another treat for fans: lost album After the Astronaut, which was to be the follow-up to 1996’s surprise hit Electriclarryland (which gave us the Beck-esque “Pepper“) but got shelved by Capitol Records and never officially saw the light of day in its intended form.

ANTHONY GREEN – “RECONCILE” & “FUCKS ME UP”
Anthony Green announced a new live album, Reconcile At The Tile Works, Recorded Live. It’s only being released to physical media, but you can preview it with two tracks, the previously unreleased “Reconcile,” and “Fucks Me Up” off 2022’s Boom. Done. Read more about all that here.
