So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
FEVER RAY – “I’M NOT DONE (THERAPY SESSION)”
Fever Ray has recored a new version of “I’m Not Done,” from their 2009 debut and it comes with a video featuring all of Karin Dreijer’s onscreen alter egos.

DAPHNI – “SAD PIANO HOUSE”
Caribou’s Dan Snaith is back under his “Daphni” guise with this new banger. “i dj’ed a lot last year in the lead up to the caribou album and inevitably ended up making a bunch of new music to play out in those sets,” Dan says. “i’d made this one but knew that i wasn’t sure about it or when it would ever get a release so i sent it over to ben ufo and he started playing it and people started asking me about it. now i’ve finally got a chance to finish it off and release it. i’d given it the temporary title ‘sad piano house’ when i sent it because it’s piano house… but, you know, not that kind of piano house… i didn’t really intend for that to be the final track title but once it appeared in a couple of tracklists for radio shows and people started asking about it, the title stuck.” Dan hints that more is on the way soon…

MAVIS STAPLES – “GODSPEED” (FRANK OCEAN COVER)
The legendary Mavis Staples has released a cover of Frank Ocean’s “Godspeed,” produced by Brad Cook and featuring spoken word by Kara Jackson. Mavis says, “Channel Orange was my first introduction to Frank Ocean and I was just amazed at the writing and soulfulness coming from his voice. And I loved Blonde when that record came out. That first line in ‘Godspeed’ of ‘I will always love you’ just crushes me every time I hear it…or sing it. It’s just such a beautiful song and he sounds amazing on it so I was a little nervous if we could pull it off. I was honored to sing his words.”

FIELD MEDIC – “MELANCHOLY”
Kevin Patrick Sullivan announced a new album as Field Medic, surrender instead, which he’s self releasing on August 8. The lead single is “MELANCHOLY,” and he says, “After getting sober, years in therapy, and for the first time taking an antidepressant, I would still sometimes suffer from days or weeks of stifling depression. Experiencing that unique and dreadful feeling comes as quite a shock when you’ve been ‘doing the work’ and ‘healing’ in the ways that I had been, and still am. I had just read William Styron’s darkness visible, which is his memoir about his time in the throes of a depressive episode. Having also recently written a doo-wop song for a pitch for sync, the ‘50s chord progression was fresh in my mind, as well as the examination of melancholy as a lifelong disease that waxes and wanes, but may never go away entirely.”

PILE – “UNEASY”
Boston DIY rock lifers Pile have shared the second taste of their upcoming ninth album, Sunshine and Balance Beams.

JAPANESE BREAKFAST – “MY BABY (GOT NOTHING AT ALL)”
Following the release of their new album For Melancholy Brunettes (& sad women), Japanese Breakfast have shared “My Baby (Got Nothing At All),” from the soundtrack to Celine Song’s upcoming A24 film Materialists.

BRUCE DICKINSON – “GODS OF WAR” (2025 REIMAINGED VERSION)
Bruce Dickinson has reworked his second solo album, 1994’s Balls To Picasso (released during his hiatus from Iron Maiden), as More Balls to Picasso, and it comes out on July 25. Here’s the reimagined version of “Gods of War.”

IRON & WINE – “ROBIN’S EGG” (FT. I’M WITH HER)
“I had the start of ‘Robin’s Egg’ kicking around and began finishing the tune earlier this year with I’m With Her in mind,” Iron & Wine’s Sam Beam says. “We had already started to plan our summer tour together; I passed it to them with the hope they were up for adding their voices to it and lucky for me they were! I’m looking forward to performing it, and a few other surprises, with them this summer.”

NUOVO TESTAMENTO – “PICTURE PERFECT”
Punk-frendly dance-pop trio Nuovo Testamento have announced a new EP, Trouble, due July 25 via Discoteca Italia. Lead single “Picture Perfect” is a super catchy dose of ’90s Eurotrance revival.

STAY INSIDE – “SUPER SONIC”
Stay Inside have shared their second new single of 2025, with plans to release a new album on Tiny Engines this fall. “Super Sonic” finds the band indie/emo crossover in fine form, with some great horn arrangements to boot.

EQUIPMENT – “ESPRESSO LEMONADE”
Ohio emo band Equipment have followed last year’s “Tequila Redbull” single with the power-poppy “Espresso Lemonade.”

CRUELSTER – “NUCLEAR WORD”
Cleveland punks Cruelster have announced a new LP, Make Them Wonder Why, due July 11 via Convulse Records. If you like scrappy, chaotic ’80s punk/hardcore, you should check this out.

WING! – “OUT FROM OUTER”
wing!, aka South London producer Adam Swan, will release new EP Missed It Just the Once on September 12 and here’s the first single. With the booming drums and dark atmosphere there are some trip hop vibes but “Out from Outer” has its own style.

DOT ALLISON – “WEEPING ROSES [LOMOND CAMPBELL REMIX]”
Former One Dove singer Dot Allison is releasing Subconsciousology on July 25 which is a full-album remix of her 2023 album Consciousology by producer Lomond Campbell. His version of “Weepign Roses” goes deep into acid house territory.

THE BLACK WATCH – “SURELY YOU RALLY”
“Surely You Rally is a quotation from some Restoration play I read,” says John Andrew Fredrick of long-running indie act The Black Watch. “It’s about flirtations and banter and the someone who teases and toys but then always ‘has to be going’. I like how growl-y Andy Creighton’s bass here as a way to mime the biting quality of the lyrics. A bit of tone-painting we did in recording this song we knew would be single-bait.”

MARGO PRICE – “DON’T LET THE BASTARDS GET YOU DOWN”
>Margo Price has announced a new album, Hard Headed Woman, and tour dates. The album was produced by frequent collaborator Matt Ross-Spang and features duets with Tyler Childers and Jesse Wells. The video for this first single was inspired by Sinead O’Connor, Kris Kristofferson, and The Handmaid’s Tale.

CARDINALS – “BIG EMPTY HEART”
Irish band Cardinals are back with their first new music of 2025, a swaggering number that mixes post-punk atmospherics with traditional Celtic Music. “Big Empty Heart is a love song written from beyond the grave. It is a waltz as waltzes are the most romantic kinds of songs. Oskar wrote the main melody on a Korg synthesiser when he was 12 and the song is built around that.”

LA DISPUTE – “ENVIRONMENTAL CATASTROPHE FILM”
La Dispute have shared Act II from their upcoming album No One Was Driving The Car, which is a three-part, nearly-nine-minute song called “Environmental Catastrophe Film.” Read about it here.

New York post-rocky emo vets Moving Mountains have announced their first album in 12 years, Pruning of the Lower Limbs, due in just two weeks (June 27) via Wax Bodega. Read about lead single “Ghosts” here.

Pinkshift have announced a new album, Earthkeeper, along with second single “Anita Ride.” Read more about it here.

DAVID BYRNE – “EVERYBODY LAUGHS”
David Byrne has announced a new album, Who Is the Sky?, his first album since 2018 and first for the long-running indie label Matador Records. It features St. Vincent (who sings backup on this song), Hayley Williams, and others, and he also announced a world tour. Read more here.
