So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE DIRTY NIL – “GALLOP OF THE HOUNDS”
Ontario’s hard-rockin’ punks The Dirty Nil announced a new album, The Lash, due July 25 via Dine Alone. Here’s the riffy, anthemic lead single.

YOUTH CODE – “IN SEARCH OF TOMORROW”
Youth Code’s new EP, Yours, With Malice, arrives next month, and they’ve given us another preview with the pummeling “In Search of Tomorrow.”

YUMI ZOUMA – “BASHVILLE ON THE SUGAR”
New Zealand pop band Yumi Zouma are back with this new song that is their first release for Nettwerk Records. “The first song on our forthcoming project that we really dug into, it’s an ode to the subway and public transport, New York’s in particular,” YZ say. “The band has a deep affinity for it; its reliability and the access it provides are unlike anything we experienced in New Zealand. At the same time, its unpredictability — what you’ll see, who you’ll bump into — keeps each trip rooted in the present.”

SAMWOY – “DIAMOND EYES”
Montreal artist SamWoy (Sam Woywitka) is known for making a dark and noisy racket but he says “Diamond Eyes” is the first song he could play for his mom. Whether she’d like the horror-themed video is another story. This is from his new album Even Sad Boys Like to Have Fun that’s out May 30.

JADE BIRD – “DREAMS”
Jade Bird announced a new album, Who Wants to Talk About Love, due out July 18 via Glassnote. She’s shared “Dreams,” which she says is a “very dark song. I saw a billboard driving to the studio after a bit of a nasty breakdown. I’d gone to sleep at five am the night before and read ‘this is what dreams are made of’. Combined with the LA sun I felt a deep irony. It’s about feeling too broken to be with the person you love. Pushing them away because of generational habits and (I don’t like the word) trauma.”

ELIJAH JOHNSTON – “IDEAS”
Georgia singer-songwriter Elijah Johnston will release new album Stupid Soul on June 20 via Strolling Bones. He says first single “Ideas” is “essentially the mission statement for the record. It’s intentionally open-ended. It’s based on big-tent sounds like ‘90s alt-rock, classic power-pop, and old-school songwriter tricks.”

CRAIG WEDREN & ANNA WARONKER – “SLEEPWALKING”
Showtime series Yellowjackets just wrapped its third season this week and score composers Craig Wedren and Anna Waronker have shared this haunting song that was inspired by Marianne Faithfull.

POST ANIMAL – “LAST ANIMAL”
Chicago psych band Post Animal have announced new album Iron which will be out July 25. It reunites them with Joe Keery, who left the band in 2017 to focus on his role in Stranger Things (and also makes music as Djo), but is now back in the fold.

RAY VAUGHN – “DOLLAR MENU”
Ray Vaughn’s debut project for Top Dawg Entertainment, The Good The Bad The Dollar Menu, comes out next week (4/25), and here’s the hard-hitting “Dollar Menu.”

REAL BAD MAN & BOLDY JAMES – “COME BACK AROUND” (ft. DREAMCASTMOE) & “IT FACTOR” (ft. EL-P)
We’re beginning to lose track of how many albums Boldy James is putting out this year. The Detroit rapper has one with LA producer Real Bad Man called Conversational Pieces (their third collaborative album) due May 2 via Real Bad Man Records, and two tracks are out now: one with dreamcastmoe and one with El-P.

OVRKAST – “SMALL TALK” (ft. SAMARA CYN)
Fresh off announcing a tour supporting Saba, indie-rapper Ovrkast dropped a new track featuring the promising, rising rapper Samara Cyn (who’s also about to begin a tour supporting Smino).

BLOOD VULTURE (TWO MINUTES TO LATE NIGHT) – “A DREAM ABOUT STARVING TO DEATH”
Two Minutes To Late Night‘s Jordan Olds has launched a new band called Blood Vulture, whose debut album Die Close comes out June 27 via Pure Noise and features some very cool guests: AFI‘s Jade Puget, Kristin Hayter (fka Lingua Ignota), and Shadows Fall‘s Brian Fair. The first single is the gothic sludge metal of “A Dream About Starving To Death.”

BLOOD MONOLITH – “APPARATUS”
Blood Vulture is not to be confused with Blood Monolith, the new band with members of Ulthar, Undeath, Nails, and more, who just shared another taste of their upcoming debut album for Profound Lore, The Calling of Fire.

BLOOD MENACE – “SIPHON”
More blood: the Shin Guard/Hazing Over-related Blood Menace announced a new self-tiled album, due this May, and the industrial-tinged lead single “Siphon” is out now.

AGE OF APOCALYPSE – “IMPULSE” (ft. GRAHAM SAYLE of HIGH VIS)
Militarie Gun and High Vis were supposed to be on tour together right now until High Vis vocalist Graham Sayle needed emergency surgery, but the singers of both bands did just release collaborative tracks. Militarie Gun with Dazy, and High Vis’ Graham Sayle with New York’s Life of Agony-esque Age of Apocalypse, who were scheduled to open part of that tour. High Vis and AOA are very different bands, and their styles come together in unexpected ways on this track.

BRENT COBB & THE FIXIN’S – “AIN’T ROCKED IN A WHILE”
Brent Cobb & the Fixin’s new album is called Ain’t Rocked In A While, but they definitely rock on the riffy title track. The LP drops July 11 via Ol’ Buddy Records/Thirty Tigers.

SEEDBED – “MOUSE AT YOUR FEET”
Seedbed is “a revolving-door collective project helmed by Atlanta songwriter JJ Posway (Sloping, Scooterbabe),” and their debut album Stalemate arrives June 27 via Tiny Engines. Here’s the harmony-laden, ’90s-style indie rock of new single “Mouse at Your Feet.”

RAD SKULLS (LATTERMAN) – “SEEING RED” (MINOR THREAT COVER) & “SLOW SKULLS”
Rad Skulls is a new band from Pat Schramm (Latterman, Bridge and Tunnel, Tender Defender, etc), and they just dropped the new song “Slow Skulls” alongside a Minor Threat cover.

MIKE & TONY SELTZER – “PREZZY”
NYC underground rap leader MIKE is having yet another prolific year. He released his great 24-song album Showbiz! in January and now he teamed up with with producer Tony Seltzer for a sequel to last year’s Pinball. Hear lead single “Prezzy” and read more here.

MATMOS – “CHANGING STATES”
Drew Daniel and M.C. Schmidt’s new Matmos album, Metallic Life Review, was made entirely from sounds created by metal objects and features Thor Harris and the late Susan Alcorn.
