So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
MCKINLEY DIXON – “COULD’VE BEEN DIFFERENT” (ft. BLU & SHAMIR)

AGE OF APOCALYPSE – “MORTAL COIL”
Age of Apocalypse have announced a new album, In Oblivion, due May 23 via Closed Casket Activities. They’ve always had a Life of Agony kinda thing going on, but new single “Mortal Coil” finds them going further into Headbangers Ball-era alt-metal territory than ever before.

PUNCHBAG – “I’M NOT YOUR PUNCHBAG”
UK duo PUNCHBAG signed to Mute Records last year and have now announced their first EP for the label. I’m Not Your Punchbag will be out May 2 and the title track is like an adrenalized mash-up of Toni Basil’s “Mickey,” Icona Pop’s “I Love It” and the late-’90s electronica of your choice. Fun!

JULIEN BAKER & TORRES – “DIRT”
Julien Baker and Torres have shared another new track from their new country album, Send a Prayer My Way, the melancholy, Baker-led “Dirt.”

DISINIBLUD (RACHIKA NAYAR & NINA KEITH) – “IT’S CHANGE” FT. WILLY SIEGEL, KATIE DEY & JULIANNA BARWICK / “BLUE RAGS, RAGING WIND” FT. AMIGONE
Producers, composers, and multi-instrumentalists Rachika Nayar and Nina Keith have announced a new collaborative project. They’ll released their self-titled debut album as Disiniblud on July 18 via Domino’s Smugglers Way imprint, and they’ve shared the two guest-filled tracks – “It’s Change” ft. Ponytail’s Willy Siegel, Katie Dey, and Julianna Barwick; and “Blue Rage, Raging Wind,” featuring Amigone.

LAEL NEALE – “DOWN ON THE FREEWAY”
“This song is specific to Los Angeles,” Lael Neale says of “Down on the Freeway.” “The drum machine really wrote the song. It conjures the endless sea of cars. Moving, bottlenecked, bumper to bumper. I’m always amazed that so many of us have somewhere to go. The video appeared in my mind’s eye as soon as we recorded the song. I saw that cars on the freeway are like people walking in a fashion show, pacing back and forth. The fashion show is the epitome of movement going nowhere. The video is a part of a larger story being told by the album and accompanying film, in which my character is an alien bewildered by the modern way of life on Earth. The QR code I ingest at the end of this video suggests that humanity is caught up in an escapist fantasy of techno-consumerism.” It’s from her new album Altogether Stranger.

POPULATION II – “LA TRIPPANCE”
Montreal garage/psych/prog group Population II will release new album Maintenant Jamais on Friday and here’s one last dose before you can experience the whole thing.

UWADE – “HARMATTAN”
“For a long time, this song was a giant puzzle,” Uwade says of “Harmattan,” the latest single from her new album Florilegium. “I couldn’t figure out lyrics, a compelling arrangement, or how to transform it from the earliest stages of the demo to what it is now. Somehow the song’s creative cycle is reflected in the subject matter–lots of questions, few answers, and being forced to find comfort in the chaos. It turned out that every new phase of experimentation unlocked another element of the song that I loved. As Harmattan went from demo to studio to demo to studio, I refined my vision and the song became exactly what I wanted. ‘Will you sway with me when my voice gives out?’ Is one of my favorite lyrics on Florilegium. Writing it helped me to unravel a huge knot of anxiety around being a musician that I’d been dealing with for some time. I don’t think there’s an answer, but I’m ok with that for now.”

CAREER WOMAN – “PIANO SONG”
Career Woman, the Santa Cruz-based band led by Melody Caudill, have announced their debut full-length album, Lighthouse, due out on June 6 via Lauren Records. The first single is crunchy indie rock track “Piano Song,” About which Melody says, “It’s about not taking things too seriously and letting myself have fun, recovering from a deeply shy and introverted teenhood and diving into a social, fast-paced young-adulthood.”

THE SWELL SEASON – “PEOPLE WE USED TO BE”
Ahead of their 2025 tour, The Swell Season have shared their first new music since 2023, “People We Used To Be.” “It’s a song about trying to reconcile with what feels like an end of an era and allowing one’s self to mourn the People We Used To Be while choosing to fight for the person we love and the life we built with them,” Markéta rglová says. “It is a song of defiance and determination as much as heart aching nostalgia.”

BLACK COUNTRY, NEW ROAD – “FOR THE COLD COUNTRY”
Black Country, New Road’s new album Forever Howling is out next week and here’s another preview. This is one of two songs May Kershaw sings lead on.

YAYA BEY – “MERLOT & GRIGIO” (FT. FATHER PHILIS)
Yaya Bey has signed to drink sum wtr and shared her first single for the NYC-based label. The self-produced “merlot and grigio” features Father Philis, and Yaya says, “I’ve been doing a lot of international touring and constantly in places where I’m the only Black person. When I was in France most recently I asked myself what it would look like to play to Black international audiences and that sort of got my wheels turning. My dad would always have at least one Reggae song on his albums. Our family is from Barbados and I continued that tradition with songs like ‘meet me in brooklyn.’ I decided I would dive even deeper with Soca and reached out to Father Philis whose music I’ve been really digging. This song feels like a dream come true. To dig deeper into my own roots and prioritize Black communities especially in the Caribbean.”

LYRA PRAMUK – “REWILD”
After returning in February with “Vega,” her first new music in five years, Lyra Pramuk has announced a new album, Hymnal, due out on June 13 via 7K! and her own pop.soil label. She says new single “Rewild” “charts the beginning of a time-lapse journey across different landscapes, from sunset to sunrise, guided through the night by distant stars. Rewild is an invocation for the deep, embodied knowledge that lies in each of us already — if we will only have the courage to remember it again.”

READY FOR DEATH – “PROJECT T.A.R.A.N.T.U.L.A.”
Ready For Death (members of Milhouse, Pelican, Racetraitor, etc) have announced a new album, Pay With Your Face, due June 27 via Translation Loss, and first single “Project T.A.R.A.N.T.U.L.A” is a crusty metalpunk rager.

PACING – “PL*NET F*TNESS”
Pacing (aka Katie McTigue) will release her second album later this year via Asian Man Records, and new single “Pl*net F*tness” is a quirky, indie-punk meets anti-folk song inspired by cancelling several gym memberships.

NIONTAY – “MUMBLEMAN”
Brooklyn-via-Florida experimental rapper Niontay has announced a new album, Fada<3of$, due 4/25 via MIKE‘s 10k label, and lead single “Mumbleman” is out now. Read more here.

Virginia shoegazers Keep are opening part of Turnover’s Peripheral Vision 10th anniversary tour, and ahead of that, they announced a new album, Almost Static. Read more about lead single “Fun Facts” here.

MARC RIBOT – “WHEN THE WORLD’S ON FIRE” (CARTER FAMILY COVER)
Marc Ribot is a renowned guitarist who over the last 40+ years has brought his unique style to records by Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, Marianne Faithfull, The Lounge Lizards, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, and more. One thing he’s never done though, until now, is make a singer-songwriter vocal album. Map of a Blue City will be out May 23 via New West. The album was produced and mixed by Ben Greenberg (Uniform) featuring original studio sessions recorded by the late Hal Willner. The first single is an atmospheric update of this standard which was made famous by the Carter Family.

STEVE QUERALT (RIDE) – “LONELY TOWN” FT LUSH’S EMMA ANDERSON
Ride bassist Steve Queralt has announced his debut solo album, Swallow, which will be out June 13 via Sonic Cathedral. Made over the last five years, the album is largely instrumental but does feature vocal contributions from Emma Anderson (Lush) and Verity Susman (Electrelane, MEMORIALS). “Lonely Town” is one of the songs with Emma.
