So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
SPEED – “AIN’T MY GAME”
Australian hardcore band Speed have shared the second taste of their anticipated three-song EP All My Angels. This one’s more of an angry finger-pointer than lead single “Peace,” and it’s another great one.

NALA SINEPHRO – “GRAND PRIX”
Ambient jazz artist Nala Sinephro announced her debut film score, for Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine. It’s in theaters on October 3, which is also when the soundtrack is out digitally via Warp, with a physical release to follow on January 23. She’s shared the lead single, the atmospheric “Grand Prix.”

DESTINY BOND – “OUT LOUD” & “MIND TO THE MIRROR”
Denver hardcore punks Destiny Bond offer up two new fast rippers from their upcoming sophomore album The Love.

HORSE JUMPER OF LOVE – “MANSION”
Horse Jumper of Love announced a deluxe edition of their 2024 album Disaster Trick featuring b-sides, demos, alternative versions, and more. They’ve shared the previously unheard “Mansion,” about which vocalist and guitarist Dimitri Giannopoulos says, “‘Mansion’ is a song that started back in the self-titled days (2014/15 -ish). I remember being into the early Swans stuff back then and it had a pretty direct influence on the guitar and drums. I always regret not recording it when I was 20, so I could have tapped into the youthful rawness the self-titled album has. In the studio Jamie, John and I knew how to play it right away even though we hadn’t thought about it in almost eight years. That’s a cool part about being in a band together for so long – the collective memory we share that allowed us to record something that was almost abandoned. The song only existed in our minds that whole time, no demos or anything.”

REMEMBER SPORTS – “ACROSS THE LINE”
Remember Sports have signed to Get Better Records and their first single for the label is “Across the Line.” It finds them going in kind of a country-ish grungy indie rock direction and it fits in well with stuff like Ratboys, Wednesday, etc.

MY MORNING JACKET – “THE DEVIL’S PEANUT BUTTER”
My Morning Jacket are releasing a deluxe 20th anniversary edition of Z with outtakes, demos, previously unreleased tracks and more, and they’ve shared one of those, “The Devil’s Peanut Butter.” “I remember the melody of ‘The Devil’s Peanut Butter’ popping into my head as I strolled across the harbor bridge in Sydney, Australia, near the Opera House, staring down at the eerie grinning entrance face to Luna Park,” Jim James says. “I worked on it some more while staying at Bondi Beach, walking amongst the graveyards and lawn bowling clubs that sit up high on the cliffs overlooking the beautiful coves of the Pacific Ocean. I have no idea why we called it ‘The Devil’s Peanut Butter,’ but our producer, John Leckie, absolutely did not like the title, and we laughed about it quite a bit. For some reason, it just didn’t seem to fit on Z, but we all loved it, then forgot about it for 20 YEARS, and now here it is back to life again! We hope you enjoy!”

SYLVAN ESSO – “WDID”
Sylvan Esso are back with their first new music in three years, a banger that teases of a new album yet to be announced. Don’t look for it on Spotify, though. “As we prepare to release new music, we have to decide what we want to be a part of and what we don’t,” say Amelia and Nick. “To that end, with Sylvan Esso being on our own label for the first time, we have decided to remove our music from Spotify. While no solution is perfect, we simply can’t continue to put our life’s work in a store that, in addition to all its other glaring flaws, directly funds war machines.”

JORDANA – “LIKE THAT”
Jordana’s new EP Jordanaland is out in November, and she’s shared another preview, “Like That,” which she calls “a song about being totally encapsulated in someone, but at the same time, feeling as though they want you only for superficial reasons. It’s about knowing the situation you’re in is bad for you, even promising to others that you wouldn’t ever degrade yourself again, but your feelings are so intense, it’s difficult to navigate.”

THE CHARLATANS – “DEEPER AND DEEPER”
The Charlatans have shared the second single from their upcoming album We Are Love. This one is probably the most Charlatans-esque song on the album with its prominent Hammond organ. “It kicks in with a sense of immediacy,” says Tim Burgess. “It’s Altered States meets Pincher Martin. The Hammond organ leads the way and hands you over to the irresistible and relentless bassline – a sense of giving in to what surrounds you. Sometimes it’s where you should be going. But you only get the answer once you can’t turn back.”

DESTROYER – “THE SAME THING AS NOTHING AT ALL”
Destroyer have shared a video for “The Same Thing as Nothing At All” from this year’s Dan’s Boogie. Says director David Ray: “As a director of feature-length dramas, I approached this Destroyer video as a narrative in light and colour—letting the palette shift and evolve the way their music does, inspired by their artwork. It was a true collaboration, drawing on resources and students from Capilano University and blending emerging talent with seasoned professionals. Working with Director of Photography Sean Finan, editor Mauri Bernstein, and colourist Kipp Lightburn (Alter Ego) gave the piece a richness and depth that I think mirrors Destroyer’s sound—cinematic, layered, and alive.”

MEI SEMONES – “ITSUMO”
Mei Semones has followed up this year’s Animaru with a new single. “‘Itsumo’ is the first song I ever wrote and recorded on a nylon string guitar,” Mei says. “For me the song is about learning to be strong, and the strength that music has given me. I like the contrast between the bossa-style groove and bop-inspired string lines in the first half of the song and the distorted guitar layers and heavier rhythm section in the rock/grunge ending!”

STEPHEN WILSON JR. – BLANKETS EP (POSTAL SERVICE, NIRVANA, SMASHING PUMPKINS & TEMPLE OF THE DOG COVERS)
Indiana-born, Nashville-based country singer-songwriter Stephen Wilson Jr., whose new song with Shaboozey can be heard in the new Stephen King movie “The Long Walk,” recently dropped his satisfying new Blankets EP via Big Loud Records. The four-song EP features interpretations of Nirvana’s “Something In The Way,” Temple of the Dog’s “Hunger Strike,” The Postal Service’s “Clark Gable” and The Smashing Pumpkins’ “Tonight, Tonight.”

Tortoise first album in nearly a decade, and first for International Anthem, is out October 24 and here’s another intriguing preview.

DOROTHY – “50S SONG”
“The shack is a roaring glow, filled with all kinds of folk,” is how new UK group Dorothy describe their warm yet haunting “50s song” single and it’s themes. “Stranded mariners from the far edges of the ocean. The beer flows from the taps like gold, and like a moth you flock to it again and again throughout the night. You sing at the moon of your heart’s desire.”

MOONDADDY – “GREAT EXPANSION”
San Diego band Moondaddy release their second album Dove Tapes on Halloween and here’s an early taste “When I thought of the title, I pictured a dove carrying an olive branch,” says bandleader Cara Potiker. “I’m committed to creating little microcosms of love, despite what’s happening in the world. That’s what art facilitates, and what we all need to keep doing.”
