So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
THE WONDER YEARS – “WYATT’S SONG (YOUR NAME)” (BURST & DECAY)
The Wonder Years have shared a lo-fi acoustic rework of “Wyatt’s Song (Your Name)” from the upcoming third volume of Burst & Decay.

SQUID – “THE HEARTH AND CIRCLE ROUND FIRE”
Ahead of their North American tour, Squid have unveiled a new single. “’The Hearth And Circle Round Fire’ is a punky tune that came together quite easily but we felt dissatisfied with that ease and decided to record it as a 15 minute jam, rip it apart and tape it back together,” vocalist and drummer Ollie Judge says. “Lyrically, it was inspired by the dystopian worlds of Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and Kay Dick’s They, worlds which everyday people succumb to mass censorship and propaganda with only a small amount of people willing to fight against it.”

CURTIS HARDING – “THERE SHE GOES”
Soulful garage rocker Curtis Harding is back with his first new song in four years, and no it’s not a La’s cover.

SORRY GIRLS – “QUIET HANDS”
Montreal duo Sorry Girls’ new album Dreamwalker is out in June, and they’ve shared another single, “Quiet Hands,” which they say “is marked with notes of Americana and other new genres explored and shaped by the bands’ experiences on the road touring North America, while the lyricism connects to the ethos of tension and personal growth found throughout the record.”

PLANNING FOR BURIAL – “YOU THINK”
Planning For Burial revs things up on this propulsive new taste of It’s Closeness, It’s Easy.

GORDI – “CUTTING ROOM FLOOR”
“‘Cutting Room Floor’ is a song about growing pains, about the slow splintering that happens between people,” Gordi says of the latest single off her new album Like Plasticine. “I took the song to Durham in North Carolina to work on with my friend, Brad Cook. Matt McCaughan came over and played drums, and Brad and I filled in the rest. It was one of those songs that seemed to expand to fit any idea, and it was a real joy to work on. Jared Frieder and I shot the video in a carpark in Dallas as the sun was setting in the middle of a sweltering heatwave. I ate a whole pack of Twizzlers when we finished in an effort to abate my delirium.”

GREG FREEMAN – “POINT AND SHOOT”
One of the most promising newer voices within the current indie-country boom is Vermont singer/songwriter Greg Freeman, who just announced his sophomore album Burnover. Read more about the album and this lead single here.

FLORENCE ROAD – “CATERPILLAR”
Following last month’s “Heavy,” Florence Road have shared another single, “Caterpillar,” which was produced by Dan Nigro.

PREOCCUPATIONS – ILL AT EASE”
The title track to Preoccupations’ new album Ill at Ease is easily the gentlest song they’ve released to date.

MADELINE KENNEY – “ALL I NEED”
Madeline Kenney announced a new album, Kiss From the Balcony, due out on July 18 via Carpark. About first single “All I Need,” Kenney says, “This was an Imagined Love song – trying to create something perfect and soft and yet realistic; the feeling of falling into someone after a long day, an imagined cheek so soft you could live there. I think a good love song has to include something about feeling like the only ones in the world who ‘get it.’ I like to think of the Kiss from the Balcony as the totally wild and foolhardy desire to love, to blow a kiss to the universe, despite it all.”

BLACK MOTHER SUPER RAINBOW – “UNKNOWN POTION”
The new Black Moth Super Rainbow single has strong Air vibes and not just because of the vocoder. New album Soft New Magic Dream is out June 6.

CUT COPY – “SOLID” & “A DECADE LONG SUNSET”
“I wrote the song as a reminder to myself that things will be ok, even when life gets turned on its head and it feels like there’s no way forward,” says Cut Copy’s Dan Whitford of the group’s first single in five years. “I hope in some small way it gives other people a little nudge forward in the direction of their dreams. Hang in there… we’ll be solid.”

CIVIC – “THE HOGG”
Here’s a new ripper from CIVIC’s new album Chrome Dipped.

MIKI BERENYI TRIO (EX-LUSH) X LOL TOLHURST (EX-CURE) & GRAY – “STRANGER”
Lush’s Miki Berenyi and her former tourmate Lol Tolhurst (ex Cure) have shared this new collab single that also features Lol’s son, Gray. “The lyrics are about being a friend to a long-term couple splitting,” says Miki. “The tragedy at the centre is the people actually breaking up, but the repercussions ripple outward.”
