20 New Songs Out Today

So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.

REDVEIL – “SQUARE ONE”

Rising rap auteur redveil is due for a new project (his last full-length was his 2022 breakout LP learn 2 swim), and while there’s no word on that yet, we did just get this great new single. He produced it alongside Johnny May (SZA, Tyler, the Creator, Jean Dawson) and Luke Titus (Noname, Ravyn Lenae, Steve Lacy).

FRIENDSHIP – “RESIDENT EVIL”

The latest taste of Friendship’s upcoming album Caveman Wakes Up came into existence while singer/songwriter Dan Wriggins was staying with Wednesday’s Karly Hartzman and MJ Lenderman in North Carolina. He explains, “I needed somewhere to stay in the summer of ’23, and Jake and Karly let me stay at a place they had outside of Asheville while they were on tour. The only guy around was (songwriter and drummer for the Wind) Colin Miller, and I would write all day and go over to Colin’s porch at night to drink and shoot the shit. I remember coming up with the refrain, “Who’s that shithead in my living room / playing Resident Evil” and Colin telling me it was a great line. It’s a bit of a stolen valor song; the only game I’ve played in the franchise is 7, and I played it on VR. Very scary.”

SAMIA – “CAROUSEL”

Ahead of the release of her anticipated new album Bloodless, Samia has shared a final advance single, “Carousel.” Samia calls it “a shadow of a long song – it’s about spinning your wheels, and being afraid to make someone’s life less beautiful if you’re in it.”

CLUB NIGHT – “RABBIT”

Here’s a new track from Club Night’s anticipated Joy Coming Down.

LAURA JANE GRACE – “ACTIVE TRAUMA”

Laura Jane Grace’s new album Adventure Club arrives in July, and the latest single is “Active Trauma.” “I played a demo of this song for the manager I was working with in 2018 and they told me it sounded like The Mountain Goats,” she writes. “I fired that manager.”

THE MOONLANDINGZ – “IT’S WHERE I’M FROM” FT. IGGY POP

“‘It’s Where I’m From’ was the very first song I wrote after my accident,” The Moonlandingz’s Adrian Flanagan says, referencing a bad bike wreck that broke both his arms and the band’s new single which features Iggy Pop. “I think I hit some kind of sweet spot between Johnny Cash doing ‘Hurt’ and something off Scott Walker’s ‘Scott 2’ album, the track grounds you! I got busy with other projects and the track ended up dumped in a box at the back of a cupboard for well over a decade. During the final days of The Moonlandingz album recording sessions I rediscovered the CD with pretty much an album full of these beautiful songs on them, so I brought the rough demo to The Moonlandingz session. I got my friend Oliver Harrap to put some live drums over it, Alex White put some beautiful additional sax and flute on it and I put a new guide vocal on it with the intention of getting someone else to sing it before I completely re-recorded my original demo parts with my co producer Dean Honer! My absolute first choice to sing my song was Iggy Pop. No sweaty young upstart could sing this song and make you believe it.” New album No Rocket Required is out Friday.

KULA SHAKER – “CHARGE OF THE LIGHT BRIGADE”

ANDY BELL – “HEART’S A LIAR”

THE BOUNCING SOULS – “UNITED”

The Bouncing Souls have released their first new single since 2023’s Ten Stories High, and you can read about it here.
