So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
HAILEY WHITTERS – “PRODIGAL DAUGHTER” (ft. MOLLY TUTTLE)
Hailey Whitters follows recent single “Casseroles” with new single “Prodigal Daughter,” which features Molly Tuttle and pulls influence from bluegrass. “Over the last few years, I’ve been listening to a lot of bluegrass music,” Hailey says, “and I’ve been so excited by the new faces propelling the genre – especially artists like Molly Tuttle and Billy Strings. Their music definitely inspired this one, and I was lucky enough to get Molly to be a part of it and to record with some of my favorite bluegrass musicians like Bryan Sutton, Stuart Duncan, Justin Moses and Charlie Worsham to help me define a new sound for this record.”

DRAYTON FARLEY – “LUCK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE”
Alt-country singer Drayton Farley kicked off 2025 with a live album and now he’s shared a proper new single, a lovely stripped-back song called “Luck on the Bright Side.”

RUGH – “GR8TIME”
Home Is Where just plugged Rugh’s debut album Rug by tweeting “the best band to ever come out of florida just released their debut album today. it’s one of the best albums to come out in years,” so naturally we had to check it out. We’re still digesting the full LP, but for now, here’s opening track “Gr8time.” It’s a grungy, discordant indie rock song and if you’re into Wednesday or Speedy Ortiz or anything else in that realm, you should check it out.

J. COLE – “CLOUDS”
J. Cole is back with a new single, on which he makes a reference to the Donald Trump assassination attempt in Philadelphia last June.

YUNG LEAN – “FOREVER YUNG”
Swedish rapper Yung Lean’s new album Jonatan (his real first name) arrives May 2, and here’s the bouncy new single “Forever Yung.”

JENNIE & DOECHII – “EXTRAL”
Doechii is everywhere lately, and now she’s on the new single from JENNIE of BLACKPINK.

RÖYKSOPP FT ROBYN – “DO IT AGAIN”
Norwegian dance duo Röyksopp are reworking a bunch of their classics for new album The True Electric and here’s their new version of their 2014 collab with Robyn.

CHARLEY CROCKETT – “GAME I CAN’T WIN”
“I’ve been swinging a hammer on the scenic route for a long time now,” Charley Crockett of his new single.. “I think that’s something most folks can relate to. I’ve been invited up to see the view from the top of the ivory towers, more than a few times in recent years. The thing is, you get up there, the view can be intoxicating. But then you get to talking with the folks who reside up there, and you realize pretty quick that they’re not even sure why they invited you up in the first place. ‘You ever been to New York City before, Charley?’ Yeah, hoss. A few times, actually. Seen it in ways you’ll never comprehend. For me, no matter how good the view is, it doesn’t change the need to keep on swinging this hammer. The work don’t stop. Not for me, not for anyone really. Like the song says, I’m playing this game for keeps.” Charley’s new album Lonesome Drifter is out March 14.

JUNG JAEIL – “MULTIPLE” (FROM MICKEY 17)
Bong Joon-ho’s long-awaited new film Mickey 17</> is out March 7 and the director has once again tapped composer Jung Jaeil to do the score. Here’s the first taste of that.

FALLFIFTYFEET – “PURGATORY BLUES”
West Virginia metalcore band fallfiftyfeet are definitely up to something. They kicked off the year with new single “Running from the Sky” and now they’ve put out another new song, “Purgatory Blues.” It’s heavy, chaotic, and catchy in equal measure, and it has us hoping they’re gearing up to announce a new album soon.

MATT EMBREE – “MISCELLIUM”
RX Bandits leader and The Sound of Animals Fighting guitarist Matt Embree is getting trippy on his upcoming solo album Orion, and here’s another blissed-out taste.

NELS CLINE’s COSENTRIK QUARTET – “SLIPPING INTO SOMETHING”
Nels Cline has shared a new single from the upcoming debut album by his new band Consentrik Quartet, and it’s a slow-building jazz excursion that takes a groovy turn once the full band kicks in.

GHOST BATH – “ROSE THORN NECKLACE”
Atmospheric black metallers Ghost Bath have announced a new album, Rose Thorn Necklace, due May 9 via Nuclear Blast. Here’s the harsh yet melancholic title track.

QUAVO – “TRAPPA RAPPA”
Quavo of Migos has released his first single of 2025, a trap-pop anthem called “Trappa Rappa.”

ATTENTION BIRD UTOPIA – “INFINITY INSIDE A SHOPPING CART”

Jazz greats Wadada Leo Smith and Vijay Iyer have announced their second duo album, Defiant Life, due in March via ECM Records. The first taste is the eerie, minimal, 10-minute closing track, and you can read more about the album here.
