So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
WEEZER – “SUPERMAN” (1992 GARAGE PRACTICE)
Weezer have an expanded 30th anniversary edition of Blue Album on the way with tons of bonus tracks, and one of those tracks is the only known recording of an early Weezer song called “Superman” that was made in their garage in 1992. It’s a riffy rocker and a very cool look into their early days.

THE BLACK KEYS – “STAY IN YOUR GRAVE” (ft. ALICE COOPER)
Just in time for Halloween, The Black Keys have teamed with shock rocker Alice Cooper for a creepy new song, co-written with Reigning Sound’s Greg Cartwright, that also comes with a vintage horror movie-inspired music video.

PLAY DATE (BOUNCING SOULS) – “ZOMBIE BOP”
Also in time for Halloween, Bouncing Souls singer Greg Attonito and his wife Shanti Wintergate’s children’s music duo Play Date have released “Zombie Bop.”

LADY GAGA – “DISEASE”
Lady Gaga is apparently gearing up for her seventh album, and if you’re hoping for a return to her ominous synthpop side, you might be in luck. “Disease” is very much cut from that cloth.

THE ALCHEMIST – “FERRARIS IN THE RAIN PART 2” (ft. SCHOOLBOY Q & FREDDIE GIBBS)
As if The Alchemist and ScHoolboy Q on a song together wasn’t an exciting enough of a pairing, they’ve now released a new version that brings in Freddie Gibbs, and his verse captures that classic Alchemist/Gibbs magic.

SUMMER WALKER – “HEART OF A WOMAN”
R&B singer Summer Walker will follow 2021’s great Still Over It with new album Finally Over It at some point in the hopefully-near future (release date TBA), and today she shared its first single, a syrupy, slow-paced song called “Heart Of A Woman.”

SABA & NO ID – “HOW TO IMPRESS GOD”
Chicago rapper Saba and legendary Chicago producer No ID have a collaborative album called From the Private Collection of Saba and No ID on the way. Release date is TBA, but he’s just released its latest single, and it’s a great one.

DISCLOSURE – “ARACHNIDS”
Disclosure revisit their underground rave vibes on new single “Arachnids.”

DMX – “FAVOR” (ft. KILLER MIKE, MARY MARY & ROYZNOYZ ORCHESTRA)
A posthumous DMX project called Let Us Pray: Chapter X is set to arrive on December 13 via Def Jam/ UMe. It finds Warryn Campbell adding a gospel-soul score to spoken word prayers that DMX recorded, and it features four songs with DMX and four instrumentals. Killer Mike, Mary Mary, and RoyzNoyz Orchestra appear on this first single, and other guests the album include Snoop Dogg, MC Lyte, LeCrae, Terrace Martin, and more.

WILLIE NELSON – “LOST CAUSE” (BECK COVER)
Willie Nelson’s new album Last Leaf on the Tree is out next week and he’s just shared his cover of Beck’s “Lost Cause” (which was originally on Sea Change).

MIYA FOLICK – “ALASKA”
“The song is me exploring the weight of my fear of losing my relationship, but also finding comfort in the fact that if I did, things would be okay.” Miya Folick says of her new single. “The line ‘I could lose you’ is a double entendre. When we translated it into Japanese for the cover art, we used the verb for ‘I am able to” and the verb for ‘It is possible [to lose you].’ This song is both a coming to terms with how much my relationship matters to me, and how much I value my relationship to myself. I would be so sad if I lost this person in my life, but it would be equally as sad if I lost myself.”

SAM AMIDON – “I’M ON MY JOURNEY HOME”
Sam Amidon will release new album Salt River on January 24. It will be his first for River Lea Records and the album was produced by Sam Gendel. “This album is a campfire, but the campfire is around Sam Gendel’s synthesizer,” says Amidon. “Or maybe it’s a journey through the corridors of my memory, if my memory was transplanted into Sam and Phil’s dreams.” Listen to the first single.

ORVILLE PECK – “HAPPY TRAILS”
Orville Peck has shared a new single which is not a cover of Roy Rogers’ signature song, but is a new orginal and a holiday single.

DENISON WITMER – “OLDER AND FREE” (PROD SUFJAN STEVENS)
Singer/songwriter Denison Witmer has released this new single that was produced by his friend and collaborator Sufjan Stevens, who also plays on it, and released via Asthmatic Kitty. “One of the benefits of getting older and knowing yourself is being able to seek out the things that reset you in times when things feel off balance,” said Witmer. “For me, alone time is very important. Nature is very important. Moving my body and getting lost in my thoughts has become a must – whether it be running or, in the case of this song, hiking. I wrote this song when I was solo camping for a night at French Creek State Park not far from my home in PA. During Covid lockdown, my wife and I realized that we would burn out in the responsibilities of our day-to-day life if we didn’t take time to ourselves. The melody and lyrics came to me as I was hiking the Lenape Trail back to my campsite. I have a little classical guitar that goes with me most places, and I wrote the song in completion that evening. I got so attached to the sound that the little guitar ended up being the instrument we recorded the basic tracks with.”

COROOK – “CRUMBS”
“I wrote ‘crumbs’ as a reflection on my inner critic and the critical parent from whom I inherited that voice,” says Nashville-based singer-songwriter corook. “It’s the first glimpse into the singer-songwriter side of my debut album. The most touching feedback I’ve received to the song is from parents today who say things like, ‘This is helping me become a better parent,’ or, ‘I hope my kids never feel this way’ It gives me hope for the next generation to grow up receiving the love they truly deserve. ‘crumbs’ also serves as the soundtrack for Episode 4 of my narrated video series, where I share about the people who truly love me – my chosen family. When I showed up to film, I was genuinely surprised by my friends, who had prepared a video listing all the reasons they love me. Needless to say, I’ve been crying about it ever since.”

ALEX ORANGE DRINK – “THE FUTURE’S A RIOT”
“This song was written and recorded exactly one year ago during my first week of treatment,” says Alex Levine of this new Alex Orange Drink song which chronicles the early stages of his cancer treatment. “It’s a celebration & appreciation of life conceived in the darkest moment. At a time where my own personal future was extremely uncertain, this song imagines our collective future with optimism, unity and a defiance for the terrifying status quo. This is the first release from the 50+ songs (5 albums) that were recorded through 35 days of radiation & chemotherapy. Thanks to the generosity and kindness of so many, I was able to live in the studio every day of treatment & tell my story through music. MADI DIAZ – “FOR MONTHS NOW (III)” FT. LIZZY MCALPINE
Madi Diaz says this new version of “For Months Now,” which was originally released in 2019, “reminds me that I can have so much love for someone and still need to walk away. Walking away is hard for me. I’m a relationship kind of person. I love sharing and I love building and I love creating WITH someone. Walking away is always the hardest part for me. I obsess and turn it over and I stay and I deny before finding the strength to do the hard part of leaving.” This new version features Lizzy McAlpine.

MANIC STREET PREACHERS – “HIDING IN PLAIN SIGHT”
“Hiding in Plain Sight” is the first-ever Manic Street Preachers single in their 30+ year history to feature lead vocals by bassist Nicky Wire. It’s from their upcoming 15th album Critical Thinking.

SADE – “YOUNG LION”
Sade Adu (of Sade) has shared her contribution to the upcoming Red Hot compilation TRAИƧA. “Young Lion,” a solo song written with Aaron Taylor Dean and Ben Travers, is a song for her trans son, Izaak, and is as gorgeous and transportive as you’d expect. “Trans people have always existed, often as spiritual healers and leaders,” she wrote on Instagram. “As global systems continue to fail, the journey of trans people serves as a blueprint of possibility. May this offer a glimpse of our collective liberation.”

LEIKELI47 – “450”
Brooklyn rapper Leikeli47 has announced her first new album since the Beauty trilogy, and she’s taking off the mask. Release date TBA but the first song is out now, and you can read more here.
