So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
NILÜFER YANYA – “MUTATIONS”
Says Nilüfer Yana of her new single: “‘Mutations’ deals with change brought about by circumstance. This is not the phoenix rising from the ashes but the subtle change that happens constantly as millions of tiny decisions and actions shape your being. It’s kind of like survival, for me. Less of a transformation and more something that’s born out of your environment and surroundings, that you need to do to survive. Mutation is just something you have to go through- you have to evolve.” My Method Actor hits September 13.

THE JESUS LIZARD – “MOTO(R)”
Chicago noise punk greats The Jesus Lizard are releasing their first album in 26 years in September and here’s your final appetizer before they dump the whole plate in your lap.

HINDS – “THE BED, THE ROOM, THE RAIN AND YOU”
There’s a little ’80s alternative in Hinds’ final single before their new album VIVA HINDS drops in September.

NADA SURF – “LOSING”
Nada Surf’s “Losing” was written by their friend and collaborator Louie Lino, who says the song was “originally written during a particularly down day as a list of all the things getting older robs from you. Friends lost, loves lost, time lost, but mostly, possibilities and how that makes you feel. But Matthews’s hopeful bridge brings back some perspective.” Nada Surf frontman Matthew Caws adds, “I love how the sadness of the frank stock-taking verses bursts and vanishes into ecstatic choruses, where disappearing is kind of glorious transcendence.” New album Moon Mirror is out September 13.

WILD PINK – “SPRINTER BRAIN”
Wild Pink have shared another dose of propulsive indie-heartland rock from Dulling The Horns.

GHOSTS OF GLACIERS – “LEVIATHAN”
Denver instrumental post-metallers Ghosts of Glaciers have announced their sophomore album, Eternal, and the first taste is the towering “Leviathan.”

ONSLOOW – “TAXI”
Norway indie/emo band Onsloow will release their new album Full Speed Anywhere Else, and here’s the dreamy, catchy new single “Taxi.”

HERIOT – “AT THE FORTRESS GATE”
UK metalcore futurists Heriot have shared another rager off their upcoming debut album Devoured by the Mouth of Hell.

MERCE LEMON – “WATCH ME DRIVE THEM DOGS WILD”
“This song is really the first time I collaborated with someone from the early stages of writing,” says Merce Lemon of the title track to her upcoming album Watch Me Drive Them Dogs Wild. “my friend Spencer Smith, who was playing keys in my band at the time, sent me a voice memo of a chord progression he had written. I had been toying with an idea for a song based on a story my friend had told me about Michael Hurley, but I hadn’t found a home for the lyrics. This song came to life singing over Spencer’s piano on loop until the melody settled in.”

GINGER ROOT – “ONLY YOU”
Ginger Root has shared another song from his upcoming album SHINBANGUMI (due 9/13 via Ghostly International), and this one takes inspiration from Japanese City Pop. He explains, “Even though Ginger Root has been so closely tied to City Pop I have never felt satisfied with my efforts to write a City Pop song. ‘Only You’ was my official attempt to explore what a Ginger Root City Pop track would sound like.”

A PLACE TO BURY STRANGERS – “YOU GOT ME”
Here’s the latest tinnitus-inducing earworm from A Place to Bury Strangers’ upcoming album Synthesizer.

CONFIDENCE MAN – “LET THEM BELLS RING”
This new balearic single from Aussie dance duo Confidence Man was recorded especially for their upcoming Fabric Mix which is out next week. They say: “We were really feeling ourselves when this one came together around about 3am. We wanted to get a little creepy, but like, in a hot way. Kinda what we do best. By the time it was finished we knew it was perfect for the fabric mix.”

TOPS – “SUNDAY MORNING” (MARGO GURYAN COVER)
Montreal band TOPS have shared their groovy, terrific contribution to Like Someone I Know: A Celebration of Margo Guryan.

FASHION CLUB FT. PERFUME GENIUS – “FORGET”
Fashion Club, who you may have seen opening for Protomartyr earlier this summer, has announced new album A Love You Cannot Shake that will be out October 25 via Felte Records. The album’s first single is this ecstatic ballad featuring Perfume Genius. “It’s trying to love a version of myself that I’ve spent so long trying to distance from,” says Pascal Stevenson who is Fashion Club. “But it’s also a recognition that if I drift too far away from the version of myself that I see as really flawed, I might forget the things about myself that I felt I needed to change.”

ODETTA HARTMAN – “GOOD SOCKS”
“The first release from my upcoming Restoration EP has been a back pocket anthem for years – performed in churches and clubs, sidewalks and schools, as a circle song sing-a-long shared with audiences around the world,” Odeta Hartman says. “In its nascent form, this little love song was simply strummed over two acoustic chords; the feel-good magic of simplicity with a sticky, happy hook. The concept for the Restoration EP was born: a return to a former flavor, grounded in a familiar faculty. With maestro Lorenzo Wolff at the helm, we prioritized strings over synths, acoustics over ableton, and live takes over digital tricks. Bridging the two-fold projects together, “Good Socks” begins with a found sound meditation that serves as an invitation to wonder ‘what makes you happy?'” The Restoration EP is out September 20 via Transgressive.

Long Island alt-rocky punks Family Dinner’s debut LP God Looks Out For Fools comes out this Friday and here’s another catchy song from it.

ELIAS RØNNENFELT (ICEAGE) – “NO ONE ELSE”
Iceage‘s Elias Rønnenfelt has announced Heavy Glory, his debut solo album, which will be out October 25 via Escho. (Rønnenfelt has released records as Marching Church, but this is his first under his own name.) It was Copenhagen and features contributions from Iceage’s Dan Kjær Nielsen, Danish punk legend (and Nicolas Winding Refn collaborator) Peter Peter, and singers Joanne Robertson and Fauzia.

CINDY – “ALL WEEKEND”
San Francisco band Cindy are back with a new EP, Swan Lake, that will be out October 4 via Tough Love. The band continue in their gentle, hushed way on the gorgeous first single “All Weekend” which you can check out via its video.

FIEVEL IS GLAUQUE – “AS ABOVE SO BELOW”
Zach Phillips and Ma Clément have announced new Fievel is Glauque album Rong Weicknes which will be out October 25 via Fat Possum. It’s their first for the label. The album was made as an octet, and this is the jazzy, psychedelic, flutetastic first single.
