So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Each week we review a handful of new albums (of all genres), round up even more new music that we’d call “indie,” and talk about what metal is coming out. We post music news, track premieres, and more all day. We update a playlist weekly of some of our current favorite tracks. Here’s a daily roundup with a bunch of interesting, newly released songs in one place.
JAMES BLAKE – “THROWN AROUND”
James Blake has dropped what seems to be a standalone single, and it’s a very good one that has some ’90s breakbeat vibes.

BEN SERETAN – “BEND”
Ben Seretan has shared a new single from his upcoming album Allora, and it’s a suspenseful, emotive indie rock song that makes for another promising taste.

ANOTHER MICHAEL – “HUB OF DREAMS”
Another Michael’s new album Pick Me Up, Turn Me Upside Down comes out this Friday (5/31) via Run For Cover, and its new single “Hub of Dreams” has some lovely harmonies that the band says were inspired by The Roches.

CAVALERA – “FROM THE PAST COMES THE STORMS”
Former Sepultura members Max and Iggor Cavalera will release their new Cavalera album Schizophrenia on June 21 via Nuclear Blast, and new single “From the Past Comes the Storms” is a death-thrash ripper that wouldn’t sound out of place next to classic Sepultura.

GIRL SCOUT – “I JUST NEEDED YOU TO KNOW”
Swedish band Girl Scout are back with their first new music of the year, propulsive rocker “I Just Needed You To Know.” The song “was birthed during a spontaneous jam session in the middle of rehearsing for tour,” vocalist/guitarist Emma Jansson says. “Starting with Viktor toying with the opening riff, almost the entire song was just the band playing in a room with the mics rolling. We wanted the raw energy of the song to remain, so not much has been done to it. The phrase ‘it is what it is’ is one that I hear a lot amongst the older generations. To me, it feels like a way to avoid acknowledging hard times or difficult feelings. It’s such a stifling phrase. What if that’s not enough? What if I want more than to grit my teeth and move on? I think there is a clear generational divide when it comes to the language surrounding mental health, and the willingness to understand the causes behind it.”

BODY MEAT – “NORTH SIDE”
Body Meat is gearing up to release his debut album Starchris on August 23 via Partisan, and here’s the experimental pop of third single “North Side.”

MARGAUX – “WHAT COULD I SAY?”
Ahead of teh release of her debut album Inside the Marble, Margaux has shared a final advance single, “What Could I Say?” “As I’m sure most can relate, I find it takes me quite some time to feel truly at ease around a new group of people… being a touring musician I am often thrown into these new social settings of people I don’t know that well but am suddenly in quite close quarters with,” she says. “It’s like you’re spending all your time together but isn’t it too soon to start asking questions about what your parents are like? But who wants to talk about fluff? ‘What Could I Say’ is about feeling socially anxious and unsure and how that can manifest as seeming reserved and closed off… a nifty feedback loop that feels a lot like the inside of a marble just swirling around meeting back up with itself.”

MT. HIRAETH – HOLY AGONY EP
Midwest emo band TRSH have some screamo vibes on their new Straw Chairs EP, and now they’ve also got another new EP out by their screamo side project Mt. Hiraeth. It’s pretty great stuff.

SNOOPER – “I THINK I’M FALLING IN LUV AGAIN” (DEVO COVER)
Ahead of their set at Punk Rock Bowling over the weekend, Snooper shared a new Devo cover.

ROMY – “ALWAYS FOREVER”
Built around an interpolation of Donna Lewis’ 1996 hit “I Love You Always Forever” and made with co-producer Fred again.., “Always Forever” comes with a choreography-filled video too.

MARIKA HACKMAN – “THE GIRL WHO FELL TO EARTH” (GAZ COOMBES)
Marika Hackman, who released Big Sigh earlier this year is back with this mellow, pretty cover of “The Girl Who Fell to Earth” by Supergrass frontman Gaz Coombes.

DIRTY THREE – “LOVE CHANGES EVERYTHING II”
Dirty Three’s new album Love Changes Everything is out in June and they’ve just shared the second song from the album, the languid “Love Changes Everything II.”

ONEDA – “SET IT OFF”
“Let go of doubt, control your destiny, keep firing shots until you hit,” British rapper OneDa says on her new single “Set it Off” againsta a ’90s drum n bass beat. “Go and set the world ablaze, you are limitless!”

ELIAS RØNNENFELT (ICEAGE) – “LIKE LOVERS DO”
Iceage frontman Elias Rønnenfelt has released his debut solo single under his own name. (He also released two albums under the name Marching Church in 2015 and 2016.) “Like Lovers Do” was co-produced Elias and Nis Bysted and features drummer Dan Kjær Nielsen. “Reminiscing sure do come at a cost,” he sings on this Dylan-esque rocker.

MAGDALENA BAY – “DEATH & ROMANCE”
Magdalena Bay signed to Mom + Pop and released their first music for their new label home, and you can read more about the track here.

BEAK> – “HUNGRY ARE WE”
A little bit of ’60s folk creeps into Beak>’s usual krautrock/prog/postpunk on “Hungry Are We,” one of the many highlights on the trio’s surprise-released fourth album.

SHARON VAN ETTEN – “EVERY TIME THE SUN COMES UP (ALTERNATE VERSION)”
Sharon Van Etten is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her fourth album, Are We There, and she announced a reissue and 7″ with two version of “Every Time The Sun Comes Up.”

POND – “SO LO”
It’s the latest single from Pond’s upcoming album Stung!

THE MENZINGERS – “GONE WEST”
The Menzingers have announced that, this Friday (5/31), they’ll release a deluxe edition of last year’s great Some Of It Was True with two bonus tracks, “Gone West” and “The Last One Killed Me.” The former is out now and you can read about it here.

PORCUPINE – “EUPHROSYNE”
Chicago band Porcupine have been making a chaotic blend of metal and hardcore that we’ve compared to the likes of Converge and Portrayal of Guilt across a series of EPs, splits, demos, and singles that date back to 2017, and now they’ve finally announced their debut album, All Is Vapor. New single “Euphrosyne” and two other album tracks are out now. Read more here.
